"Wise men say, only fools run empires without luxuries.. King."
"I disagree your excellency!"
"I concur, your excellency."
"I disagree your excellency!"

I seem to remember a Sherlock Holmes PC game that was entirely based around FMV (and very pleased with itself to boot).

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 October 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i think it's on Underdogs. The same crew later did "Dracula Unleashed"

kingfish neopolitan sundae (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 27 October 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

Yes yes yes! If that's the same Sherlock Holmes game as on the Mega CD I think it's fantastic. If it hadn't been for the FMV revolution of the mid nineties, Myst would never have happened!

melton mowbray (adr), Thursday, 27 October 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

???

check your chronology.

Myst came out in 1993, developed in 1992. It was one of the games(along with stuff like Rebel Assault & the 7th Guest) that kicked OFF the FMV trend...

And, as with all media technologies, i wonder how much pr0n furthered the development & adoption of cdrom technology...

kingfish neopolitan sundae (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 27 October 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

Rebel Assault had FMV? In the cut scenes, I guess.

My dad loved that game.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 27 October 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait, my bad. RA I didn't have FMV. RA II did. RA came along right after Myst & the 7th Guest were starting to build momentum behind CD drives.

Who also helped popularize the technology? Seymour Butts.

kingfish neopolitan sundae (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 27 October 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

Eh? The only thing I've got wrong is the term "mid nineties". Sherlock Holmes was 92 too, as was the whole Mega CD and Turbographix CD hoo-hah. Myst actually came out in 1994. At least, it did in the UK.

Surely Rebel Assault was ALL FMV (I never played the second one). IIRC, an FMV background played, while you moved your ship sprite out of the way of obstacles coming towards you on the FMV.

OUR SOLDIERS NEED BARRACKS YOUR EXCELLENCY

fucking barracks (alanbanana), Thursday, 27 October 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha, I love the way that instead of saying "Everything's splendid, your majesty!" like the rest of them, the military bloke just got plastered and fucked off.

three weeks pass...
The best was the Military advisor's suggestion that you go bonk some heads.

Also, didn't they make those bad motion capture star wars games?

2d motion capture was also an atrocity on that subject. Mortal Kombat.
