The thing I'm noticing in FIFA 10 is that there seems to be more little things that you can do & that the little things you do can make a bigger difference, but maybe it's just me? I tried out dynamic view, but it felt like it was too zoomed in - it made me feel uncomfortable (though I used it last year). I like how much of the game you can see with the default view, especially with the widescreen aspect ration, which makes a huge difference. Red cards seems easier to pick up, but maybe it's because I haven't quite gotten used to the controls yet after going back to PES 5 for the last month or so.

gg earlier sonderangerbot; fluked out a 1-0 win after a very even game

360 too but haven't tried the online yet.
as soon as I get there I'll look for the ilx people !

do they not have any user stats, for online gaming, like "how many times this player has quit half way through a game". they should.

they do, and you can filter your matchmaking by their 'did not finish' percentage

Ha, brilliant

Do homosexuals not play Madden?

My xbox isn't live but I'm hoping to resolve that soon and you can all whip my ass </ homo>.

I'm still finding shooting impossible to control even against noob level AI.

Not happy with the refereeing - far too many cheap free kicks being given.

Oof, good game again sonderangerbot. Definitely my hardest fought 1-0 so far, great defending.

if, it was a tight one for sure, walcott terrorized my poor little norwegian. that's the second in a row i've lost in the 90th minute or so, this game is truly unforgiving.

good game still! i actually thought you would get one considering my many defence clusterfucks when i was just passing the ball around in my own penalty area... i think i've given up winning this round.

sonderangerbot, Saturday, 24 October 2009 15:58 (fourteen years ago) link

Do I still have time to join this? I have been distracted by how surprisingly good Smackdown 2010 is. Also it doesn't constantly rain in that game.

I hate the results ticker at the bottom of the screen for regularly spoiling Match of the Day but it is almost worth it for the occasional Santigold 0 - 0 Portsmouth.

if, Sunday, 25 October 2009 18:48 (fourteen years ago) link

The computer can be weirdly hyper-aggressive. Just played a match where they won two red cards in the first 20 minutes. I've never played a game against the AI where that has ever happened, that I can remember. Should I be embarrassed I only won 6-0?

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 26 October 2009 05:28 (fourteen years ago) link

Finally played my first online ranked match, and it was great. Maybe I just got lucky? It felt so much more dynamic and interesting compared to the games I've been playing against the computer - much more intense. When my opponent scored ten minutes in I figured I was doomed by lack of experience, but I scored an equalizer shortly before the half, then scored a second goal at 90+ for the satisfying (and surprising) victory.

This Saturday and/or Sunday I'll definitely be on for some ILX league games.

Jeff LeVine, Thursday, 29 October 2009 01:31 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah I can't be bothered playing against cpu. Online is so much more exciting

spiny doughboy (baaderonixx), Thursday, 29 October 2009 06:50 (fourteen years ago) link

Has this second patch turned up on XBOX yet? What does it do? I will join whatever league is there when I get Internet at mah new flat.

keepers are shit when the ball is near their feet...they often fail to dive on it and someone hammers it in while standing about a foot from them

Ronan, Sunday, 1 November 2009 14:46 (fourteen years ago) link

Despite what they said, the stadium / crowd atmosphere seems pretty much exactly the same, yes?

three weeks pass...

I've always been a PES guy (the last several years exclusive to the Wii version), but this is on sale for $40 and I can get it for half that with some gift cards. Should I break down and give it a go? Are the tutorials decent or will I just flail and die like I did with the demo?

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 03:58 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't think there are any tutorials

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 04:56 (fourteen years ago) link

non-interactive video tutorials. But they are there.

The fucking menus in this game! Never noticed those tutorials before - they're not bad either.

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 07:50 (fourteen years ago) link

the tutorials are pretty cool.
I still love this game. And still don't understand people who complain about how it's a disaster because of its bugs (there are some but they don't annoy me much). I've also played the career mode a lot and although it's supposed to be horrible because of said bugs, I love it (and no it's not always raining and evening games !).

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 13:55 (fourteen years ago) link

EZ, I really don't think the game is terribly different from classic PES other than reversing the shot and lob buttons (which are reconfigurable anyways). I'd suggest it has caught up to the best years of PES. The final game and the demo are pretty much exactly the same though, so if you couldn't get into that... Yet, after five or ten games I'm sure anybody with even a passing knowledge of football will be able to grasp the surface play in FIFA and do decently. The key to really getting into the game is having "real life" friends to play against. Playing against the computer is fine, but it lacks a certain dynamism and excitement. Playing online seems likek it can kind of be a crap shoot, in that you have to sometimes deal with the stuff associated with playing random games against strangers 1 vs 1. We tried setting up an ILX league on 360, but have yet to get enough players to have that be really viable. Maybe in a few more years we will finally get there!

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 15:49 (fourteen years ago) link

p.s. 360 league, we should try to play some games this Saturday or Sunday

Jeff LeVine, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 15:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Picked it up because I just couldn't pass up the deal. I'll let you guys know what I think after some time with it. By the way, watching a few of those video tutorials were the kicker.

I think my trouble with the demo was coming to it after two years of only PES Wii. The mindset needed is so radically different I couldn't wrap my head around it. I think I'll be able to figure it out and hopefully won't get too frustrated with AI teammates; PES Wii really spoils the player in that regard.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 17:16 (fourteen years ago) link

My best and most ridiculous victory online ever:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/iforry72/IMG_0344.jpg

3-0 down at half time, 7-5 down with 5 mins of extra time left.

“That was not a football score, it was a hockey score…in training I often play matches of three against three and when the score reaches 5-4 I send the players back to the dressing room, because they are not defending properly”

blue_eyes chrono_trigger dirty engineer glasses (onimo), Wednesday, 16 December 2009 01:02 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm slowly getting a handle on this - really quite good, and the AI seems much better than in the demo. I do have a question though - is anyone playing the Be A Pro thing? I really love it in the NHL series, but I'm having trouble finding a camera that works well for it in FIFA. Any suggestions? And speaking of cameras, what are people using for general play? I'm not exactly happy with any of the defaults, and my tweaks don't seem to be helping.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 17 December 2009 13:48 (fourteen years ago) link

I seriously have the coolest wife ever. She got me this and NBA 2k10 for XMas.

Is there a running ILX league that I could join on PS3 or do I need to wait for the next go around?

two months pass...

so my brother got me this (on PS2, admittedly, he ain't that much of a pimp) and i tried to play it last night.

The last PES (on PS2, admittedly, I ain't that much of a pimp) is a steaming pile, but this was just fucking horrible. Hateful weightless feel, shots just go at random directions, passes go to random players, camera frequently lags behind the ball and there is slowdown (fucking SLOWDOWN people it's 2010 ffs) at corners/set plays.

Why the fuck can't EA make a decent football game? Why have Konami forgotten how to?

If PES on PS3 is that much of an improvement then I'll be investing in the Summer.
