I figure there's a lot of discussion about rage quitting on ILG these days, so thought a thread might be a place to vent, or whatever.
For me, this is the possibly the biggest road block to me getting into online gaming (the biggest roadblock being that I suck at most games that are worth playing online). Whenever I've played online I've either had my ass handed to me so badly, and repeatedly, that I lose heart and give up, or I'm actually good at a game (Clubhouse Games bowling!) that people rage quit on me.
I think the first time I had a rage quit was Yahoo Pool a long time ago. I was stuck in my house for a few weeks after badly hurting my ankle, so got pretty 'Fats' on it, but found that anyone with a better rating than me would just rage quit when I was winning.
What I don't get though, is why more developers don't make it so that if you disconnect, you lose and your opponent wins? I appreciate the argument of it not being fair to tag someone as losing when they have a bad connection, but if you don't have a stable enough connection; shouldn't you just stick with unseeded matches?
I guess I wouldn't care so much, but I'm an 'honest' gamer. Although it's disheartening getting whooped, I'll still take it in the hope I can get better, and because it's just good sportsmanship. I see it like; if I rage quit when I'm playing PES with my friends IRL, they would take the piss so much, so you're gentlemanly about it, and I feel the same about online games.

as I said in the other thread, this is a big thing with fighting games (there are multiple threads abt it in the srk game specific sub-forums, and there is the bad losers wall of shame) where the competition is intensely personal and egos are pretty big
w/fighting games it's often accompanied by rage mail:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAFOAFy6akA

i am a rage quitter par excellence when playing Pro Evo. I'm all over a guy all match, hit the post, hit the bar, miss an open goal etc. and he has two attacks and scores from both of them and i go off my head and leave. Stopped doing it recently but for a while I was pretty bad.

Haha right after complaining about it on here I quit a FIFA game at 0-2 down (because I'd accidently started the match with the P2 controller which had circle and square reversed resulting in stupid bookings/wild shots left right and centre and there was no way I could turn it round as a result), but I did send the person an apology.

is 'rage quit' like an actual phrase ppl use?
― born s1ocki (cankles), Friday, 17 July 2009 15:37 (fifteen years ago) link
the only online game i play lately is FB scrabble (lmbo) and i get a lot of 'rage quits' due to owning foolz w/o mercy (the dude has no etc)
it's a phrase people use on here... I'm liking that bad losers wall of shame: "I only lost to you cos your a homo you homo"!! Naming and shaming doesn't go far enough though, hanging's too good for 'em, etc.
I might try some online PES this weekend and see if I can elicit any quits...

I could see how it would be REALLY annoying in football or any long 1v1 game, which is why I only play those against legitimate people on my friend's list. Its become pretty easy to overlook in fighting games, since a game only lasts a couple of minutes (at most), plus it's so common, one better get used to it. It's one area of gaming that achievements could be making worse, as instead of playing for fun or to learn and get better, a certain percentage of weird people are only playing for gamerscore.
More troubling than rage quitters in fighting games are the people flat out cheating, using turbo buttons or lag pedals. I will definitely quit out of those games (when it's obvious), but not out of rage, simply out of disgust. I wish I had more real friends playing the games I want to play so I never felt the need to play random strangers...

Nah - it's rarely ambiguous at all. For instance, SFIV & BlazBlue on console keep track of your disconnect percentage and SSF2THD gives the person who disconnected a loss and you a win on the ranked leaderboards

(f1f0 had an aneurism)(f1f0 left the game)
I laugh when someone throws a full-on strop & ragequits, I got to admit.
Also, I agree that cheaters are much more annoying, playing against some lamer who's ass you could hand to him/her but for some funny reason they never miss headshot/headshot/headshot etc is just a bit PITA. I usually just type "aimbot" and (rage)quit when that happens.

Yes! I have seen it used many times, usually prefaced with "lol".

Most often, though, the quit move I pull is the YAWNQUIT, when some game gets hopelessly deadlocked, going nowhere, and the countdown timer reads 18:47, screw that.

hey cankles, if you wanna play FB scrabble look me up on bobbyspirals at gmail dot com. only a couple of my friends are playing right now and i need more distraction during office hours. offer extends to anyone else too. i probably won't rage quit.

i may take you up on that ^_^
thought this was gonna be about quitting games that are too hard. i've never rage quit but have chewed out teammates and been like "wtf have i become" afterward. I've pulled the modem cable during a couple WoW pugs (pick up groups).

Ha, I wish I'd saved the page last night, it looks like the guy's unrage unquitted.
Person I know irl who plays ut2k4 loads is in this clan, she told me that it had imploded and that the owner had posted whatever it was above (it used to be the clan homepage or forum page or something). Whoever it was that they were slamming on, ~I'm sure I remember playing against them and they were pretty good? whatever.

so I finally beat id Software's RAGE today. You kinda have to sympathize with the dev teams who spent so long on the game that probably sounded cool years ago, but was so long surpassed by everything two Fallout games and Borderlands could achieve.
Even still, the final product was kinda enh, but I really liked the driving bits. Seems like you coulda beefed that up or even come out with a game of nothing but Carmeggedon stuff.
Still, I bought this for $5 on a Steam sale, and it was worth that for the driving stuff.
