Freecell?

Leeeeeeeee (Leee), Sunday, 18 September 2005 01:32 (eighteen years ago) link

On a Mac?

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 18 September 2005 04:22 (eighteen years ago) link

For a while I was really into Tintin Yahtzee, even though it wasn't technically fun.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 18 September 2005 04:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I spent all that time downloading Sims 2 and it's super draggy and looks kinda boring. I think I might regain that 2 gig of harddrive space! But is Civ3 worth playing? I did love Civ2.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 18 September 2005 04:24 (eighteen years ago) link

Sims 2 is great, but really crashy. I can't play Veronaville on my iMac without it crashing within 5 minutes.

Laura H. (laurah), Sunday, 18 September 2005 09:13 (eighteen years ago) link

yahtzee, people? we can do better.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 18 September 2005 14:19 (eighteen years ago) link

Fallout 2 is fairly badass, and Warcraft III is pretty good as well.

John Justen (johnjusten), Sunday, 18 September 2005 16:43 (eighteen years ago) link

I have no mac but would like to 2nd the goodness that is fallout 2.

jeffrey (johnson), Sunday, 18 September 2005 16:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Majesty if your laptop runs Classic emulation. Freedom Force. Neverwinter Nights plus the two expansions and various user made mods are worth playing if you like rpgs. Space Tripper is one of the best shmups I've played.

Jeremy (Jeremy), Sunday, 18 September 2005 18:09 (eighteen years ago) link

i was rockin' neverwinter nights for a while; i never really LOVED it but it was certainly entertaining.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 18 September 2005 18:45 (eighteen years ago) link

is there a version of grim fandango for the mac?

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 18 September 2005 19:44 (eighteen years ago) link

Does Fool's Errand still run?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Sunday, 18 September 2005 23:30 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah Cliff Johnson released Fool's Errand, At the Carnival and 3 in Three as freeware on his website. They all run fine in Classic mode.

Kingfish!

Some mac ones there, and lots of other brilliant games. See Umihara Kawase Shun (or something along those lines) for the playstation, it's phenomenal. Bahamut Lagoon on the snes is there too which, from the couple of hours I played, is also excellent.

melton mowbray (adr), Friday, 7 October 2005 20:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Try some of the games at http://shinh.skr.jp/osxbin/

If you're having trouble picking, check out psy-no and Torus Trooper on that page.

(i need classic for most of these though right?)

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 9 October 2005 04:55 (eighteen years ago) link

yea, i think there's a classic emulator... vMac?

Jonothong Williamsmang (ex machina), Sunday, 9 October 2005 15:32 (eighteen years ago) link

btw dude... wesnoth=awesome!! i was a little wary for some reason but i really really like it. i guess i thought it was going to be a more straightforward rpg? which i don't neccessarily have the patience for right now--all the talking to villagers and stuff. but this seems like a really good cross between an rpg and a strategy game.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 9 October 2005 18:27 (eighteen years ago) link

JW do you know where i could get a ROM so's i can run vmac?

I am considering shelling out for Plants v Zombies. So much polish.

I have a pirated copy of Diablo II but my video driver doesn't support 256 colors :(((

Is there a free option of something like Joy2Key for Mac? I might get Braid but would much rather use my gamepad - all the solutions I've found are shareware programs.

Nhex, Friday, 22 May 2009 20:13 (fourteen years ago) link

Right, so there's Braid, which I haven't played, and Windosill, which I've played one level of and is AWESOME

death from abroad (lukas), Sunday, 7 June 2009 03:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Windosill was pretty cool, but like The Path (which demo/prologue was released pretty recently) I'm still feeling unsure if I actually want to pay for these purely artistic games. Yeah, I know, in Windosill's case it's the price of a cup of coffee, but still... Braid seems to be a sort of balance, the demo sold me, and I'll probably get it at some point.

just downloaded Halo which seems to work fine - thinking about picking up CoD4 but it seems the single player is only 10 hours long it looks like, maybe good for a plane ride

also picked up Myth at an estate sale for $1, hope I don't need to run OS9 emulation software or whatever to run it

Anyone recommend those Penumbra games? Only $5 till the end of the day.

Already kind of blown through my holiday gaming budget but two sales of note - Machinarium + Samarost 2 for $10 until Xmas:

http://machinarium.net/blog/2009/12/16/amanita-design-christmas-pack-machinarium-samorost2-for-10-60-off/

And Braid got something of a stealth price drop to $10 (about time):

whoa hey sorry to dredge up these 6y.o. posts but how do you get Fallout and Fallout 2 for Mac?! I need to play them so I can be super-elitist about FO3/NV

i've been impressed with wineskin wrappers lately; i was able to install deus ex, oblivion, ulillillia's platform masters demo, and others with only a bit of configuration

FYI, Hotline Miami finally and unceremoniously released the Mac version, which runs great. The game is Steamworks and Steamplay enabled, so if you buy it for PC you'll be able to play it on either system.

Steam's been fuckin up hard for me lately.. heard this works, but havent done it myself

https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/2/35221584469748164/

Has to do with the universal access settings crap messing with the steam overlay.

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Thursday, 13 November 2014 19:06 (nine years ago) link

That drove me crazy for a couple weeks! Pretty sure the upgrade to Yosemite did it.
Finally (fingers crossed) fixed it by closing Steam, removing it from Universal Access, adding it again as a brand new app from that window, and rebooting.

Nhex, Thursday, 13 November 2014 19:17 (nine years ago) link

But I'll definitely try that command line fix if/when it happens again
