How about the NeoGeo Pocket Color? A friend just got one on ebay for like $50 with 5 games, which seems like a steal. It's a bit smaller than a DS or PSP and it's a few years old so graphically it's more on par with a Gameboy Color, but it's got some really fun games: ports of great SNK titles and quality third party stuff like Sonic and Puzzle Bobble, etc. There's a game called Dark Arms that's supposedly Zelda-ish. I think I'll get one if I can find one at a good deal.

But worse! I mean, yeah, games used to be $200 anyway. But a year ago, when I still worked in videogame pricing, there were some Neo carts that I could still shift for £350-400. That's what, $720? Properly insane.
NGP is a lovely little machine, and yeah, some fun mini super-deformed ports of SNK games. I always really liked it's little joystick, it's digital instead of analogue, but satisfyingly clicky, and really good for beat 'em ups.

Oh wow, that is disgusting.
Favorote NGPC feature: it will read you your horoscope displayed as a bunch of stats rated out of 5 stars! Like, my Health is four stars today but my Romance and General are only at two stars, oh man.

Couldn't find a KOF thread so I'm posting in here.

A couple of very nice KOF tutorials, very thorough in explaining the different hops and various counters and offensive options. I'm definitely more of an SF fan but the the games are still pretty nuts - would love to try KOF XII.
