I recall a few other people expressing their admiration for VS, and it really was pretty good aside from an involuted storyline. The battle system was fairly innovative (or, provide counterexamples), but the strength of the game was its dialogue. Whoever put it out actually hired Renaissance scholars from the Europe, so instead of random and cringeworthy "thee's" and "thou's" (as in FFIX), the dialogue was actually literary.

So: best-researched video game ever?

i talked to one of the dudes who worked on the localization a while back, and he told me that they mostly just named stuff after, like, Bauhaus songs. still the best localization ever tho.

there's an area called Iron Maiden

btw the game is by the team that did ogre battle. there are no ogres in ogre battle. it's named after the queen song.

I may have been wrong about the naming things after cheesy metal and goth bands, but I stand by my assertion that the dialogue is smooth as ice.

No, it was either xenogears or final fantasy tactics I'm positive. it definitely wasn't anything with a number after it though.

ff6 is deservedly classic, but xenogears is better.

topic: i have not played vagrant story. i was somehow under the impression that it wasn't very good, but google is turning up a lot of high praise. i'll have to track it down sometime.
