this is... fine. you collect fruit/insects/fish for npcs and they give you rewards, and occasionally one will offer to visit you if you agree to get a load of furniture made for them. it's like a cut down edition of the proper games, set in a handful of unnecessarily tiny environments. i've been playing it for 2–3 hours a day since thursday but it's not really progressing in any meaningful way.

you really get the freemium vibe when things which normally take three minutes (getting furniture made) start to take 10 hours. other than that it feels completely nintendo, right down to the pointless super-slow dialogue bubbles you have to step through 500 times a day, and the inexplicable nature of the tasks (e.g. an npc asks you to find one peach, you pull one off the tree that's right next to them, they lose their shit with glee and give you a heap of rewards).
i really don't understand it being available in just one country. it's not like this is a beta test, and they must have a pretty good sense of server demand. we were day one for pokemon go too for some reason, but game-breaking server issues didn't stop them rolling it out to more countries.

Yeah this is a little disappointing. It takes the grindiest elements of the game and distills them so completely to their base essence that you're left thinking "why did I even like this game in the first place?"
Also the variety of bugs and fish seems ultra limited thus far. Will there ever be emperor beetles and sharks and things? Will it snow?
