Sony puts Lik-Sang out of business. Way to go, Sony.

Why is this noteworthy? It's a store in Hong Kong? Pardon my ignorance. Were they actually infringing on Sony copyright?

Who?

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 18:05 (nineteen years ago)

That's fucked up. Lik-Sang brought the world Osu! Tatake! Ouendan!

adam (adam), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

Lik-Sang were the place to go to get anything imported. They didn't infringe shit. They just sold PSPs to people in Europe before the Europe release dates Sony had set, by mail, from Japanese stock. Lik-Sang had all kinds of amazing japanese games and gear way ahead of non-Japan release dates, it was kind of great.

I honestly can't figure out how Sony's lawsuit would have had a leg to stand on if they had ever gotten to court. I suppose they all knew it, too.

Oh ok.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

I think my oldest boy got his PSP from these guys.

It's funny how giant corporations are pro-Free Trade until it doesn't suit them, wankers.

You've Had Your Chances (noodle vague), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

standard bit, really; the old line about how the worst enemies of capitalism are successful capitalists.

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

It'd be funnier if it was called lik-wang.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Tuesday, 24 October 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

OMFG. I bought my GP32 from Lik-Sang, what a bummer :( They also gave me Animal Crossing free because it came late. These were nice people Sony, you gits!

Sony KNEW Lik-Sang couldn't afford to MAKE IT to court.

They DON'T realise that this combined with the POS that the PS3 ALREADY IS let alone WILL BE will utterly destroy them.
I honestly think they'll be near bankruptcy(that looks wrong, but i''m not spell checking).
Everyone all over the world knows by now that Sony=shit quality.
Largly due to the thing that brought them to power: the Playstation line.
The only way I'm able to get the playstation I was given to work is to lay it upside down carefully, turn it on, and hope a strong wind doesn't blow.
The picture quality out of the PS2 for DVD playback was poor no matter what you did(cram that much electrical junk into that small of a package and that's what happens).
The PS2's replacement parts market is huge. Not just for modding, but because the lasers burn out often on many models, the power supply on others...

Sony makes shit, they could care less about their customers, and now they could care less about 3rd party developers.

They're morons. I can hardly wait for the huge bite in the ass they won't recognise until they die of the infection their own teethmarks leave.
They're doing what Sega did back in the days before the Saturn. The difference is the Saturn was underpowered, and the PS3 is overpowered.

1.5 years and any PC will outpace every PS.
They're courting people to make games that play better on PCs.
The system costs as much as those PCs will.
Their launch lineup isn't large enough to warrant waiting until after XMAS.
They tout the ability to play Blu-Ray, but who knows where that's going, and also, if the pictue quality's along the lines of the PS2(alot of interference, color bleed, dullness) due to MASSIVE AMOUNT of electronics in the box there's NO POINT. "Well, I guess I'll use this thing until the price of a REAL BR player becomes reasonable." NO ONE will say that. They'll think "Wow, Blu-Ray's not that great."
It'll kill the wormat they're trying to push.

And thus my rant about how happy this terrible situation will make me in the long run ends.
There were several controllers and video cables I wanted in Lik-Sang that I'll have to find elsewhere.
I hate that i'll have to waste time...

Lik-Sang were the place to go to get anything imported. They didn't infringe shit.

Just FYI, Lik-Sang started up primarily as a place for mod chips and other mostly-piracy-related products. I can't remember if this was pre or post DMCA. In the beginning, they existed almost exclusively for that kind of stuff.

There's little chance Sony will go bankrupt in any hurry, surely things like their patent on the CD, and theirfscking huge bloated elephant of a record company would keep the exectives in warmed banknote-lined underpants for many years to come.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 03:03 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, I doubt the execs for the Japanese division are all that rich, really. Just a cultural coporate scructure difference. maybe 5-600k/yr.
Thing is, the way Sony's divided, Sony Records is RELATED to their electronics division, but not directly connected to it.

More likely than the bankrupcy is a sell-off of their electronics division and some of the patents.

Also, Lik-Sang's been out of the modchip business for years.
This is just them being vindictive.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 03:39 (nineteen years ago)

Trust Mickey to bring the inside scoop on piracy!

You've Had Your Chances (noodle vague), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 08:08 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sorry, I honestly could not help myself.

You've Had Your Chances (noodle vague), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 08:08 (nineteen years ago)

SCEA (the playstation div) is the only part of the company that makes money right now. They're banking on the PS3 to save Sony, period.

It'll be a shame only because eventually my PS2 is going to break down too and I'll have nothing to play classic ps1 & ps2 titles on.

SOME LOW END BRO (TOMBOT), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 15:18 (nineteen years ago)

noodle vague, OTM.

like murderinging (modestmickey), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

Thing is, PS1 games play in a computer, and the PS3 will play like 50% of PS2 games and even less of PS1.
It's a POS.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

You are a true magician of verbosity.

Darramouss (Darramouss ftw), Wednesday, 25 October 2006 22:01 (nineteen years ago)

A victim of it, really.
I have difficulty with condensing my thoughts.
