― Spottie, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 20:37 (ten years ago) link
Apparently they did give him just a warning but changed it to a $50k fine after he tried to do the same thing to Greg Monroe

zach lowe had a good #hoopidea today which is to give players techs for intentionally kicking balls
it's really fucking stupid that guys can just throw their feet up in passing lanes if they're out of position
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:06 (ten years ago) link
honestly I feel like I see uncalled travelling like almost every game. Sometimes it's harmless, like on an three-on-one fastbreak dunk or something, but still.

i don't really care about uncalled traveling myself... if a dude takes 4 steps and dunks the ball or something at least it's fun to watch
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:08 (ten years ago) link
I definitely feel like a lot of it is on dunks, which makes sense if you buy that the refs are under direction to keep the game exciting to watch

― le goon (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:14 (ten years ago) link
imagine how much more fun it is to be russ' brother than j.r.'s
just on any number of levels
what makes me nuts is they call tons of travels every game on exactly what wade does there -- receive a pass, take a couple steps to get centered. But it's wade so no call. Then he takes three or four more obvious steps, but it's wade so no call. I'm sure that possession ended up, with dude at the line after an aimless drive and no contact fall to the floor. Just basically I hate wade.

#tradeeveryone
― signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:14 (ten years ago) link
Seems like you can't get rid of travelling, because then you'd get rid of dribbling, too. Why dribble if you can take all the steps you want? So, you need some kind of standard for how many steps you can take before you must dribble. We have that already.
What we don't have is a consistently applied standard. Everyone needs to get called the same way and everyone needs to know what is allowed and what gets called. We don't have that.
― Aimless, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:16 (ten years ago) link
I would be cool with just allowing the first couple steps Wade takes -- the "get your balance" steps. But once you come to an obvious fucking full stop
― signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:17 (ten years ago) link
feel like the players n refs do have a p good understanding between them as far as whats allowed, tho it may be sort of opaque to outsiders
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:17 (ten years ago) link
imo lots of travels on like what you see with wade there go uncalled. You see a couple of those a game tbf. it doesn't really give him much of an advantage so it doesnt bug me as bad, just looks bad on the league. They've been calling the quick first step before putting the ball down on drives a lot which is fine by me, thats a pretty major advantage so it should be taken away.
4 steps is too many on a drive, not fun to watch when its so blatant.
― Spottie, Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:19 (ten years ago) link
honestly that d wade play.... who cares

esp with dudes like bron who already have such a natural advantage on a drive
― signed, J.P. Morgan CEO (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 8 January 2014 22:26 (ten years ago) link
yeah if its just on some open court barely contested slam dunk shit who cares but on drives it can be a major difference maker
