JGR is essential. The Sonic parts of the second Sonic game may be my favorite use of the system. If you have friends with whom you get fucked up and play video games, the UFC and Virtua Tennis games are king of everything.
Bonus: if you're into wrestling games, there's a very great Fire Pro available, and you can boot imports from an easily-downloadable bootdisc

just dug out my old DC at lunchtime to see if it worked. yes it does.
played Toy Commander, Sega Rally 2, Dave Mirra, Daytona, and Crazy Taxi.
Toy Commander, I loved this and it's still pretty smart. Freakin hard to get into, controls aren't great, but starting from the first level again seems to be a good idea.
Sega Rally 2, it's amazing to see this against the realism of Dirt etc now. With it's rock and house music blasting away and 4 tracks to choose from.
Dave Mirra, urgh the same sodding horrible tune that plays throughout this. Apart from that, enjoyed it.
Daytona, I think this stayed on for about three seconds.
Crazy Taxi, just laughed my head off at the music and the voices of the passengers. Love the mini games, although I've completely forgotten the little control tricks that gave you more speed etc.
I would love to see Toy Commander revised again, is there anything similar out there?

man toy commander was great. agreed on the controls though, my buddy would pull that one out when i went over and he'd always stomp me b/c i couldn't sort out the control situation BUT if it was fixed properly that game had a LOT of great ideas. like split screen goldeneye meets three vikings on-the-fly switching stuff if i remember correctly. greatness.

Played some Jet Grind Radio for the first time. SO GOOD! I love the music in this game. I was playing with the menu music for like a minute once cos it was a perfect 808 cowbell. It is fun to control too, I only wish there were no cops. As soon as I start getting the hang of a level they come out and do that repetitive nagging sound over and over again and slow you down. It's worse than the beeping in the original Zelda, as far a game mechanics that kinda get in the way.
― AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 15 December 2015 02:57 (ten years ago)
The story is really cool and the characters are neat. I like the shoegaze-y song they play when introducing Gum. It all has a very late 90s cyberpunk feel to it, and the music is straight out of heyday MTV2.
― AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 15 December 2015 02:59 (ten years ago)
I should see if the sequel, which I never really played much of, is available for online purchase on something I own now. Agreed, though, JGR is so much fun

sadly, JSRF doesn't seem to have ever been ported up, though the 360 is backwards compatible with it. hopefully someday - it's m/l a decent remake of the original
