The Knicks and the Lakers are nos. 1 and 2 (as of Monday) in percentage of field goal attempts taken from 16 feet to inside the 3-point line — i.e., the much-maligned long 2 — 29.5 percent for the Knicks, 25.6 percent for the Lakers.

Both teams are in the bottom third of the league in percentage of attempts that are 3-pointers, an especially weird stat for the Knicks, who are shooting a league-leading 40 percent from beyond the arc.

weird, they are? I feel like they don't take many 3's when I watch them.

And I'm right, they are 23rd in 3PA. So I feel like that stat is probably the result of them having a lot of randos who can neither shoot 3's nor drive just running in and chucking up long 2's.

Yeah hard to believe Knicks are tanking unless just masterfully hiding it. I don't credit melo with enough grand strategic thought or selflessness to deliberately miss so many shots though.
