about half of the reason i'm happy this happened is because i know it'll offend so many delicate first-take-informed sensibilities of casual fans

Warriors could beat this year's Olympic team (tho Klay would have a pretty busy day guarding himself)

zaza is 32 and will probably regress
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 00:20 (eight years ago) link
He's also v bad at defense and Rim protection which is really all they need from a center

Andrew Bogut more like Andrew Bigot amirite.

I doubt Wade gives them much more than they got from JRpert in the playoffs but I guess he could have a renaissance
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 01:59 (eight years ago) link
he averaged 21, 5.5, 4.3 on 47% from the floor in the playoffs last year, nothing to shake your head at

What the fuck
Free agent guard Seth Curry is finalizing a two-year, $6M deal with the Dallas Mavericks, league sources tell @TheVertical.
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 02:04 (eight years ago) link
he also made like half of his career 3s in those last couple games vs hornets

Harrison Barnes getting the max and Curry getting 3m is not a rational marketplace

well big men matter during the regular season because playing small exclusively would be too physically taxing. but the cavs won game 7 w/o playing a traditional center which makes 2 straight champions that severely deemphasized the position.
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 02:27 (eight years ago) link
you need big men to bang during the regular season & during the playoffs ideally you have big men to be flexible depending on the matchup or series but the best teams are playing small. okc's run in the playoffs could maybe be a counterpoint to that but even they were at their absolute best w/ kd at the 4.
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 02:29 (eight years ago) link
& even teams w/ dominant centers (pistons, 2016 heat, 2015 rockets) wanna play "small" w/ a combo of guards & wings or in the case of the rockets want to play 4 out w/ a traditional stretch 4

can someone with good hoops acumen explain why this has happened? is it (a) lots more dudes are better at shooting 3s (b) illegality of handsy defense, (c) something else?

i think it's that the league realized the value of the 3 pointer and so guys who can't shoot are gradually being filtered out of rotations and/or the nba. it seems like playing thru the post is generally matchup dependent now. also a lot of teams are valuing centers who can guard out to and along the perimeter, and that requires a level of athleticism that prob negatively correlates with post moves.
also consequently teams fully realize the value of spacing that comes from having good shotoers.
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 02:48 (eight years ago) link
the flip side is that guys like demarcus cousins are especially unguardable but teams realize it takes an especially skilled or overwhelming post player to emphasize that part of an offense over the spacey/shooty style
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 5 July 2016 02:50 (eight years ago) link
also zone defences make it really difficult to post up unmolested
― micah, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 03:33 (eight years ago) link

kinda weird that KD is younger than Steph. feels like he's been in the league so much longer.
Just had a thought that dray klay kd curry and jerry west should all head over to Larry Sanders' house and have a little chat
