lol @ the inevitable media freakout today because marbury scored 12 points.

score when he entered the game in the 4th: 69-59 magic
score when he left the game in the 4th: 85-75 magic

he was -6 for the game. i guess some credit is due for keeping the second unit in it but turkoglu and tony battie (!) were doing similar damage to the c's over the same stretch.

Somewhere Shaq is laughing at SVG right now

Why would this be? Stan Van Gundy is in the playoffs.

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 13 May 2009 12:10 (fifteen years ago) link

I just checked the regular-season final standings. In fairness, The Suns were just two games out of the No. 8 spot in the West, and the difference between them and the team ranked below them (Golden State) was 17 games.(n.1) So The Suns were a pretty good team.

___________________________
(n.1) Not an apples-to-apples comparison, but The Suns were also 10 games better than the No. 9 team in the East (Indiana).

Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 13 May 2009 12:14 (fifteen years ago) link

suns had they employed alvin gentry as coach all season and not gotten so injured wouldve been formidable

Just referencing the barbs Shaq threw at SVG earlier this year, calling him someone who panics easily and can't control his team. So far, the Magic have blown three leads in this series, and they've already let a Philly team take them to 6 games. Sure the Magic are a young team with not a lot of playoff experience between all the players, but you gotta think that they would have learned how to keep a lead by now. Their offense yesterday during the C's 4th quarter run was really quite atrocious - you have to think that if Pop or Jackson were coaching with that kind of a lead they would have been able to keep it.

"And one thing I really despise is a front-runner, so I know for a fact that he's a master of panic, and when it gets time for his team to go in the postseason and do certain things, he will let them down because of his panic. I've been there before, I've played for him."

Although the more I think about it, it may not entirely be SVG's fault. It's becoming obvious that the players have come to distrust SVG's decision making come crunch time, as evidenced by Dwight's "coach is nervous" comment after the game. If the players are already ready to throw the coach under the bus, then there's not much he can do.

svg does often seem panicky during games w/his insane screeching

in-fighting not a good look for a team trying to get to round 3

magic are looking at this series and thinking they shouldve already won - frustrating!

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Cleveland is going to dismantle Boston, I think.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:38 (fifteen years ago) link

itd be almost better to lose a close series to the magic and not have to deal

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:41 (fifteen years ago) link

fuck that, the magic don't deserve to beat the c's. if cleveland wrecks them i don't really care, i'll be rooting for the lebrons in the finals.

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 16:51 (fifteen years ago) link

magic/cavs would be boring. c's might at least make it interesting even if its a trainwreck blowout sweep series. ok that'd be boring too but BIG BABYYYYYYYY

well i mean almost - cavs series is going to be depressio

yeah but i've had like two full series of close calls to make peace with that. it's not like the cavs aren't deserving, they got the best player on the planet and the right complimentary pieces. they aren't even really douchebags either. i honestly like over half of their players.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 17:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Denver/Cavs would be tough because I like pretty much everyone on both teams. Lakers make a better villain team, and a good series needs a villain I think.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 17:24 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, tbh i would still support cavs cause from a dues-paying perspective they deserve a ring.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 17:28 (fifteen years ago) link

i like cavs but find their style of play sort of boring and utilitarian

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 17:29 (fifteen years ago) link

without the possibility of lbj going off at any moment i would agree.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 17:31 (fifteen years ago) link

even lebron is an unspectacular spectacular, its weird

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 17:34 (fifteen years ago) link

ahhhh i don't know abt that dude

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 17:48 (fifteen years ago) link

I kind of agree. He's mostly better than everyone else in such a predictable consistent way. Plus he seems so good-natured most of the time. He could stand to shit-talk a little more.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 22:39 (fifteen years ago) link

Lakers...as villains?

Say it ain't so. They've got some quality guys on that team, and one dude is the best player in the league who we all cheer for, despite not wanting to allow him anywhere near our girlfriends/ daughters/ female friends.

true

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 23:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Wait, so Lakers fans don't know that they're the only people in the world that don't despise the lakers absolutely? That's kind of weird to me.

a short guy with a lot of power (Clay), Wednesday, 13 May 2009 23:45 (fifteen years ago) link

I find that hard to believe. I despise MYSELF just for being a Lakers fan.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 13 May 2009 23:48 (fifteen years ago) link

booyatech and the walton kid. That tall kid. The big eared farmer. The short old guy and the guys that came from the Grizzlies. What's not to love?

james k polk, Thursday, 14 May 2009 00:28 (fifteen years ago) link

The whole Kobe v. LeBron thing is really kind of unprovable, either way. Therefore, with no danger of being proven wrong, I wade in fearlessly and re-assert that Kobe is the best.

I don't despise myself for being a Lakers fan. I like the team, I like the franchise, I like the fact that a whole lot of native Angelenos (like, born & raised) have been fans since birth, I like the history of the franchise, and fuck, I live here, and never had an NBA team that I was attached to before - other than a short contrarian run as a Knicks fan, simply to counter the Bulls fans of the early to mid 90s.

So, yeah...Go Lakers!

mark cl, Thursday, 14 May 2009 00:35 (fifteen years ago) link

But we ALL hate Vujastiff. Last year, he was the "Don't know WHAT he's gonna do!" guy who managed to hit a good number of big shots.

This year, he's the "We ALL know what he's going to do - shoot, miss, cry, repeat."

Love me some Odom, though. Gasol, too.
