Wow, I haven't heard of any of those besides Altered Beast (which may actually have been pretty nuts, come to think of it).

What's Comix Zone?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 15 June 2006 02:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Comix Zone! Beat-em-up style game set inside a comic strip. You jump through the pages.

Fantastic Dizzy - 4 insane side scroller / puzzle game where you're this flipping egg and you get sad when it rains
Marvel Land - 3 side scolling adventure for kids. mildly insane.

¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ (chaki), Thursday, 15 June 2006 07:15 (fourteen years ago) link

Fantastic Dizzy - four!? That shit's epic! Never finished it - there are even screenshots on the back of the box of places I've never seen.

Mercs is the best, you crazy mister.

antexit (antexit), Thursday, 15 June 2006 10:07 (fourteen years ago) link

whoever did that is insane.

it's "tool assisted", meaning it was played on an emulator with slow motion and savestates.

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 15 June 2006 13:17 (fourteen years ago) link

I can't remember playing Altered Beast much, but it all looked very familiar when I watched that. Maybe I beat it long ago?

I love how they didn't really bother animating dude's legs, they're either in full kick position or not.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 15 June 2006 13:52 (fourteen years ago) link

ILG - "Tool Assisted"

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 15 June 2006 20:35 (fourteen years ago) link

Fantastic Dizzy is at least a 7 and a half.

Shadow of the Waxwing (noodle vague), Thursday, 15 June 2006 20:56 (fourteen years ago) link

Comix Zone is maybe the game I've wanted to play the most that I never got a chance to (Chrono Trigger is a close #2).

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 June 2006 00:04 (fourteen years ago) link

On the internet, anything is possible-- even playing Comix Zone and Chrono Trigger (and I highly recommend doing both)

Will M. (Will M.), Friday, 16 June 2006 00:36 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh I know, I'm just lazy and like being a tortured soul.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 June 2006 00:38 (fourteen years ago) link

OMG. Chrono Trigger is immensely good.

jeffrey (johnson), Friday, 16 June 2006 01:16 (fourteen years ago) link

I know the feeling. Until this very night I put off playing Earthbound (even though I kept saying "GOD I WISH I HAD PLAYED EARTHBOUND!")

Hell, this might deserve its own thread so as not to threadjack this one. I might even make it more fun than that.

Will M. (Will M.), Friday, 16 June 2006 05:50 (fourteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...
Batman - Revenge of the Joker - side scroller platformer. annoying animations and frustraiting gameplay. 3

Captain America and the Avengers - arcade style beat em up. kinda fun. 5

X-Men 2 - Clone Wars - another side scroller with unique gameplay and suprsingly fun! 8

The Death and Return of Superman - nope. 3

Ninja Gaiden - yes ok genesis had way better graphics but the gameplay is actually WORSE than the nes! sheesh! 3

The Revenge of Shinobi- man another standard side scroller but man.. if there isnt something about shinobi that makes you just.. relaxed. i love this game! 9

¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ (chaki), Friday, 30 June 2006 06:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Pac-Attack - some tetris style pac clone with truly frustraiting gameplay. 1

Pac-Man 2 - The New Adventures - some truly fucked up rpg style thing that i COULD not figure out how to fucking play but it was disturbingly fun. (?!?!) 7

Pac-Mania - this is the 3d pacman update with the lego style board where you can jump. imagine pacman but 3d and slow and not fun. 3

This is one of my favourites :)

melton mowbray's APOCALYPTO! (adr), Friday, 30 June 2006 11:33 (fourteen years ago) link

I want to join in:

Speedball 2 - 9, 10 if it wasn't so damn easy after those first few games. Real sport shld be like this.

Toejam and Earl - 7 Drunken two player fun. If only i could remember where that secret level is where i get cola's and hottubs.

jeffrey (johnson), Monday, 3 July 2006 23:49 (thirteen years ago) link

I think you get to it by falling off the first level?

The Yellow Kid (The Yellow Kid), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 06:32 (thirteen years ago) link

The Death and Return of Superman - nope. 3

Do you have this, or are you playing Roms? In the UK this is pretty rare, so I'd imagine the same goes in America.

¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ¨ˆ (chaki), Wednesday, 5 July 2006 18:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Okay, I'm bringing my OCD tendencies to the table and starting from the beginning.

3 Ninjas Kick Back - Stoopid platformer. Couldn't get more than 2 screens across before I got bored. Shit.
688 Attack Sub - Sub Sim on a Sega? Fuck that.

Toad Roundgrin (noodle vague), Saturday, 8 July 2006 15:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Addams Family Values - Reasonably cute Action-RPG. A bit like playing Zelda on syrup.
Air Diver - Afterburner rip with bad graphics. Probably induces photoepileptic seizures.
Alien 3 - Cool run and gunner. Ripley walks like she's got piles. Not enough ammo. Not as good as Blackthorne, but what is?
Arcus Odyssey - Possibly the WORST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED IN MY LIFE. And I used to have a Spectrum.

Toad Roundgrin (noodle vague), Sunday, 9 July 2006 08:59 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm trying to remember this one Genesis game, it was a one-on-one fighting game involving all these different aliens. One of them was fat & red and possibly had hundreds of tiny hands, I think?

Note: not Eternal Champions

Alien Storm?

zappi, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 15:38 (thirteen years ago) link

No, it was definitely a 1-on-1 tournament fighting game.

Jordan, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 16:00 (thirteen years ago) link

I found a little list and picked out the Mortal Kombats, Samurai Showdowns, Street Fighters, etc, and here's a list of other, previously unmentioned fighters...

King of the Monsters (1 or 2)?
Clayfighter (any)?
World Heroes?
Pit Fighter?
Mystical Fighter?
Time Killers?
Deadly Moves?
Brutal: Paws of Fury?
Ballz?
Slaughter Sport?
Ka-Ge-Ki Fists of Steel?
X-Perts?
TMNT Tournament Fighters?
Rise of the Robots?
Ultraman?
Shura No Mon?

latebloomer, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 18:50 (thirteen years ago) link

latebloomer, Tuesday, 15 May 2007 18:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Jordan you are giving up too easily. You have the internet, right? I mean, I know you do.

Will M., Tuesday, 15 May 2007 20:40 (thirteen years ago) link

No, I was obsessing! I looked through the wiki list of fighting games and a few other sites, nothing.

Will M., Tuesday, 22 May 2007 16:26 (thirteen years ago) link

Seems they have write-ups for a lot of stuff, and don't need my help, nvm :D

Will M., Tuesday, 22 May 2007 16:31 (thirteen years ago) link

one year passes...

I know i mentioned this on another thread but this one seems more appropriate.

Psycho Pinball is the tits.

Also, a good shout for Toe Jam & Earl especially two player which is a lot of fun.

Ste, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 09:12 (eleven years ago) link

dag i played psycho pinball for hours instead of doing my homework back in the days

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 5 August 2008 09:40 (eleven years ago) link

Toe Jam & Earl was great. I shudder at how they'd update it.

kingfish, Wednesday, 6 August 2008 04:56 (eleven years ago) link

havent they made several terrible sequels?

phil-two, Thursday, 7 August 2008 04:48 (eleven years ago) link

hmm. Well, maybe not _several_...

Sequels and other appearances

Two sequels have been released:

* ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron (Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, 1993)
* ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth (Microsoft Xbox, 2002)

ToeJam and Earl also appeared in Ready-Aim-Tomatoes!, a game packaged with the Menacer light gun for the Mega Drive/Genesis, which involved ToeJam fighting off Earthlings by throwing tomatoes. They have also appeared in Art Alive! and Wacky Worlds, both paint programs for the same console.
