feel like if u like side scrolling mario which i dont really care abt then mario maker wld be the way to go as it gives u access to infinite side scrolling mario levels

im still hoping the fact that they didnt do bonus dlc levels for mario odyssey means they just rolled right on over to making another one like they did with galaxy

reasonable theory, i read the zelda 2 theyre making started out as a dlc and got too big

odyssey is an extremely decent game and excellent value. i’ve played the main mission through at least eight times and have racked up 250+ hours. people who neg it are missing the point that it’s just a very good game in its own right imo.

many of the the novel interactions in that game produce joy imo

it's a great system and i should play it more often! i honestly haven't played games much in a long while but i suddenly have a lot of free time so

add fire emblem to the tactical rpg section of the list that's a big one

That said, I'm not trying to get your expectations sky high. I don't think this year is going to match 2017, and Nintendo is going to continue relying on HD remasters -- but maybe in a bigger way that ever before

I've not played Odyssey yet, but presumably some of people's problems with it is that the natural comparison is the Mario Galaxy games, which are some of the best?

odyssey is more like 64 than like the galaxies, its got big worlds rather than lots of smaller courses. also why it's better imo

a lot of people prefer mario as obstacle course to mario as playground though

i prefer the obstacle course, it's true

(luckily odyssey gets to be both since there's lots of obstacle course sub-levels within the levels!)

i really like playground mario! but i worship the ground of obstacle mario.

this one is a pain in the ass. the city level was my favorite mostly b/c the size difference between mario and the human people never stopped being funny.

The 2d section in the city level is top 20 gaming moment for me

Mario Odyssey seems good for a while then it occurs to you that it is ultimately trash and you play through it to complete it but hell no you aren't 100%ing that shit, Mario vs Rabbids or whatever it's called was awesome but if you like that sort of thing surely Steamworld Heist is cheaper. Mario Maker is fucken vital tho.
Breath Of The Wild is a beautiful masterpiece and anyone who says otherwise I will stab in the face.
Hollow Knight also beautiful, I did have a certain boy do some of the boss fights for me cus I'm severely dyspraxic, which is why I didn't get too far in Celeste, as much as I loved it

i didn't like steamworld heist because the missions are procedurally generated so they're kinda samey and there's no sense of good encounter design

also mario and rabbids goes on deep sale all the time anyway

Difficulty levels aside, Cuphead, Hollow Knight and Ori are how you do Switch ports right. They're absolutely gorgeous and, by many accounts, are better optimized for this system than any others. If all games looked and played this good, I would buy all games. Thank goodness, then, that few games are this good. Personally tired of all the pixel-y games, though, however good, which is why I only finished Shovel Knight and didn't play its sequels, or why (aside from difficulty) I didn't really return to Celeste, great as both of those games objectively are.

fwiw my kids, who played a bit of Odyssey but have been watching me play Dark Souls 3, have warned me that Odyssey will seem really easy after that. Probably!
