most def
funny that he almost had a rep as a "pesky defender" once and chauncey walked right by him once or twice this game

I like the Birdman, but this DUDE HE WAS JUNKY AND NOW HE'S NOT! IT'S FUCKING AMAZING!-thing is getting really tired. Please stop mentioning the league's substance abuse policy people.
― Alex in SF, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:05 (fifteen years ago) link
JR Smith OTOH has the single most hateable expression and body-language I think I may have ever seen. Does the dude think he's the second-coming of Chris Paul or something? His attitude is seriously out of whack with his talent level.
― Alex in SF, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:06 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah people have been talking abt him as a guy who just doesnt get it since he came into the league

See, thats just the thing - I love sports. But I'm not a fanatic about many teams. The ones that I do get really excited about are the ones that play hard for schools/cities I'm associated with.
But these guys just seem to not give a shit. SO frustrating.

if lakers fans can tolerate and even love kobes sociopathic preening anything is possible
― ice cr?m, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:14 (fifteen years ago) link
i think we both know it's different - kobe is the leader of that team and has been one of the three best players in the nba for the last decade. smith is a nobody and a showboat and has zero redeeming qualities...he's like terrell owens except not as talented
― i am rubber, t u.r.koglu (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:18 (fifteen years ago) link
plus kobe has a foil in vujacic that makes him seem like the grown-up in comparison
― collardio gelatinous, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:19 (fifteen years ago) link
JR Smith is great, I dunno what you guys are talking about

"if lakers fans can tolerate and even love kobes sociopathic preening anything is possible"
Laker fans just love to win and Kobe is a great player. People ignore a lot of nonsense when you are great. If JR Smith was a great player his nonsense would seem a lot more tolerable.
― Alex in SF, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link
from a fans perspective we think abt things like respect for the game and appearances and whatnot but players are just trying to channel an attitude thatll give them an edge - its an insanely hard league to stay in and every little thing counts
― ice cr?m, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:32 (fifteen years ago) link
The thing about JR Smith is that he has shown flashes of greatness - I dunno how many of you guys have seen him play before this playoff series but the dude can definitely shoot the lights out and get to the rack at will when he's locked in. One of the great things about the Billups trade is that he is such a stabilizing force for Smith and prevents him from riding Karl's pine; I predict a pretty great season next year from him as long as he's under Billups's tutelage
― Can't stop the dancing chickens (dyao), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link
hes a talented scorer - insanely one dimensional and inconsistent tho
― ice cr?m, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:37 (fifteen years ago) link
like last year he had a ridiculous end of the season then came back this year and forgot how to play for the 1st half of the season
