why would you run a play w/ a pass like that involved
― johnny crunch, Saturday, 24 March 2012 04:44 (twelve years ago) link
yeah, just asking for it to go out of bounds
― circles, Saturday, 24 March 2012 04:45 (twelve years ago) link
Withey with 10 blocks, the most blocks in a tournament game since Shaq.
― Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 24 March 2012 04:48 (twelve years ago) link
UK plays like tonight, no one is going to beat them. They got everything: inside game, shooting, defense and tonight they just lit up the charity stripe. IU played a pretty good game for the most part, but once the fouls piled up and Oladipo had to go to the bench, they just couldn't hang.
― earlnash, Saturday, 24 March 2012 06:50 (twelve years ago) link
Glad they called those fouls early on Zeller to reign him in. Dude plays dirty and doesn't have to. Can't see anyone beating Kentucky, either.
Props to Stillman White. I told my wife he's the Tar Heels' Matt Seracen.

Any team is beatable, but Kentucky looks like the best team still in the running. I don't have a beef against the UK players. Lamb looked especially underrated as an efficient role player against Indiana. But fuck Calipari with a nightstick.

jayhawks were really lucky that withey didn't get his 5th foul w/ about 2 minutes left. they totally had the momentum after that.
― circles, Sunday, 25 March 2012 23:20 (twelve years ago) link
Barnes soooo not ready for pros.
UNC shot 11% from 3 point range.
I hate KU with the fire of 1000 suns. They can go eat a bag of dicks.

This put me in the uncomfortable position of rooting for Ohio State. Bill Self's smirk needs to be permanently wiped off his face.
Kentucky/Louisville should be kinda fun. Not that I care for either team or coach, but the stands should be filled with all sorts of hate.
Really wanted Stilman White to rise to some mythical place in Tar Heel history. At least it wasn't his fault that they last. No turnovers in two games from a third-string point guard is nothing to be ashamed of.
― john. a resident of chicago., Sunday, 25 March 2012 23:54 (twelve years ago) link
Thankfully White didn't step on his dick, but he was a liability the whole game because his vision of the court is pretty narrow and KU guards ran all over UNC--the Tar Heels looked like they were learning an offense the last 10 minutes. Who the hell draws up an offensive set that has the #4 and #5 men up on the three point line for much of the shifting. DUMB.
Three of my least favorite coaches in the sports world are now left (Calipari the Cheater, Facelift Pitino, and Self) so needless to say, I'm not looking forward to the Final Four.

i liked that barnes story -- he has a pretty interesting decision... he can cut bait and STILL probably get picked in the bottom of the top 10 or maybe he comes back to carolina and becomes actually great and goes top 3 in a weaker 2013 draft
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 March 2012 21:46 (twelve years ago) link
the question is more if he comes back and plays himself out of the first round, a la josh mcroberts . . .
― mookieproof, Monday, 26 March 2012 22:01 (twelve years ago) link
yeah, that would certainly be the risk -- i'm sure he'll go
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 March 2012 22:02 (twelve years ago) link
who the fuck is gonna be on carolina's team next year
also injuries are injuries but i'm kinda surprised that roy isn't catching more flak for not having someone even 10% as good as kendall marshall backing him up. PG is the most important role in his offense and his back up plan was stilman white??
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 March 2012 22:03 (twelve years ago) link
ppl in my office today were talking about how roy was outcoached by bill self (despite self not being much of an in-game coach).
i dunno, i didn't see the game. i'd be reasonably pleased with seven assists and no turnovers from a guy who averaged six minutes this season tho, just from the line.
― mookieproof, Monday, 26 March 2012 22:10 (twelve years ago) link
yeah i don't know, UNC almost lost to ohio. they clearly weren't gonna beat kansas w/o marshall. you could just as easily make the argument that it was a miracle that they were even that close.
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 March 2012 22:11 (twelve years ago) link
i mean seven assists and zero turnovers sounds okay on its face but... the guy is playing with literally seven potential first round picks. he wasn't doing anything but swinging the ball to really, really good basketball players. he had one good play where he slipped into the lane and hit henson for a dunk. but other than that he wasn't doing anything that any random bench guard off any team in america couldn't do, and that's not good enough for north carolina imo.
it's obviously not his fault, and to his credit up until the final desperation 90 seconds he didn't try and do anything he can't do (i.e. score) but they should've had someone better than him.
― J0rdan S., Monday, 26 March 2012 22:15 (twelve years ago) link
> catching more flak for not having someone even 10% as good as kendall marshall backing him up> they should've had someone better
Kendell Marshall started the year as Larry Drew's back up. When Larry Drew left the school in February, Dexter Strickland was Kendell Marshall's back up until he tore his ACL. Stilman White was effectively the fourth string point guard at the start of the year.
