This game is actually reminding me more of the bird's eye Zelda games than it is any of its nominal open world crafting RPG sistren.
I go wander around and run into random strangers who give me problems to solve, most of which involve taking down marks, not so much bringing back X number of artisanal whatever.

I started my first game on the 2nd hardest difficulty mode, which may turn out to be a mistake - all the named boss beasts are one-shotting me and my base's graveyard (btw I love the fact that you get to keep your tombstones as furniture) is a bit bigger than I'd like. Then again, I did only figure out that baconweed heals you after about 3 hours in.

It's great. I played thru once but didn't get quite hooked enough for a second go. Mobile support is A+

If I can't beat any of the quest marks tomorrow I'm going to start a new game and downgrade to the default difficulty level.
I love the exploration but am a little annoyed that I can't craft beyond a certain level, even though I've been finding lots of new stuff to harvest

the mobile controls do deserve serious respect. I'm playing on a 5S and having fun

the writing is so much fun. and the gameplay is so moment to moment nice. it sort of makes up for the way the patterns of combat become very samey after a while -- kite, dodge, attack, over and over. really works great in small doses, and works great when you explore and discover all sorts of new stuff. if you think of it as an overgrown indie arcader its amazing. if you think of it as a scaled down triple A rpg, not so much.

I just figured out the salvage / re-roll mechanic that lets you get better equipment, now that I'm in regular old Adventure mode and actually am allowed to make mistakes instead of being a one-shot wonder for basically every living thing bigger than half my size.

In some ways the simplification of the inventory and base building is responsible for the fact that you can't really do epic sessions with this game. The occasional respite from exploration and combat only lasts a blink of an eye, and then you're all done sorting and crafting and once more into the breach.

The straightforward arcade combat mechanics are really enjoyable imo, and I like feeling like I might have a chance up against mobs that are obviously out of my league at this point.

Took a long break, back into this again. JFC where the hell am I supposed to learn to make a fucking water balloon?

Also, pet Glutterfly is great at starting mob riots via splash damage. Thanks a lot, pal.

The fishing minigame knows what it is and seems like it tries to waste as little of your time as possible. I respect that. It also manages to feel more skill-based than the slot machine mechanics a lot of these games seem to use for fishing.

The different pet attack patterns are a lot of fun once you have more than two (and meet more than three different mobs). Pet Tartil isn't even juiced yet and I LOVE HIM

I'm finally through the Bawg - put this down for a couple weeks there - and cannot wait to get home and get my ass kicked in the tundra. So far I'm consistently dying 80 times per biome. Caution? What that?

I will always rep for games that let you grind up so the boss fights are almost easy. Then again compared to the epic level mobs everything is easy

Every penny and second that I've spent on this game has been thoroughly justified by encountering the Lyff family of mobs, specifically the Doueven Lyff Broh.

Finally beat this. Interestingly it feels like this avoids the Endgame Doldrums: Can They Be Solved? problem by having the NPCs and non-procedural content be kind of thin and infrequent from the get go, so when things start winding down (i.e. you only have 1 quest left) it doesn't feel that different from the rest of the game. I may go back and try to find enough depressurized larvae to finish getting my last two pets to epic, but I dunno.

The Megagong is so worth it.

Major new patch coming out soon I guess? will probably play through it again if there's enough new stuff. Watching the patch trailer made me miss the bawg.

I just started playing this last week and I've been completely hooked, would change my votes in the ILX game poll to make big space for this if I could. sprang break gave me a little window to push hard so I got into the Bawg in a couple of days, things are now coming a little more slowly but it seems like this is a great model for a "modern" RPG, where fetch quests involve crafting as well, instead of just delivering a note to Grandma or whatever.
