i enjoyed the celtics crazy comeback game last year tho xp

I loved the Heat-Mavs series, but I had a rooting interest. Last year's Finals, too, for that matter.
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 8 June 2009 02:23 (fifteen years ago) link
Basically, when teams I like win, I like the Finals. I'm shallow that way.
yeah i could see the joy, especially for celtics fans, in last year's series -- and my lakers schadenfreude knows no bounds -- but i couldn't really get into that celtics team. i have issues with teams that are just thrown together and not like built and grown together over years, it just rings a little false with me. but that's my thing.

i was on the road during the heat/mavs series, so i don't think i saw a single game! but i think the officiating issues with that series that have been documented pretty rigorously over the years since would have driven me crazy. and i really wanted stern to be forced to hand cuban the trophy. would have been a spectacular moment.

i can see what you're saying, the whole idea of "buying a championship" and all that, but the c's last year, led by kg, made a concerted effort from day one to gel and become a real team xp
― collardio gelatinous, Monday, 8 June 2009 02:28 (fifteen years ago) link
oh they absolutely did, i don't discount their championship at all. but from the beginning of the season i had a bit of a grudge against them because of the way they were constructed.
this all sort of began for me when payton and malone decided to ride shaq and kobe for a ring in 04 (lol @ how that worked out) and it just seemed completely hollow to me. and the c's weren't doing that, like i said, i just couldn't get into them. but i respect their win absolutely.

he needs more than 10 shots a game, that's for sure.

would help if he had any sort of clue abt moving in the post--dude got stripped multiple times down there.
― hugging used to mean something (call all destroyer), Monday, 8 June 2009 03:07 (fifteen years ago) link
7 turnovers!
bynum only played 16 minutes, so that means pau's on howard for most of the game. now according to official measurements gasol is 260 and howard is 265 but i find that hard to believe. seems like howard could push pau around/just out-muscle the guy. i guess if he had a more diverse post game? i don't really know what the solution with howard is.
xp
― a short guy with a lot of power (Clay), Monday, 8 June 2009 03:08 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah absolutely. it would also help if he made his post move sooner. how many times does he stand there waiting for the lakers d to set before he makes his first step? xxp
― collardio gelatinous, Monday, 8 June 2009 03:09 (fifteen years ago) link
howard doesn't have much of a post game at all yet.
this is the big unspoken thing about howard--dude is never going to develop the post game ppl are envisioning for him.
― hugging used to mean something (call all destroyer), Monday, 8 June 2009 03:10 (fifteen years ago) link
how do you know?

xp i was reading simmons i think and he was otm about this--post moves are something you kind of either get intuitively or you don't.

"there's something joyless about this series, is it just me?"
― This Ace of Base is driving me crazy (forksclovetofu), Monday, 8 June 2009 03:13 (fifteen years ago) link
howard obviously has a lot to work on but give credit to the lakers - theyre not letting him get shots off at all, fouling him hard and often and making him go 1-2 from the line every time.
― and why?!? (k3vin k.), Monday, 8 June 2009 03:14 (fifteen years ago) link
lakers def doing their job.
― collardio gelatinous, Monday, 8 June 2009 03:17 (fifteen years ago) link
oh and btw the joylessness comes from the fact that the one and only interesting story in this series is whether or not kobe Gets His
― hugging used to mean something (call all destroyer), Monday, 8 June 2009 03:19 (fifteen years ago) link
and whether phil passes red
