Has it been confirmed that there's no touch? People are surprised there's no use of that in the trailer...

is this likely to be region locked?

i skipped both wiis but i think it may be time to get back into this crap

As I previously reported in my September 2nd post, Nintendo Switch is 100% region free.

The people whose leaks have been most accurate e.g. Emily Rogers have been saying that it will be region free, and Iwata said on a few occasions that they were thinking about it. This console has got to have some big dumb thing wrong with it tho so it could be that :/

i was also surprised that apparently there's no touch-capability.

i haven't had a nintendo console since the wii (which i attempted to mod and ended up bricking within 2 years), but i'm not sure this is going to be the one.

the whole gimmick where you can transform it into a handheld and go off to the williamsburg party and play videogames on the rooftop at the bbq - that's kinda cool in theory but i know i would never do something like that. when i walk my dog in the early morning, i like to just sit on the bench and pay attention to her, i don't want to resume my dragon quest at that moment. and after getting beaten down IRL 2v2 basketball underneath a bustling highway, i know my bros aren't going to want to play nba 2k18 with me. they'll probably be mad at me for being bad at basketball irl, 15 minutes earlier. i don't play games on public transport either. i'm just not a handheld person, so i feel like the main purpose of the system design isn't aimed toward me.

kind of raisin' an eyebrow at the cartridge thing, although maybe these days cartridges can handle resource-intensive games? either way, i guess it has to be a cartridge so that you can Switch(tm) your game into mobile mode so you can level up while you're eating brunch and windsurfing in the afternoon.

whoooa, that came out way more negative than i meant it to be, sorry. i'm sure this will be a cool system and i will be jealous of all people getting to play the nintendo 1st party franchise sequels, for real.

solid state storage is fast in a way optical media will never be, and I get the impression that the Japanese market wouldn't be about a download-only platform. Also yeah carrying around an optical drive would work about as well as a discman.

(a discman that needed to stream textures to the GPU without skipping.)

idk i think the portability is actually pretty interesting/compelling. the best thing about the Xbox one right now is how it integrates into the windows 10 ecosystem. i can play it on my pc in my office, on my laptop in bed, or on the TV directly from the Xbox in the usual way. this limited portability is pretty awesome, and extending the possibility to take the game with you anywhere is a logical extension and seems pretty cool. yeh I play handhelds mostly at home, in bed etc. playing an Atlus game while cycling is on TV is my jam!

It will have a multi-touch screen. That's semi-confirmed (again from Emily Rogers' so far 100% correct fact sheet)

xp there's a windows 10 app that lets you stream games which is basically, as you say, a remote desktop thing. supposedly you can also set up your home router to allow you to access your Xbox from anywhere with internet but i haven't tried this

yeah if you could just go into a hotel or a friend's apartment & hook this up to play on the tv, w/o anything complex, that would be terrific.

you've just changed my life. the biggest impediment to ps4 gaming is that my kids are always using the tv.

for some reason i didn't know you could remote play outside the vita, this is good info. @mordy, from my experience doing this on the Xbox it's an awesome feature of the current gen that i wouldn't give for anything. it's rad to know everyone is proceeding on the assumption that portability is a necessary feature

it works well for some games for sure, but if you need the r2/l2 buttons regularly it's kind of a chore ime

some games also seem to have developed better control schemes for working w vita than others so it may be a game by game basis kind of thing

but do i need the vita if i use this software? i think i'd prefer to play on my big macbook retina screen anyway

nah, macbook will likely work better for you if you're a laptop in bed kinda guy

On the PS4? Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can remote play over the internet if you're away from home. The PS4 has to be in standby with the 'wake for network activity' (or whatever it's called) enabled, so you can wake it with the remote play request.

So the list of commitments for 3rd party support is already awesome. I cannot wait to play a new DQ on this. And Terraria! I bet they'll have Terraria for this. I'm going to have to buy a headset thingy with the microphone and everything.

My daughter is going to be the perfect age for this when it comes out. Dudes. 2017 is going to be the best.

theyre saying the switch 2 is announced this week

would imagine it would launch with mario cart since the switch didnt even get a new one, maybe new mario 3d too since its been a while for that too, rumors about more support for big third party games

they made like 100 tracks for mario kart 8 it would be weird to start from scratch rather than just release a new Ultimate version that packs all of that in. but maybe

metroid prime 4 will obviously be the game that launches with it but is also on switch 1, like zelda last time around

them not making a followup to mario odyssey in 7 years is the only other really conspicuous one for a launch year game. they didn't hold back splatoon 3 or zelda so idk what else

and yeah this one will in theory be at least ps4 specs so could get ports of some of the big late ps4 games for the people who would be excited about like RDR2 or assassins creed valhalla on switch for some reason. i feel like steam deck has undercut the 'i cant believe thats running on a switch' feeling though, its normal now

they need a bigger game than metroid for launch, and theres no bigger game than mario kart baby

some have speculated that theyve been sitting on a new mario kart cause the old one just kept selling, guess they would need to upgrade the graphics if it was originally made for the switch, also theyd need to make it better and different than 8 deluxe which idk what thatd look like, and yeah they did just release a bunch of tracks for 8 which is kinda weird if youre planning on releasing a new one soon

metroid is surely "big" enough, but they would need to have something family friendly too, so mario kart 9 is as good a guess as any

xp they've outright said they will show their next console before the end of the current fiscal year so it's not rumors anymore

I'm sure they'll launch a flagship Mario game and Metroid Prime 4. Maybe... now hear me out, maybe they have a deal with Team Cherry to make Silksong an exclusive for a year after it launches on the Switch 2. Would be a massive coup!
