Donkey Konga

Anyone else have these games? They're great for separating the rhythmic from the arrhythmic. I started out pretty incompetent but I can go gold on most Gorilla tracks now. Also, 4P conga arrangements are incredible and so satisfying to sync up on.

Some of the songs are kinda crap, but you get used to them. I've got Donkey Konga 2, is 1 worth getting? Could this game be good on the DS? I feel like it could.

This would also be a good place for Jon to talk about the awesome shit he has hooked up with our second TV.

I've only got Donkey Konga 1, and only feel like playing it when I'm drunk.

This may not be the best combination.

A friend of mine has a Donkey Konga, the first one I think. It's a lot of fun, and this game + drinks is definitely a good combination. I always feel a little guilty when I win because I consistently do worse throughout the whole song and then win the ending drumroll, which we all agree is weighted too heavily.

Tapping the microphone instead of actually clapping = lame BTW! I DEMAND CLAPPING.

I never even thought to tap the microphone. Tappers hate fun and shouldn't even play.

GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY FAGGY FAGGO FANCYPANTS

i borrowed this a while back for a night of bacchanalian konga'ing, expecting a nude beer bongo party, and what i got was some queerass game with lame covers of lame songs that stops being fun after about 4 minutes.

You don't have any rhythm, do you.

Also, who sees Donkey Kong and thinks "bacchanalia"?

Laura H. (laurah), Wednesday, 4 January 2006 18:12 (eighteen years ago) link

i did best out of all my friends actually! not that musical 'rhythm' has any kind of application at all to this game.

Of course it does. If you can't consistently keep a beat, you can't play the game. That said, being good at Donkey Konga /= being able to dance, drum, etc.

Donkey Konga 3 supposedly has lots of NES tuneage.

Oh man the Orange Range version of Locomotion is on there! Yeah, it would be nice to have a modded GC, but I get so nervous about modding.

one of my NYC buddies said that Donkey Konga + LCD projector on the side of his friend's house were his justification for a gamecube.

Umm... don't you have something like FreeLoader in the US? Play the Freeloader disc, open the lid, insert disc from any region, play game. Easy, no mods.

Hey, if the one we use over here works I've even got a spare one I can send you.

(just checked, according the interweb it will work for you - all you need is a memory card specific to country of origin)

Is this game even nearly as good as Samba De Amigo?

aldo, intriguing... are there any other good jp games?

...that we need to get

I got a Freeloader to play Winning Eleven 7 (released as PES4 elsewhere in the world on other consoles) - you don't get a huge amount out of the depth of the game unless you know how PES works, but you do get to play the best football game made, with the best controller and the best graphics.

Strangely, I've never looked into jp games to see which other ones I might want. Scared of getting addicted to them, possibly. Although I can see looking into it being a way of passing today...
