Ball Chop 2012 is a no go!

Vet just called and I nearly had a heart attack. Everything is OK but it nearly wasn't.

I didn't really get all the details but they started with the anesthesia and then he started to cough and was having trouble breathing and then got so worked up that the vomited and while doing so inhaled some into his lungs at which point his tongue turned blue and the vet was like, yeah, we're not doing this today.

He's fine and resting there until later when we can pick him up.

Is this something well known with pugs and anesthesia?

Yeah I mean it probably does have something to do with that but I don't really know. I hadn't heard anything about pugs not being great with anesthesia in general. Except I guess for Ling Ling my parents' pug who died under it but that was a heart thing not a breathing thing. I just want it to be 4 so I can go get him. Someone's gonna get extra treats tonight. Not like he doesn't get extra treats every night but, you know.

Lil man has a urinary tract infection (he was peeing blood :/) AND an ear infection. He's got meds now so hopefully he'll start feeling better soon. I just feel bad that I can't explain it to him. It must be uncomfortable and confusing.

(rude, mea culpa. duder's ear tubes are probably p tight, the drops will probably work (abx i assume). serious q: was he scratching or jabbing at his ear? kids do that, and pups are basically children in the using-your-words sense (terrible), so i'd be interested to know)

Yep - he was scratching at it like crazy last night which is what made me ask the vet to check it. I have heard that about babies how they'll poke or pull at their ears and that's what made me wonder about his tbh. They did give him ABX (shot for the UTI and drops for the ear) so hopefully he'll be a lot better soon.

babies (and all lower animals) really are the worst at relating their problems. you can't just poop your pants every time something goes wrong, this isn't mars

Two nights ago I noticed a couple drops of blood but I wasn't sure exactly where they were, er, coming from. Since I couldn't just ask him I got all investigative discovery up in here and put down paper towels hoping he'd remember to go there from when he was paper trained. He did and it was v obvious that it was in his urine. Apparently UTIs are pretty common in small dogs. What's is that rather than do expensive testing (UA and or x-rays to rule out stones) they're treating first since in 85% of dogs it is just a UTI and ABX will solve it. So he got a shot and his urine will be retested in 2 weeks. If at that point there's still blood (which I don't think there will be since there isn't even any this morning) then we'd go to x-rays.

Anyway, maybe that's not interesting but I just thought there whole approach sort of was and appreciated them not sending me immediately for $$ tests esp since he's acting totally fine and doesn't appear to be in any discomfort at all in that are. lol I really should have gone into medicine somehow. I love this stuff.

He's doing much better. Prob due to the hugs I gave him from TR. So the vet sent me this pic today from a couple weeks ago when they didn't go through with the ball chop and omg. He's doped up in his cage and looks so sad and cute it's ridic:
