Jade Empire

I would've bought this about 15 years ago if someone had told me I could get a game that combined KOTOR, DOA For Mashers, and Galaga. Definitely worth $20.

This will be a thread that dies a slow, lonely death.

Just so this thread doesn't go down lonely, I got Jade Empire for Xmas, but have yet to start it. I heart Galaga, so that's good to read. I was afraid from the box art it'd be an involved exploratory game like Shenmue. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Next game up is either RE4 or Silent Hill 3 (last of the four I haven't played).

I'm still waiting for it to come out for PCs. I heard the thing is less than 12 hours gameplay, tho.

I found this game really glitchy on xbox -- esp. in the village with the dead drowned kids. It probably took me 10 tries to get through it, and it was slow and laggy like I was playing it over LAN. Eventually I just gave up and turned temporarily closed-fist (from my open-palm ways) to get the damned thing over with.

It might be really short, I don't know (yet) - I just reached the Imperial City, which could possibly be the end, but I've logged 10+ hours of playtime. (Maybe I'm a slow player?) I haven't had much lag, excepting some brief delays between dialogue snippets, and I just chalked that up to issues w/ my Xbox (as it likes to stop dead every so often & mock me w/ a really annoying mechanical whine).

Great game, gets hilariously epic towards the end. Great mini-games, plenty of humour, love the spooky bits in the cemetery and the aforementioned village with the drowned children.

I liked it a lot. The combat system really grew on me as the game progressed.

One complaint: the ridonkulous amount of load time between Imperial City Arena FITES (esp. when compared to the Black Leopard Skin School FITES). However, JOHN CLEESE has more than made up for that minor shortcoming.

Fighting's fun, but I'm almost maxed out Legendary Style, and now it's just a matter of sticking & moving (tho I try to throw in stone stone / ice bits every so often).

I'm in the Necropolis, and every time the evil spirits pop up, I crap myself.

four years pass...

Yeah, this was pretty good! I just did a run through of KOTOR before this - surprised how good the game looked, especially in comparison. There were a lot of interesting concepts in this that unfortunately didn't get delved into enough, like the trinity of body/spirit/mind, open palm vs. closed first not necessarily being good vs. evil (though of course, by the end it pretty much is). The fight system was surprisingly great. I found the whole Western interpretation of Chinese lore to be pretty interesting, and though the plot follows the standard cliches of the genre, it was pretty refreshing to see the effort that was put into this to be different. Too bad it seems to be forgotten. I suppose I should eventually move onto Mass Effect in about five years.
