Where I'm from, it's all about the counters!

melton mowbray (adr), Friday, 27 January 2006 19:18 (twenty years ago)

You know what they say, the best block is a good high kick.

(I suck at blocking)

in mortal kombat 2 it always came second nature but in 3d fighting games it can be easy to forget about using.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 27 January 2006 19:30 (twenty years ago)

River City Ransom had the best blocking system. If a bad guy was punching you at the moment you hit the punch button, you blocked the punch. If he was kicking you and you hit the kick button, you blocked the kick. This is why games have gone downhill since the days of UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT SELECT START A B.

TOMBOT, Friday, 27 January 2006 19:37 (twenty years ago)

i am good at blocking. parrying is more fun though.

(daigo's full parry of chun's SA2 to thread)

Hitting a "block" button is LAME(MK/VF) compared with just holding back-direction(Tekken)

kingfish kuribo's shoe (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 27 January 2006 19:54 (twenty years ago)

Latebloomer OTM. I think I block in games like MK and SFII where pressing the directional arrow that goes 'back' means block, and not in games that have a specific block button.

xpost! I thought MK just used back direction?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 27 January 2006 19:55 (twenty years ago)

MK3 didn't, did it?

kingfish kuribo's shoe (kingfish 2.0), Friday, 27 January 2006 19:59 (twenty years ago)

It took me a really long time to get that blcok button right in the MK games. The best blocking/parrying is Tekken, I think. Makes so much sense! Block it if you can, but, just like in real life, you're probably better off stepping to the side and kicking him in the ass as hard as you can.

antexit (antexit), Friday, 27 January 2006 20:11 (twenty years ago)

xpost, you mean UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A SELECT START?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 27 January 2006 20:14 (twenty years ago)

Block first, guard impact second.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 27 January 2006 20:17 (twenty years ago)

i think every mk game ever has had a block button. holding "back" is definitely much better.

sleep (sleep), Friday, 27 January 2006 20:25 (twenty years ago)

MK was great when your opponent was playing it for the first time. "HOW DO I BLOCK OMG???"

I think I never use the block buttons because I secretly don't trust them to work, and yes pulling back, ie Exploding Fist, was much more preferred

Ste (Fuzzy), Sunday, 29 January 2006 12:40 (twenty years ago)

blocking blows.

did anyone else start every fight in MK by jumping toward your opponent and kicking while in the air?
that sad part is that it worked most of the time.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Monday, 30 January 2006 00:52 (twenty years ago)

i like it when you block, you still lose a little tiny bit of energy. i mean, if someone kicks you and you block it, its still gotta hurt a little bit, no?

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 30 January 2006 04:42 (twenty years ago)

Tekken lets you switch guard damage on doesn't it?

I think blocking is mostly dud but that SFII clip sleep posted of the guy blocking and countering a squillion-hit combo is awesome.

lol, i have no retort :'(

the amazing thing abt "u mad" is that no matter what the context - say, a corporate board meeting - it instantly transports the recipient back to first grade.

O'REILLY: Hold it! Hold it! You're looking at a principal...

CAM'RON: Why don't you want to let him talk? You mad. You mad.

O'REILLY: You won't let me finish.

CAM'RON: Where did you start covering up the fear, right?

O'REILLY: No, wrong.

CAM'RON: I'm going to get at you in a minute.

O'REILLY: You go ahead. You get at me.

CAM'RON: I'm going to get at you in a minute.

DASH: You mad.

O'REILLY: All right. If he needs you to come in...

CAM'RON: You mad. You mad doggy. Dooooggggy you mad. You mad doggy.....why you mad doggy?
