FIRST EVER ILGAMES "Recommend me a game" THREAD EVER

Anyone else can feel free to hop on and post their criteria, but me first:
1. PS2
2. Fave games: Tony Hawk 4, THUG, Katamari Damacy, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Half Life, Jak & Daxter
3. Important criteria: a) Fluid controls. I get very easily frustrated with games where movement is sluggish, awkward, or seems sticky (E.g., Vice City was cool but I got really sick of running around slowly or trying to pilot the fucking helicopter). THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT.
b)I don't mind shoot 'em up games, but am a little squeamish about games where you're a soldier shooting other soldiers. If I'm shooting, I'd prefer to be shooting aliens or vampires or something.
c) I haven't played a bunch of RPGs but I don't think I like them. And no sports games please (except fake sports like skateboarding).
I realize this is really broad, but any help is appreciated.

the first ps2 Prince of Persia game?

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 30 September 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

I've looked at that, and it looks cool, but didn't everyone say it was over too fast and/or that the beginning was cool but it was kind of samey after that?

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 30 September 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

try renting thru gamefly

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 30 September 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Should I just wait another month for Resident Evil 4 to come out on PS2?

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 30 September 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

Why not try both?

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 30 September 2005 18:03 (twenty years ago)

I strongly recommend God of War. I just rented it and despite the fact that I don't usually go for dark, overly serious games, it is so very good.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 30 September 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

Capcom Classics Collection

Psychonauts

Sonic Mega Collection Plus

Alien Hominid

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal

of course I haven't played shit lately besides We Love Katamari so I'm basically reading you my PS2 wishlist for after I finish grad school and they stop making movies and there's no more baseball or football going on.

TOMBOT, Friday, 30 September 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, Psychonauts! I forgot to look for that one.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 30 September 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

dude!! UP YOUR ARSENAL SO GOOD SO GOOD.

Big ups to the underappreciated Beyond Good and Evil:

psychonauts, psychonauts, psychonauts, psychonauts and psychonauts.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Saturday, 1 October 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

2nding beyond good and evil. bonus is that you can get it cheap because it was so underappreciated. i wonder if it will ever get picked up for a sequel (i gather it was planned, but fell through)

i wonder if it will ever get picked up for a sequel (i gather it was planned, but fell through)

I think the team is working on some movie license. I can't remember which movie it's for, though.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 1 October 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Beyond Good & Evil and Psychonauts are both essential.

Also, let me recommend the Tron 2.0 first person shooters. You seem to be fairly interested in first person shooters as well as highly stylized games, you must play this. It's one of the best FPS games i've ever played and the storyline is incredible.

nutrasweet glider, Sunday, 2 October 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I can't remember which movie it's for, though.

and haven't we all wanted to be Adrien Brody at some point in our gaming lives?

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Sunday, 2 October 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

ok, i'm playing Tron 2.0 right now. This IS fun! The fact that they licensed the entire wendy carlos soundtrack makes it even better!

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

I liked tron 2.0

jeffrey (johnson), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

Ico is an essential game for the PS2 that you might like. A little slow for some, but definitely fluid controls.

I played BG&E the other night on the PC for a little bit. Yeah, it seems good.

mooterhead, Tuesday, 4 October 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

That first Prince of Persia is short, it's true, but I have trouble thinking of other games that have made me that happy, even when given much longer to do it.

Beyond that I can't help; my favorite games tend to depend on slow, awkward movement for atmosphere (Silent Hill 2, Fatal Frame...)

SFF (jjrj), Saturday, 8 October 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

have you tried Dark Cloud 2?

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

three months pass...
1. PS2
2. Old school Atari ST/Amiga gamer desperate to re-live former glories.
3. Generally like platformers (Jet Set Willy-Super Mario World-Ratchet & Clank), "soccer" games (ex-FIFA now ISS), espionage (Hostages, Syphon Filter) and strategy (Sims, Sim City)
4. Games I miss - Police Quest, Larry, Double Dragon, Monkey Island.

I basically want 1) something in an urban environment that is different enough from the GTA games that I won't bore of it 2)a button mashing beat em up (but not in a Tekken-style arena, sidescrollers and larger environments preferred) 3)something cute with primary colors where you can bounce off of walls and defy gravity and even the bad guys are sorta cuddly 4) MORE sierra games!

adamrl (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:26 (twenty years ago)

I own:

The last three GTAs, Deus Ex, Syphon Filter 2, First Katamari, Super Monkey Ball, Prince of Persia, Ratchet & Clank 1&2, Winning Eleven 8, Spiderman(first one), Wolverine's Revenge, Sims, Wipeout, Hot Shots Fore!, and other stuff.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:29 (twenty years ago)

Actually I also want

1. A good racing game - the straight petrol ehad stuff is kind of boring, though. Wipeout is fun!
2. A GOOD comic-book tie in (yeah I know).
3. Other good sports games?

adamrl (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:30 (twenty years ago)

With the sports game thing, be warned - I am a British.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:30 (twenty years ago)

Well, I mean, second Katamari, obviously. And Alien Hominid. And God of War, for sure.

But I really can't recommend Guitar Hero enough, people.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:31 (twenty years ago)

NO RPGS!

(might make an exception for the X-Men games if they are good)

xp

adamrl (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:31 (twenty years ago)

Do I REALLY need another Katamari game?

adamrl (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:32 (twenty years ago)

1. A good racing game - the straight petrol ehad stuff is kind of boring, though. Wipeout is fun!

Burnout!

2. A GOOD comic-book tie in (yeah I know).

Second Spiderman game is pretty good, actually.

3. Other good sports games?

See, I personally don't like soccer at all, but I love Winning Eleven. Which is why I would think that anyone could enjoy Madden football or NBA 2k6. They're just really well made games, irrespective of sport allegiances. This is exactly why I wouldn't recommend any baseball game to anyone, as you have to be a baseball fan to derive even the smallest amount of enjoyment from them.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:34 (twenty years ago)

Do I REALLY need another Katamari game?

This is why I didn't buy it for a while, and then I caved and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It depends if you loved the first one or not, though.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:34 (twenty years ago)

NO RPGS! (might make an exception for the X-Men games if they are good)

My pal who writes for EGM loves them, but I don't know. They're RPGS! UGH.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:35 (twenty years ago)

I could probably enjoy an NBA game, I think.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:37 (twenty years ago)

But then half of the fun with sports games for me is all the fanboy stuff like stats and player names and stuff - I know nothing about basketball. I know that I probably wouldn't want to be the Warriors.

adamrl (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:38 (twenty years ago)

Actually, I am also a Mac owner - any games I should get for my Powerbook? Or do people not do that anymore? I was tempted by the new Sims and Sim City games...

adamrl (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:39 (twenty years ago)

But then half of the fun with sports games for me is all the fanboy stuff like stats and player names and stuff - I know nothing about basketball. I know that I probably wouldn't want to be the Warriors.

Well, the stat system is really solid in NBA2k6, for what it's worth. The whole game is really well done. If you do get an NBA game, get that one.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:40 (twenty years ago)

5 out of 5 stars
Play it with your shirt off., July 9, 2005

Reviewer: B. Convery (US) - See all my reviews

That's what I've started doing. It's a game that drips testosterone from marble columns of Athens to (but not quenching) the infernals of Hades. There's not much happy in Krato's Ancient Greece. Well, strike that. Maybe Aries is happy because he's ripping Athens to shreds. Fires, thunderstorms, Aries' steel clanging, while the helpless humans fire arrows at the God of War unleashed. Pah! Human Arrows. It's like trying to put out Hades' flames by blowing bubbles.

There is so much amazing about God of War. First, I'll talk about thought. There's folly about. That's the theme of Greek Mythology, ALWAYS. Folly between the gods and "their human playthings". However, Greek gods are flawed just like the human pawns. For the gods of Olympus err clumbsiness then clean-up their mistakes after. What folly! God of War WORKS as Greek Mythology. I love the concept of "destroying a god" through Pandora's Box. Opening Pandora's Box, the colloquialism, is to unleash a maelstrom of unpredictable chaotic events. Is that what happens when a god is killed? Absolutely. This is what I mean regarding thought. There are philosphical gems that glisten in Ancient Greece.

Second, the gameplay and controls are extremely tight. You'll use every button on the contoller when battling. You'll use every move. Rolling/evasion, blocking, comboes that can rise to triple digit numbers (my highest is 124) are necessary to avoid becoming burger to Aries' black-hearted baddies. This said, tight controls are necessary, work perfect, creating some ridiculously fast paced/intense action.

Third, is balance. Now some friends say I smoke too much over drinking, but I understand balance is required. God of War balances action and puzzle solving, and not once do the scales dip to one side. Sure, the game gets difficult and frustrating the further you take Kratos, but never is there too much fighting, too much puzzle-solving, or too much drinking. Wah? The balance is great.

Did I mention level design? No? It's brilliant. Sometimes it reminds me of Prince of Persia:SOT and sometimes Tomb Raider. Environments are very fluid, from the details of statues and Greek architecture, to Kratos' ugly reflection on a highly polished floor? I'd hate to be the sap who keeps those Greek floors so spickitty span clean. I wonder what that dude makes an hour. Benefits are worth it, especially if you get to glimpse the Oracle of Athens in her sheer top. Huh? Great level design.

To add one more edge on Kratos already sharp blades, God of War has a wonderful soundtrack. The music is ambiant sometimes, orchestral at others. Should I say it again? Ok. Balanced soundtrack.

I'll wrap it up. My wife came down when I was playing and she said, "Honey, why do you have your shirt off?" I looked at her. My eyes were bloodshot but not from God of War. I replied, "Kratos doesn't wear a shirt. If he doesn't, I don't."

Was this review helpful to you? YesNo (Report this)

adamrl (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 22:56 (twenty years ago)

My perfect game would be Indiana Jones...in Europe.

Kratos doesn't wear a shirt. If he doesn't, I don't. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 23:04 (twenty years ago)

2. A GOOD comic-book tie in (yeah I know).

X-MEN LEGENDS

Don't know about II but even if it's the exact same game, it will be good.

Dan (Fun Fun Fun) Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 23:11 (twenty years ago)

But...it's an RPG.

Is it set in Europe at all?

Kratos doesn't wear a shirt. If he doesn't, I don't. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 23:12 (twenty years ago)

X-Men Legends isn't an RPG, it's a beat-'em-up. And...I didn't like it. :(

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 23:14 (twenty years ago)

I don't think any of it is set in Europe, I only got about a third of the way through it before I became re-obsessed with WoW. As Jordan says, it is really not an RPG; there is a stat-fiddling component that you can pretty much relegate entirely to the game if you don't care about which powers your X-Men level up in.

Dan (Jordan Hates Fun!) Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 23:18 (twenty years ago)

Do people still play Tomb Raider?

What about this Colossus thing?

Kratos doesn't wear a shirt. If he doesn't, I don't. (in Europe) (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 23:22 (twenty years ago)

PLAY THE COLOSSUS THING

Kratos doesn't wear a shirt. If he doesn't, I don't. (in Europe) (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 23:49 (twenty years ago)

I usually go to one of the many Gamestops and EB Games establishments, such as on 51st/Broadway, Hollis/40th, Durant/Telegraph, and El Cerrito Plaza. Best Buy is good for popular new releases.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 00:22 (twenty years ago)

Also, I usually just rent anything that (a) costs over 20$ and (b) is 10-hours long or less.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 00:23 (twenty years ago)

fake sports like skateboarding.

WHAT THE FUCK!?!

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 19:15 (twenty years ago)

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 20:31 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
I need a GBA game! Of all the games out there, what are good ones?

I'd quite like an action RPG type thing, like Gargoyle's Quest, but anything will do. I'd like something that'll last a long time, but will keep my interest when I find myself stuck with nothing to do except Gameboy.

Are you all going to recommend Fire Emblem?

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 13:01 (twenty years ago)

yes!

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 5 March 2006 20:10 (twenty years ago)

(though it ain't exactly action)

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 5 March 2006 20:11 (twenty years ago)

Nah, I gathered that. I think I know what to expect with Fire Emblem, and it looks very good. I take it I should play the first before the second, right?

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Sunday, 5 March 2006 20:56 (twenty years ago)

metroid fusion

älänbänänä (alanbanana), Sunday, 5 March 2006 21:19 (twenty years ago)

no wait, I got the metroids mixed up. Zero Mission is the awesome one.

älänbänänä (alanbanana), Sunday, 5 March 2006 21:19 (twenty years ago)

melton: i've never played the first. but... have you played advance wars? i'd recommend AW1 or 2 before fire emblem

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 5 March 2006 22:08 (twenty years ago)

I've only played the multiplayer on the GBA ones actually, so they could be an idea, but I still haven't finished Dual Strike so the step back might be a little confusing and stop me finishing either of them.

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 6 March 2006 10:57 (twenty years ago)

AW1 and 2 are near-total joys, but I haven't played dual strike.

I haven't played FE even though I have it now - from reviews I read it doesn't seem like they changed enough to mean you shld play the first one first but I wouldn't know really.

You could get mario kart!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 6 March 2006 12:22 (twenty years ago)

Mario Kart's a good'un, the GBA tracks on the DS version are mostly my favourites. I was thinking last night maybe I should do the Zeldas or something. I used to have the gold Zelda SP with Minish Cap, but was an idiot and sold it when I was broke. I'll get another one some time when I can afford it. Minish Cap was good though, so the others might be an idea.

What about Tales of Phantasia which is just coming out? Being in the UK, I've never played a Tales game (though keep meaning to get Symphonia).

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 6 March 2006 12:35 (twenty years ago)

T o Symphonia is hellish. Avoid.

adam (adam), Monday, 6 March 2006 14:15 (twenty years ago)

the 'Tony Hawk' thing and the 'fluid controls' thing makes me think you might like the SSX games. see other thread (where i think the consensus was the SSX Tricky was the favourite). geat sense of speed and you can pretty much ignore the objectives and take your time to explore.

(actually, your list of fave games is a lot like mine would be.)

koogs (koogs), Monday, 6 March 2006 16:38 (twenty years ago)

i should probably get minish cap already huh

fuck... ZELDA DS NOW!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 6 March 2006 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission are both awesome. So is that one Castlevania I played, Aria of Sorrow I think.

I'm still finishing up FFIV, the moon is pretty f'n hard actually.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 6 March 2006 18:01 (twenty years ago)

minish cap was great!

i just finished aria of sorrow. it was great too!

neither of these are especially long, but you should get them anyway.

inert false cat (sleep), Monday, 6 March 2006 18:54 (twenty years ago)

YES, Aria of Sorrow is EXACTLY the sort of thing I was thinking of. Should be quite cheap now too, right?

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:56 (twenty years ago)

(pre-owned, obv)

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 6 March 2006 19:56 (twenty years ago)

There's also this, but I haven't played the other Castlevania game that it comes with.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 6 March 2006 20:04 (twenty years ago)

yeah, it looks like you can get aos for around $20 on ebay in the us. supposedly all the gba castlevanias are really good, so if you can find that doublepack jordan linked it's probably worth it.

inert false cat (sleep), Monday, 6 March 2006 21:06 (twenty years ago)

I, too, am looking for new games to play. Since I jsut quite my 40h/week addiction to WoW, I have lots of time, and I've got a PS2, GBA and a decent PC. I don't, however, have much moeny, so games I can buy used for like ten or twenty bucks would be ideal. I love TRPGs, and I love Shmups, but pretty much anything that you can find cheap, I've got (Gradius V, R-Type Final, Stella Deus, Hoshigami, FFTA, Fire Emblem 1/2, Ogre Battle GBA, and a bunch of copied PS1 games like R-Type Delta, Einhander, Salamander/Lifeforce Pack, Raystorm/Crisis...). I might be looking for a straight-up RPG to play becuase I'm feeling kind of lazy, button-pushing wise. I'd love to play DQ8 but I just can't afford that insane-o sixty dollar new game pricetag (I'm in Canada). PS1, SNES, and other emu-able machines are good too, because you can get those games for like 100% off on the internet I hear.

Will M. (Will M.), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 00:16 (twenty years ago)

six months pass...
Hello.

PS2, yes.

I = total n00b, was only ever a casual gamer at most, and thus am not all that interested in games that are very hard, 'cos really I'll just give up and feast on the latest 20's pop recordings comp/DC Showcase/Howard Hawks movie instead.

Over the years, I've loved Sonic (my main gaming obsession, I'd say I own them all but I'm sure there's plenty of obscure ones I don't, anyway, Sonic 1 and 2 for the Mega Drive and Sonic Adventure 1 for the Dreamcast are my faves), "Dr.Robotnik's Mean Bean Machines", "Warcraft II", "Full Throttle" (but didn't get very far at all), "Barrack", "Shenmue 2" (BIG fan of this), "The Sims 2" and "We Love Katamari".

WANT: Knights, pirates, goblins, orcs and suchlike; super-heroes; cuddly shit and quirky shit; cheap eastern mysticism; cowboys; WTF; RPGS that aren't that hard; basically anything that resembles the games mentioned above would be cool to know about.

DO NOT WANT: "Futuristic urban dystopias"; buckets of blood; beat 'em ups; shoot 'em ups; sports games (including, nay, especially car racing games); games with a strong misanthropic streak (that's what literature is for); I'm tolerant of the anime style but if it's too extreme it does get on my nerves; cool dudes with big fucking guns; games too close to reality (i.e. I do not want to be a gangbanger, mafia don or solider); spaceships shooting at each other.

Basically, I'm a fag. Reccomend me games please.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Friday, 6 October 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

Okami and Lego Star Wars II. Guitar Hero. Psychonauts.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 6 October 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and Shadow of the Colossus / Ico.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 6 October 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

The LEGO Star Wars games are a definite thumbs up, I am going to have to also strongly recommend Dragon Quest 8 as it can be played casually and if you do pick it up it'll be like the only game you get this year.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 6 October 2006 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

"only game you'll NEED" sorry

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 6 October 2006 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

and the Katamari games

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 6 October 2006 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

do i need to go ahead and buy okami? Cause I think i'm gonna.

I'm realizing that Psychonauts, Shadow of the Colossus, Katamari and God of War are all somehow similar and equally awesome.

Singstar!

teh_kit (g-kit), Saturday, 7 October 2006 07:32 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
REPORTING BACK!

"Lego Star Wars" is a lot of fun, but not being able to save until you've completed a level is not good. Is this still common procedure?

"Singstar" must be the best party game ever. Sadly my friends and I have yet to get it together to actually HAVE a party, so instead I've been playing on my own, which I realise makes me a very major saddo, but it's fun! It's funny that the game doesn't care about lyrics, so you can stutter your way through a song and if you're in tune it doesn't really matter. Also the attempts at judging rapping are some bullshit, I let the Eric B & Rakim track play while I chatted with a friend, and it really didn't matter, as long as there were audible sounds (even laughter!) the rap-o-meter thought I was doing "okay!"

Whereforth "Singstar: The Fall" and "Singstar: Brak"?

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Saturday, 21 October 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

Get CS:Source ans WoW and put away your silly PS2. I promise you'll never look back.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Saturday, 21 October 2006 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

Gaming on my PC is right out, I spend enough time in front of it as it is. The PS2's in the living room - bigger screen, couch, more room, better deployment for multiplayer fun, larger windows and nice things to look at when eyes get red. Also I like hitting on the control pad buttons, don't wanna do the keyboard thing.

(Yes, I realise I could move my comp to the living room, buy a bigger screen and get some sort of joystick for it. But I've mentioned already I'm a casual gamer, so that's really far too much effort to go to for gaming.)

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Sunday, 22 October 2006 00:07 (nineteen years ago)

Dear ILG,

The power cord on my GBA has been frayed by cats, and so it recharges unreliably and never seems to get fully charged. This seems like a good excuse to get a DS.

I love: Super Mario games (1, 3, Mario/Luigi Superstar, Wario 4, Yoshi's Island, SML, 2, in that order), Pokemon (I've completed five of them a total of thirty or more times), Warioware, sidescrollers in general.

I will never, ever, ever own a console because I work at home and I know the limits of my willpower. When I play them at friends', I can play the Soulblade series and Grand Theft Auto for days. Katamari looks fucking awesome but the last time I tried to rent it, it was defective.

I don't like games with a steep learning curve because if I'm not on vacation, I don't make time to play them for more than an hour at a time, usually while watching TV.

Is the DS right for me? The PSP? Or should I just fix the GBA?

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 22 October 2006 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

There's probably a "should I buy a DS?" thread ... well, recommend me DS games I should get if I decide to get a DS.

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 22 October 2006 13:18 (nineteen years ago)

DS? PSP? GBA? Get a real console or better still a PC!

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Sunday, 22 October 2006 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

Like I said, absolutely no chance. I work here!

Tep (ktepi), Sunday, 22 October 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

Darramouss clearly = gaming rockist! :)

The PS2's in the living room - bigger screen, couch, more room, better deployment for multiplayer fun, larger windows and nice things to look at when eyes get red.

was having a similar discussion this weekend with a fellow gaming chum. He's just moved out of my house and in with his girlfriend which means he's lost all access to my consoles and just has his PC.

Simply put, he now has to play GTA on the PC and he says its just not the same without the sofa and general comfort of the lounge-play.

Anyway my contribution to this thread. what is this NFS Carbon all about innit? Could it be recommended to a NFS fan, tho I do hope its not just another 'underground' variant.

Is the DS right for me? The PSP? Or should I just fix the GBA?

Get the DS lite. The Nintendo DS thread is a pretty decent listing of games to consider. Pokemon Dungeon Rescue just came out, I think, and there's DQ Rocket Slime and tons of other stuff I don't have the time to really get into.

If you get a PSP, it means you hate baby seals and yourself.

two years pass...

Got $10 Amazon credit that expires end of the month. Either PS3 or Wii, older games definitely OK because right now I only own Batman: AA and Wii Fit, so MGS4 would be my default choice. Would prefer non-sports, non-FPS (or any first-person POV) game.

Are you only spending $10?

I think the upper range of what I want to spend is $30-$40 (after factoring in the $10 credit).

Super Mario Galaxy? Resident Evil 4 for the Wii? Little Big Planet? Prototype? Warioware?

To be honest, with such vague requirements, you'd be better off just going to the IGN review archive and seeing what's received high ratings in the past.

Poly, would you really recommend Prototype over almost any other PS3 game? I really like very bloody sandbox games but by the time it came out I was bored and annoyed with Infamous so I didn't bother.

I can't equate it to PS3 games because I only have a 360 and have only played a few PS3 games at friends' houses, but I found Infamous boring and annoying and totally love love love Prototype. Prototype's biggest drawbacks are that the storyline missions are really kind of boring. Kill 5 of this specific kind of enemy, usually. But the core gameplay and movement is incredibly fun for me. The amount of mayhem that you can cause is really kind of spectacular.
