Wait, so Lakers fans don't know that they're the only people in the world that don't despise the lakers absolutely? That's kind of weird to me.

I find that hard to believe. I despise MYSELF just for being a Lakers fan.

booyatech and the walton kid. That tall kid. The big eared farmer. The short old guy and the guys that came from the Grizzlies. What's not to love?

The whole Kobe v. LeBron thing is really kind of unprovable, either way. Therefore, with no danger of being proven wrong, I wade in fearlessly and re-assert that Kobe is the best.
I don't despise myself for being a Lakers fan. I like the team, I like the franchise, I like the fact that a whole lot of native Angelenos (like, born & raised) have been fans since birth, I like the history of the franchise, and fuck, I live here, and never had an NBA team that I was attached to before - other than a short contrarian run as a Knicks fan, simply to counter the Bulls fans of the early to mid 90s.
So, yeah...Go Lakers!

but cavs will still win
But we ALL hate Vujastiff. Last year, he was the "Don't know WHAT he's gonna do!" guy who managed to hit a good number of big shots.
This year, he's the "We ALL know what he's going to do - shoot, miss, cry, repeat."
Love me some Odom, though. Gasol, too.

I'm a long time Odom fan. I felt bad when he landed on his back. He seemed okay though in the little bit of the last game I could stand to watch.
― james k polk, Thursday, 14 May 2009 00:39 (fifteen years ago) link
Dunno about it. Cleveland is good, to be sure, but the Lakers are hitting their stride, and can beat anyone in the league.
The fact that Cleveland had the best regular season record is nice, but
They only beat the Lakers by one game, and they did so against the weaker Eastern Conference.
The fact that Cleveland has had two straight sweeps is nice, but
The Hawks and the Pistons were dysfunctional and injured teams who would have been the 9th and 10th best records if they were in the West.
I'm not saying it won't be a great series - it will - and I'm not saying there's not a chance the Cavs will win - htere are one or two - BUT
The Lakers are deep, the Lakers are tired of being called lazy, and the Lakers have more talent than the Cavs.
― Two Will Get You Three (B.L.A.M.), Thursday, 14 May 2009 00:40 (fifteen years ago) link
they did so against the weaker Eastern Conference
Yeah, but keep your eye on the East over the next few years. We're drinkin' milk!
(And Clev. and/or NY, Miami, Orlando and Boston will remain or may well become top-notch teams).

am totally ok w/ this tbh. having an incredible, solid team with the league's MVP that is just kind of steadily pummeling away at everyone is exciting enough for cleveland right now. totally love it too that lebron's so good-natured pretty all the time and doesn't talk a lot of shit. there's so many kids and families right now in ohio that just totally love the fact that we have this native son who's so fckin good but also seems remarkably mature for his age/skillz

btw i'm totally bummed that i've seen barely any playoff games this year. don't have cable and up until this week i've worked nights so i haven't been able to make it to bars/friends' houses to watch em

I cannot hate on LeBron in any way, shape or form. Dude is awesome. He just happens to play for a team that my team will most likely play if they make it to the finals.

o in that case since its unprovable i wade in fearlessly and say battier is better than kobe
― ice cr?m, Thursday, 14 May 2009 00:51 (fifteen years ago) link
Be fair: Battier is good, but Kobe is one of the best 20 -- maybe even 15 -- players in the league.

LOL. Yeah, he's pretty good.
I'll be relying on this thread for periodic game updates, since I'm forced to watch a toxic stew of True Jackson, VP and iCarly with my daughter.

Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS -- Danny Granger told a storybook tale of how he learned he'd been selected the NBA's Most Improved Player.
The Indiana Pacers star offered a picturesque image of riding in a gondola in Venice, Italy, with one hand in the water and the wind blowing through his hair.
Much of that was indeed a story -- he was in Venice, but in his hotel room instead of a boat when he heard the news. Upon coming clean at a news conference on Tuesday, those in the room broke into laughter.
"I can honestly say it really did come as a surprise," he said. "I really had it out of my mind for a while. I was on vacation, enjoying Italy, and all of a sudden, I'm winning the award."

I'm in Hong Kong right now and I get by through justin.tv and zomse.com; you can always find some dude streaming the game, even if it's in Spanish. Always annoying when the NBA cops force them to shut off the stream when it's 40 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter, though.

haha no, for some weird licensing reason whenever a local TV station shows a game, they just show the "Where will amazing happen" commercials over...and over...and over...

Report: Woman dated Banks before Nowitzki
Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki was not the first professional athlete to have a relationship with Cristal Taylor, The Dallas Morning News reported Wednesday.
Tony Banks, a former NFL quarterback, told The News that Taylor tried to turn his life upside down in 1997.
"This is unbelievable," Banks told The News. "This is wild. I can't believe it's the same chick."

I will gladly watch Melo take a jumper over Kobe taking a jumper - there's something about Kobe's form that bugs me, something not quite right.
Melo being Paul Pierce on step removed is a very good descript - both big guys with ropey limbs who always seems to be one step quicker than the guys guarding them. xp
The Nuggets should rename the Pepsi Center to The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera

kobe along w/a lot of big scorers (you joe johnson) has fallen in love w/the fade away - to a certain extent because hes so good at hitting tough shots kobe takes too many - hes obv a v efficient player especially considering the volume hes dealing in - but i think he could prob do better
