If you are seriously sweating that your private conversations might be so bad that you'd have something like this happen to you if you got out, maybe you should just rethink everything about your life.

it happened because when you run a cartel you put your long-term financial well-being ahead of your personal feelings about one of the members

God, the reflexive nature of conservative opposition. A man is revealed as a racist so unambiguously that even they unanimously concede he is despicable, and their response is still, who had it out for him, cui bono? We all benefit, you clowns.

ta-nehisi coates completely otm, comments like sterling's and cliven bundy's deserve to be shitted on by everyone but the narrative is always that this is the worst kind of racism and also the only kind of racism that still exists, i.e. clueless old oafs. i've already seen a bunch of articles decry the comments but talk about how "these guys are old and part of a fading generation" so we can celebrate that racism will soon be gone!

I actually kinda like these stories; obviously everyone is in a rush to tell stories articulating just how awful a guy this really was but I think that sort of ignores a bigger point - people like this get into money and power because they also know how to be affable and likeable when they need to be. Granted the Simmons story paints him to be as much of a weirdo as all the other ones do but it also shows a side that IMO is more dangerous.

http://www.salon.com/2014/05/02/this_is_what_junot_diaz_wants_his_undergrad_students_to_read/
Díaz, informed that Salon had tracked down his syllabi, assured us via email that the diversity of perspectives he emphasizes is less about the books than the approach. “I teach classic Gothic texts which are themselves not very diverse by our standards,” he said, “but the critical lens I deploy helps my students understand how issues of race, gender, coloniality etc. are never far and how these problematics in fact underpin even what what would be considered a ‘white text.’”
Sharing just a list of books, he feared, “feels like a shortcut—like throwing out Sterling from the NBA.”
