lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:36 (eleven years ago) link

from what I can tell, everyone under 30 w/o strong ties to a hometown team is

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:39 (eleven years ago) link

bulls are missing what three starters they won a game and kept two others close and a tiny dude on a minimum contract torched the heat

lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:41 (eleven years ago) link

i don't think it's necessarily a bad thing, i mean i grew up in upstate NY and started liking the nuggets once they got carmelo (i was a syracuse fan obv) -- my fandom waxed and waned over the years. i don't see why sports can't be like music where you like this band a lot because they make a couple of awesome records but then you end up liking other bands more

that's not how sports culture works dummy

乒乓, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:44 (eleven years ago) link

and highest paid player on active roster is carlos fucking boozer

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:44 (eleven years ago) link

irredeemable!

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:45 (eleven years ago) link

yeah I'm not down with that. my grandpa liked the white sox and only the white sox from 1917 until he died in 2004. sox finally won in 2005 and my uncle bought him a ticket, sat next to empty seat at one of the WS games. you don't get shit like that w/fly by night fandom. there's lots of ill effects from it imo.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:48 (eleven years ago) link

being a disloyal sports fan is def a personal failing but I can live w it, taking it to the next level w bandwagon gloating on the pre assembled best team in the league is just too much, its like when people move to ny from ohio or w/e become yankee fans and start talking abt 27 championships, shameless

lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:53 (eleven years ago) link

kids today with their rock music and walkingmans are just too impatient to deal w/a team who's in an extended doldrums phase

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:56 (eleven years ago) link

rip heat, good run

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:57 (eleven years ago) link

i feel bad for ppl who don't have teams--they're just floating around in the ether, desperate to cling on to something.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:59 (eleven years ago) link

rip hamilton blocking wade on the fastbreak probably the lowest moment of wade's career

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 May 2013 23:59 (eleven years ago) link

bosh shooting 7/14 from three in the playoffs now

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:02 (eleven years ago) link

He's the next Steph Curry.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:03 (eleven years ago) link

lol how did the bulls tie this

乒乓, Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:04 (eleven years ago) link

they're shooting 51% from the field and 4-5 from three

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:05 (eleven years ago) link

heat will always have those 1st 8 minutes

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:06 (eleven years ago) link

and 8 playoff victories over the bulls

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:07 (eleven years ago) link

Bulls have swept Heat in playoffs, Heat never swept Bulls if you wanna play this game, frenchy

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:11 (eleven years ago) link

oh wait you weren't a fan then cause they didn't yet collude to create super team

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:13 (eleven years ago) link

isn't j0rd from florida?

乒乓, Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:16 (eleven years ago) link

well i was 8

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:16 (eleven years ago) link

i was never really a huge heat fan, i'm pretty agnostic as far as the nba goes

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:18 (eleven years ago) link

dang

乒乓, Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:18 (eleven years ago) link

i'll be getting the pitchforks and assembling the mob now

乒乓, Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:21 (eleven years ago) link

i really liked the wade-odom-butler team but i found them to be kinda unlikable in the wade/shaq years and then they were just totally dreadful and unwatchable from about the season after they won it all up until the superteam

i root for the heat because everyone wanted them to fail, it's convenient for me that they happened to end up on the heat

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:22 (eleven years ago) link

the heat being the big 3

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:22 (eleven years ago) link

are you team-agnostic in all the other sports you follow

乒乓, Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:23 (eleven years ago) link

the nba is a unique sport i think... there are certain teams with enough history that it would be a bit weird if you were from that city but didn't root for that team (boston, chicago etc) but otherwise because of the lack of parity it can be a pretty fruitless existence. i couldn't imagine "rooting" for the wizards or the bucks or whatever.

which is why i advocate rooting for teams that are fun or interesting or whatever the case may be. every other sport is a different story though.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:25 (eleven years ago) link

no i strictly root for hometown teams in other sports. again, the big 3 ending up in miami happened to be convenient.

of course once it becomes clear that the dolphins or the marlins or whatever are going to openly suck i'll pull for some teams when the playoffs come, but that's a different thing.

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:26 (eleven years ago) link

and with that i'm off to see kanye west perform at an adult swim event, enjoy the second half everyone

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:27 (eleven years ago) link

well i don't think anybody itt is arguing that you can't root for other teams besides your home team, we're just saying it's weird for ppl not to have a default team to always stan for regardless of circumstances

乒乓, Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:27 (eleven years ago) link

eh in basketball i prefer to pleased aesthetically

J0rdan S., Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:28 (eleven years ago) link

like nobody is saying clay can't root for the grizz because he's a blazers fan, or that i can't appreciate the heat aesthetically because i'm a sixers fan

乒乓, Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:30 (eleven years ago) link

yeah I def float around on the ether looking for a mistress 2nd team to cling to

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:33 (eleven years ago) link

/i root for the heat because everyone wanted them to fail, it's convenient for me that they happened to end up on the heat/

no u do not get to pretend the heat are some sort of anti heroes just cause they fucked up their marketing

lag∞n, Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:36 (eleven years ago) link

rose-butler-deng-boozer-noah should be a pretty good starting 5 next year, looking forward to it. assuming rose is still rose and deng isn't dead.

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:38 (eleven years ago) link

why do people still try to foul lebron when he's by the rim

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 May 2013 00:42 (eleven years ago) link

yeah agreed i think it's fine just as long as you're not obnoxious about it, like you and i obviously are very big fans of the NBA, i don't think anyone would deny that, we spend probably too much time and money watching games etc, so i think it's legitimate to root "for good basketball" and ave favorite teams that are fun or serve an idealogical purpose that can change every once in a while

matt i would assume is the same way, idk how he became a nuggs fan but i think he would consider himself a "nuggs fan" even tho it probably wasn't always that way

dont talk to Jordan he's watching kanye on adult swim
