83: CAPTAIN COMIC

melton mowbray (adr), Monday, 26 September 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

Scorched Earth was a greatly updated version of Tank Wars, three years later. Better AI, physics, weapons etc... but they're both awesome. Strategy/Combat games, the granddaddies of games like Worms or Hogs of War. I'll bet SE at least would stand up today.

antexit (antexit), Monday, 26 September 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

The fun of VGA graphics! Look, all 256 colors!

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 26 September 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah Escape Velocity I loved that game!

Dan I., Monday, 26 September 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

That one that was Ambrosia's Centipede clone was great too. Ambrosia was like the only good thing about Mac games (although they put out a bunch that sucked too). The sound effects on their older games were great too cause they could use like for example on Maelstrom a Ren and Stimpy sample, and on the centipede one the "Hooba!" and that trippy middle-east sounding tune after the game over I think.

Dan I., Monday, 26 September 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

95. Raptor

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 27 September 2005 03:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh, that Gostak! I haven't played it, but I read about it with great interest. I should finally give it a whirl.

Was Space Tripper the same as Space Junkie? because my god I loved that game, played it until I dreamed the background and the music burbled constantly in the back of my head.

stoleyourbike (stoleyourbike), Monday, 3 October 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

67. doukutsu monogatari! C'MON!

Fuck yes. Beating the hard ending of that game totally justified playing all the way through a second time, which I can't say about many other games.

64. N. Super-smooth puzzle/platform game. Like a cross between Lode Runner and Abuse. The sound of getting vaporized by a laser is so satisfyingly perfect that I didn't even mind the first three dozen times it happened.

SFF (jjrj), Saturday, 8 October 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

Wait, Dan, where did you run into Adam? Was he haunting the alternamusic groups?
