Getting the rhythm of those charge ultras is a little weird at first, but you can get it down. I don't know if I can describe it well, but it's you hold (DOWNBACK), then you go BACK, FORWARD, BACK+PUNCH, your stick/pad movement should be (HOLD), TAP-TAP-TAP.

The easiest way to mess up that kind of Ultra is to "roll" the joystick inputs so instead of going right-left-right, you're going RIGHT-down-LEFT-UPLEFT-LEFT-down-RIGHT or some such. Open practice mode and turn on the inputs so you can see what you're doing.

I got AE on 360. Who's down?

Nhex, Thursday, 30 June 2011 05:09 (twelve years ago) link

not got AE yet, still figuring out the previous one. Not sure i can justify the price tag for just four more characters either.

also thanks for the info up top. i watched some tutorials (yes i'm THAT much of a noob on these games) on the web, actually it was for MvC3, but some of the basics were worth knowing.

also i was trying ultra on arcade versions that might not have actually included ultra option, doh.

getting better

Ste, Thursday, 30 June 2011 09:10 (twelve years ago) link

well. played my first on line session last night. pretty spectacular failure. must have played in excess of a hundred bouts and didn't win a single one.

i was choosing ranked match which i presume means it tries to find opponents of similar level. this didn't appear to be the case at all, everyone seemed to be a complete expert at delivering the right special moves and at the right times.

bullshit really.

Ste, Saturday, 2 July 2011 16:22 (twelve years ago) link

sorry man! SF can be brutal no matter what level you're at. i still occasionally get nights where I'll go 1 for 20 if I'm lucky. what character(s) are you playing as? have you tried doing the challenge modes for that character to nail down some of the basic combos and setups?

ppl doing ranked are generally in it for raising points, you might want to give the player lobbies a try as they might be more relaxed (though, not necessarily, there are still good ppl playing in non-ranked)

Nhex, Saturday, 2 July 2011 20:55 (twelve years ago) link

i'm trying to stick with chun li as I've learnt her moves, but i just don't get chance to perform them in the live battles. in the training room i'm fine haha

i'll try the challenge modes, is that similar to the mission modes in MvC3?

I kept getting matched with the same players too, to a point where one guy actually disconnected when he saw my name again.

Ste, Saturday, 2 July 2011 22:24 (twelve years ago) link

that was me

Ultra comes out at the end of the month. Hooray for costumes and Poison?
I can't believe AE came out THREE YEARS ago, damn. I almost want to commend Capcom for their restraint, but you know they're gonna do something for X1/PS4.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-03-18-how-the-combofiend-went-from-fighting-players-to-rebalancing-street-fighter-4

Hadn't heard about the new delayed wake-up mechanic; that could really change the game significantly.

Nhex, Wednesday, 19 March 2014 15:20 (ten years ago) link

Of course, people who already thought SFIV was too defensive-minded will probably be even more annoyed...

Nhex, Wednesday, 19 March 2014 15:21 (ten years ago) link

I'm not sure about it. Near-unblockable cross-ups were a major problem, but delayed wakeup makes normal cross-ups worse as well.

qwop zapatos (abanana), Thursday, 20 March 2014 16:40 (ten years ago) link

Even on cross-up, the delay still grants more control to the knocked-down player, doesn't it?

mohawk ororoducer (abanana), Thursday, 5 June 2014 07:07 (nine years ago) link

not a surprise

i think i'm gonna wait for physical release of Ultra

Nhex, Thursday, 5 June 2014 16:57 (nine years ago) link

Well it was a surprise to him.

I am disappointed by Ultra. Same outdated netcode and they didn't fix unblockables properly.

Mad Catz has the 360/PS3 TEs on sale for $80 this weekend. Kind of tempted to get one, even though I know it's stupid now that PS4/X1 sticks are surely going to be announced by the end of the year...

Nhex, Saturday, 7 June 2014 22:32 (nine years ago) link

Didn't even realize they announced a PS4/PS3 stick for USFIV
http://www.joystiq.com/2014/06/05/mad-catz-ultra-street-fighter-4-stick-to-feature-ps3-ps4-toggle/

Nhex, Sunday, 8 June 2014 04:08 (nine years ago) link

But hmm. 360 version of the new TE won't be XB1-compatible. weird.

Nhex, Sunday, 8 June 2014 04:11 (nine years ago) link

I was going to buy the TE for 360 last night, but they sold out. Ah well, maybe if they're on sale again around Evo. It's really tempting to wait until next year to get back into the fighting genre on PS4 w/the likely port of USFIV, Guilty Gear Xrd, MKX coming out

I'll probably come back here around August looking for matches

Holy crap, Daigo and Infiltration already eliminated??

Nhex, Saturday, 12 July 2014 21:31 (nine years ago) link

Louffy won USF4 at Evo. Pad Rose player from France.

Rrrhhhh (abanana), Monday, 14 July 2014 05:27 (nine years ago) link

holy crap, i can't wait to watch that

Nhex, Monday, 14 July 2014 05:56 (nine years ago) link

but i will because i am exhausted for the night

Nhex, Monday, 14 July 2014 05:57 (nine years ago) link

srsly tho Rose is my main since OG SFIV and Luffy's m/l the only famous Rose player, i'm amazed

Nhex, Monday, 14 July 2014 06:00 (nine years ago) link

did he really use a PS1 controller and how is this possible

thanks - i was thinking about watching Top 8 and then realized it would be like four hours

Nhex, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 01:31 (nine years ago) link

awesome!
man i bet most of those watching have no idea how hard it is to dominate with Rose like that, the concentration, perfect spacing and reading you need to win with her. don't know of her changes in Ultra, i'm gonna guess her MK/c.MK got better?
love that Luffy is giving Tokido a run for his murderface
also, come on EVO, his name is spelled correctly right on his shirt!
who is this Bonchan guy?

Nhex, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 02:05 (nine years ago) link

i was wondering, so I checked - this IS the first time a pad player has won Evo SF
i could swear a pad Gief won ST Remix a couple years back, but maybe that doesn't count since it was relatively small

Nhex, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 02:09 (nine years ago) link

actually making me rethink trying to adjust (not well) to stick for the past year or so, maybe I should just go back to pad

Nhex, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 02:10 (nine years ago) link

Nhex if I were to get one of these (on PC) which version should I plump for? I am a total fighting game newb aside from mashing buttons in arcades in a distant youth.

thomasintrouble, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 10:45 (nine years ago) link

The newest version, Ultra Street Fighter IV, comes out on August 8, so I would wait for that. If you see a good deal in the meantime for the last version, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, it will be upgradeable to Ultra via DLC

There's a new type of option select discovered that lets you block, throw tech, or do an invincible special move (using FADC) depending on what the other guy does. RIP Street Fighter IV

poxy fülvous (abanana), Thursday, 19 March 2015 01:47 (nine years ago) link

kind of impressed that guy would even make a video to explain it, that's some high level shit

So apparently the PS4 port of Ultra is some hot garbage. Capcom should've known better than to outsource it..
