Just getting around to downloading the demo now, the game doesn't come out in the US for a few more days. They're having the nat'l launch here in Chicago, though... Blanco will be on-hand for a FIFA tournament at Best Buy downtown (how's that for product/sponsor/superstar tie-ins) and the winner will get some kind of ginormous television.

PES10 Demo is some ancient draft of it. Guardian was claiming PES10 is better in terms of gameplay. I have Fifa now, got it free from work, but not played it yet.

played today...it's fucking hard. have hardly had a shot on target. let me know if anyone fancies a game, I'm localgarda on live...

I see what this is (Local Garda), Saturday, 17 October 2009 15:40 (fourteen years ago) link

I added you.

I've shunted it down to professional difficulty and stuck everything on semi-assisted except for manual crossing. It doesn't seem that much different, underhit passes aside; I guess the jump to full manual is the real gulf.

The headed set piece goals in this tend to look very good, when you manage to actually get one.

MPx4A, Monday, 19 October 2009 08:52 (fourteen years ago) link

I've played fifa some more this week-end, at international level, and I don't see the problem with scoring on crosses. of course it doesn't work everytime (and thank god !) but I've scored some pretty cool goals (headers or volleys).

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 19 October 2009 11:37 (fourteen years ago) link

I can't score from crosses at all : / but I'm enjoying the game much more now I've switched short passing and crossing back up to semi, with everything else on manual

anyone else tried dynamic at full height and zoomed right out? the only way to play singleplayer imo; I only ever used to play with the wide camera in PES or the tele cam at full height and zoom in FIFA 09 but dynamic is great, u really get to appreciate all the little animation touches.

coz (webinar), Monday, 19 October 2009 11:40 (fourteen years ago) link

oh yeah ? I haven't really tried other cameras yet. the dynamic is the one for the be a pro mode, right ?

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 19 October 2009 12:14 (fourteen years ago) link

Birmingham 3 - 0 Arsenal.

^just needed to tell the world, tbh.

DavidM, Monday, 19 October 2009 12:23 (fourteen years ago) link

I think pro mode is pro camera, which I hate. the frame rate is really low on that one. I use tele for that mode because dynamic is too zoomed in for tht mode imo

single player manager mode I use dynamic all the way

coz (webinar), Monday, 19 October 2009 14:14 (fourteen years ago) link

hum. I'll have a look at that...
the "normal" cam is alright, though.

AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 19 October 2009 14:24 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, it is good def; I just think the game looks better on dynamic. I thought PES2010 was a better looking game till I made the switch, now I'm not so sure

coz (webinar), Monday, 19 October 2009 14:40 (fourteen years ago) link

EVERYONE PUT YOUR CROSSING TO SEMI I CAN'T STOP SCORING HEADED GOALS NOW

coz (webinar), Monday, 19 October 2009 17:48 (fourteen years ago) link

what are the differences btw the different settings?

spiny doughboy (baaderonixx), Monday, 19 October 2009 19:21 (fourteen years ago) link

manual is full manual: you control the direction and power of passes, shots, crosses, long passes and through balls.

semi is somewhere in-between. assisted the computer is basically playing the game for you and you're a grotesque ugly manbaby

coz (webinar), Monday, 19 October 2009 23:49 (fourteen years ago) link

so I've tried the dynamic cam.
it does look better since you can see the players very well and it's more intense and more individual but you lose the more strategic approach since you only see a very small part of the pitch.
I'm not sure which cam I prefer...

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 09:09 (fourteen years ago) link

some of the text is infuriatingly small, kills my eyes.

so semi is the way to go cozen? I just played somebody with athletico and had about 30 shots on goal, should have win about 12-4 but lost 4-0. i was missing the most easy chances.

it's enjoyable alright but some things still v irritating eg the corners, they look and feel shit. nice passing moves tho, it's a good game for counter attacks.

another irritant is how hard it is to clear your lines, it seems whoever is on the attack is massively at an advantage all the time, as defenders keep passing the ball to stray returning attackers over and over.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 16:31 (fourteen years ago) link

i know. never, never try to pass when in your own penalty area.

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 17:03 (fourteen years ago) link

just press shoot to clear your lines, unless you have enough space to charge up a long pass

I have all manual, w/semi on short pass and crossing; play around to find what fits u best obv :)

why does nobody speak on the mic in head to heads, also i keep losing games where i have 20 shots on goal and pass it around them all day, by conceding two goals from two shitty errors. still yet to score a non rebound, which evokes pro ev of old.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 16:54 (fourteen years ago) link

also jesus christ people quitting when you go 2 up...so annoying

general rule of thumb, everyone else on the internet is a twat

is there an ilx league yet? i feel i am getting good at this now, apart from shit finishing.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 19:41 (fourteen years ago) link

I meant to set it up but then didn't : / feel free!

coz (webinar), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 20:51 (fourteen years ago) link

I made one.

Search abbreviation ilx

password is ilxor

I would invite people on that but there doesn't seem to be any easy way and you two are the only ones I have on my friends list anyway I think

if, Wednesday, 21 October 2009 21:23 (fourteen years ago) link

cool, thanx, will join later

coz (webinar), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 21:27 (fourteen years ago) link

you can invite players via the wilfully obscure 'player hub' back end, I'm sure, but only if you're a manager of the league

have joined anyway, taken sevilla

pineapple expressionist (webinar), Wednesday, 21 October 2009 23:54 (fourteen years ago) link

I've joined, but what does that mean?
Picked http://www.om.net/

Is there a way to turn replays off yet?

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 22 October 2009 02:58 (fourteen years ago) link

it means that when you're online other people can see that if they are browsing the league standings section and invite you to a league game

pineapple expressionist (webinar), Thursday, 22 October 2009 09:53 (fourteen years ago) link

joining now

I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 22 October 2009 18:53 (fourteen years ago) link

weird i can't find the league by searching for it

I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 22 October 2009 18:58 (fourteen years ago) link

I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 22 October 2009 18:59 (fourteen years ago) link

okay i've joined. let's play! (i denied your invite by mistake, Garda, maybe because you stole my team...)

or do we wait until we're a certain number of players?

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 22 October 2009 19:21 (fourteen years ago) link

we can play now

I'll be on after the celtic game to start my advance up the league!!!

pineapple expressionist (webinar), Thursday, 22 October 2009 19:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Good game Local Garda! Shame it was so laggy, not sure what the problem was.

if, Thursday, 22 October 2009 19:27 (fourteen years ago) link

i was playing if just now...lost 2-0! stupid messing for first goal but was fairly dour game.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 22 October 2009 19:28 (fourteen years ago) link

we're all european, right? fairly sure sonderangerbot is swedish or somesuch

pineapple expressionist (webinar), Thursday, 22 October 2009 19:31 (fourteen years ago) link

good game sonderangerbot! why can't we speak to each other while playing?

I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 22 October 2009 19:42 (fourteen years ago) link

you guys are on ps3 or 360 ? (sorry, it must have been mentionned upthread but, heh...)

AlXTC from Paris, Thursday, 22 October 2009 19:51 (fourteen years ago) link

good game indeed...! what the hell just happened? pretty sure i'm really not THAT bad. don't know about the headsets, had mine on but couldn't hear anything either.

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 22 October 2009 20:03 (fourteen years ago) link

we're on 360, alxtc, u?

pineapple expressionist (webinar), Thursday, 22 October 2009 20:05 (fourteen years ago) link

You definitely weren't that bad against me... thought you were going to get the equaliser late on before my kamikaze goalkeeper action saved it.

I was just looking at the standings and it seems to say I have no games left to play, I thought when I put 2 games in the league options it meant 2 against each opponent, not just 2 overall!

if, Thursday, 22 October 2009 20:10 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah sonderangerbot I think I just got kinda lucky, in first half it was close enough but most shots seemed to go in.

so annoying just now, had a classic game against a guy using real and I was barca. was 1-1 in 118th min of extra time and i scored and he turns it off. so against the spirit of the whole thing, esp after such a tight game.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 22 October 2009 20:12 (fourteen years ago) link

the 'community' on EA games/xbox live is pretty rancid tbf : /

pineapple expressionist (webinar), Thursday, 22 October 2009 20:13 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah tho last night i played a guy and he sent a message after saying "thanks for the game, well won", a rare ray of light. really starting to like this game btw...anyone else reckon the superstars are sort of hard to use? I guess a bit like old pro ev, if you think you're going to beat anyone with messi you're sort of wrong, and prob better off beating one man and passing it, if even that.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Thursday, 22 October 2009 20:19 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm in California. Would our games be impossibly laggy? You civilised European gentlemen can kick me out of the league if you want :(

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 22 October 2009 20:22 (fourteen years ago) link

I played dan m in chicago last year and it was fine; it's at least worth trying
