the kit! (g-kit), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 16:49 (twenty years ago)

ok, not really a MASSIVE COLLECTION, but i was totally psyched to run across my old suitcase full of old atari and coleco games when i was helping my parents clean their basement a few weeks ago. i hadn't seen it in like 15 years.

two weeks pass...
Last night I got the camera working with Linux, so now I can post pictures of my games to compensate for my terrible penis collection. It's no Neo Geo wall, but it belongs to me!

What's the system just below and to the left of the VCR in that last pic? Is it the late-model mutation of the SNES or what?

Dan I. (Dan I.), Sunday, 12 February 2006 22:12 (twenty years ago)

looks like a Super Famicom right next to a Dreamcast

kingfish has gene rayburn's mic (kingfish 2.0), Sunday, 12 February 2006 22:28 (twenty years ago)

"terrible penis collection"?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 12 February 2006 22:33 (twenty years ago)

It's a regular PAL Super Nintendo, albeit very yellowed. It's slightly different to how it should be though, by way a little 50/60hz switch in the back and a bigger cartridge slot. There's a picture of one the colour it's supposed to be on the Street Fighter 2 poster in the picture above.

melton mowbray (adr), Sunday, 12 February 2006 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Your collection deserves a biggger telly.

Blimey, the bit where the two pictures meet is breaking my brane :(

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Monday, 3 July 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

Ha, I thought it was all one picture at first, and that your piles were HUGE!

JimD (JimD), Monday, 3 July 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

(I guess they're pretty huge anyway though).

JimD (JimD), Monday, 3 July 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

(Sorry, I should stop talking about your piles).

JimD (JimD), Monday, 3 July 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

nice piles, melton.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Monday, 3 July 2006 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

melton's piles are better than his penis collection, imo.

teh_kit has 22 friends (g-kit), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 08:41 (nineteen years ago)

Holy fuck melton that's worrying and impressive at the same time.

Darramouss ftw! (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 4 July 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

Our stuff's all over the place so wouldn't make for much of a picture I dont guess. You guys rule.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

im enjoying the store window type display on the top shelf

sunny successor (katharine), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 12:09 (nineteen years ago)

Haha! We think there's asbestos in there, so can't take it down or put anything heavy up there, which makes shop window display a must!

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

Hay you have those fairylights wound all over your shelves - I have that too =)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 6 July 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

I am jealous of your Vib Ribbon poster, melton. that is one of my favorite games everrrr.

Abbott (Abbott), Saturday, 8 July 2006 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

That poster came free with the game, in the UK! I have one too. Somewhere.

JimD (JimD), Sunday, 9 July 2006 00:47 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think the game ever got released proper in the U.S. The promo website is still up. It has a picture of Olive and a song by them. It's a nice little time capsule.

Abbott (Abbott), Sunday, 9 July 2006 02:23 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

I am thinking of selling all this stuff, if only to prove I can. I don't know where to start.

It'd sort of hurt to get rid of it all, but surely that's half the reason to do it. I shouldn't be so attached to what is essentially junk, right?

Maybe get rid of everything that isn't Megadrive. Argh, so difficult! This is why people should never collect shit.

melton mowbray, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)

Awwwww, I so feel like I should just fucking doing it, but ouch!

melton mowbray, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:00 (eighteen years ago)

Man if I had a collection like the first guy I would never, ever sell it (was it actually yours forks?). I would, like, build a museum for it, and charge people money to come look, and use that money to not ever get a job and play my video games FOREVER.

and I would wear the FUCK out of the neogeo hats.

Will M., Tuesday, 4 September 2007 13:49 (eighteen years ago)

not mine. This thread was intended to provide a picture thread for people to throw their fave finds up on, but i like that it's become OUR massive video game collections.

forksclovetofu, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 20:26 (eighteen years ago)

Crikey. Yesterday I decided it was all go, but now I'm fucking scared. Perhaps will go out to a bootfair over this weekend and kick start the whole thing by getting rid of ones I don't care about too much. Then work my way up to ebaying the good'uns.

melton mowbray, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 08:04 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno Melton. Is there a board where someone would buy large chunks at once? That could make it easier.

Also, would it be possible for you to just keep say 20 games and 5 bits of equipment and resign yourself to losing the rest?

kv_nol, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 08:33 (eighteen years ago)

i want to see mm's pictures

abanana, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

yeah me too

jeff, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

Melton, sell it all and use the cash to invest in a quality MAME standup arcade kit and emulate the shit outta those. You'll save space and have a much cooler conversation piece.
http://www.mameworld.net/

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

If you can get two grand for the kit and kaboodle, that's probably as expensive as it's gonna get.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

also can i see pics of your collection, melton, cos it appears the pic no longer works?

Will M., Wednesday, 5 September 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

'kin'ell, I can't believe I'm doing this. Packed a lot of it away into boxes today to take out over the weekend. I'm not so fussed about the money (though I'm sure not giving it away for free), it's more the fact I'm parting with it all.

Here are a couple of pictures, though they're dead old (even before the ones I posted on here). As it stands there are over 300 Megadrive games and a lot of other bollocks. Every second is killing me, but it's got to happen sooner or later, right?

http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/2948/tower1bigvb7.jpg
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/8159/tower2bigsg7.jpg

Thinking about it now, it's a shame I didn't take some photos right before packing them away as a keepsake, but it's a bit late now.

I'd offer you guys any game of your choice, but I know you'd totally pick the ones I'm planning on making some actual money on. Any games anyone wants and thinks I might have it's worth asking though, cos I'm not a stig.

I'd also really like to give my modded 50/60hz Megadrive and SNES to someone on here. I put a ton of work into them and don't know how to go about selling them, even if they are worth something, so if anyone in the UK wants to play good games at full speed they're welcome to either.

This is fucking surreal.

melton mowbray, Friday, 7 September 2007 02:15 (eighteen years ago)

PS. lay off the Parappa figures. They stay with me :)

melton mowbray, Friday, 7 September 2007 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

It really is an immense collection. Is there a reason (e.g. space, monies) you're selling, or do you just feel it's time to part with it all?

I had quite a bunch of old Nintendo stuff (NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, GBA) and quite a heap of games between them all (though nothing compared to your collection). It sucked selling it, and I regretted it briefly (I really needed the space and got sick of having to carry all the extra boxes whenever moving flat). But I just hit up an emulator every now and then if I really want to play a specific game. With a controller and a way to hook the PC up to your TV, it ain't SO bad.

Of course, chances are I'll just end up buying all the games again on the VC for the Wii...

CraigG, Friday, 7 September 2007 11:41 (eighteen years ago)

Damn Melton, good on you!

kv_nol, Friday, 7 September 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)

melton, for a british dude you are MI-T REAL

forksclovetofu, Friday, 7 September 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

I never had a huge collection, I just don't have that collector's bug-- I don't need to "complete" things, or hang on to them really. So, pretty much anything I can emulate I sell to collectors, and anything I can't I hang onto until I can emulate it (or, in the case of something like PS/PS2, I just keep the machine and burn whatever game I want to go back to).

Just don't spend all of your collection money on collecting new things. It's a vicious cycle, man! Spend it on expensive booze or something. BUT DON'T COLLECT THE BOOZE! You must drink it.

Will M., Friday, 7 September 2007 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

The new episode of my friend's video game podcast is about big collections. Recommended, especially if you don't mind his stonerific mode of speech:
