Evan Turner earned that contract in one game

CJ is now officially my favorite NBA player.

alpine static, Sunday, 12 May 2019 23:54 (five years ago) link

i haven't been a huge cj fan b/c he doesn't do much other than score but when you score like that in a game 7 you're more or less bulletproof.

call all destroyer, Monday, 13 May 2019 00:13 (five years ago) link

he takes almost exclusively difficult shots and i think that makes him susceptible to empty nights where his shots aren't falling and he isn't giving much else. but in tight playoff games tough shotmaking is very valuable.

J0rdan S., Monday, 13 May 2019 00:17 (five years ago) link

he did get that insane block but it was extremely out of character

Clay, Monday, 13 May 2019 00:25 (five years ago) link

Man phillys half court offense is brutal rn. I’d like to see them at least give jimmy a chance to run the show, it’s worked at times in this series and maybe that would get him untracked.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Monday, 13 May 2019 00:27 (five years ago) link

yeah that block was a winning play.

i’m rewatching the 4th since i was out earlier. the blazers were just able to stay solid in a game where nobody’s shot was falling. their rebounding and defensive discipline were excellent.

call all destroyer, Monday, 13 May 2019 00:37 (five years ago) link

evan turner was awesome too. for a guy who wasn’t supposed to be playing he made a ton of plays.

this is true and i need to build it into my thinking about him.

-Barton can’t be in the 8 man rotation anymore

i think you could optimistically say he's a guy who never really came back right this year and a healthy offseason will do him good. otoh i think he's on the wrong team. he isn't a 3 and they don't really need his skills or have room for him at the 2.

call all destroyer, Monday, 13 May 2019 00:57 (five years ago) link

barton would be good for like... the kings or someone

I see where fivethirtyeight places the chances of the blazers beating the dubs at 10% and their chances at taking the chip at <1%. I wonder if Las Vegas is offering those kind of odds?

Blazers prob gonna win game 1. Dubs really spent a lot of mental cache winning that series and will probably have a let down.

Really excited for the amount of scuffles that Zach Collins is going to get in with draymond and I guess klay too

Man this was sad and I love embiid again now

Thought this was a beautiful moment here. Marc Gasol showing great humanity and care amid his team's celebration, and Joel Embiid showing his raw emotion and desire. This is truly what it's all about.

catching up on thread:

1. i was taken aback by Embiid's emotion, in a good way. it made me like him more, and it made me hope he can stay healthy and reach his potential and win a ring someday.

2. Blazers should lock down Collins asap. dude can play *and* is fiery as hell. he's a future franchise legend type, if it all works out.

3. the shot of Kawhi crouching is stunning, but the lighting and contrast on that second (Getty) photo is just mind-blowing, man.

good day of hoops (helped by the fact that the right team won in the West)

he's fine!

i feel some closure knowing now that the spurs absolutely botched this trade and i feel happy for the toronto fans who have been let down for so many years in the playoffs. kawhi takeover games are special so from an distributive justice perspective, it is v good that another fanbase got to experience it.

be the 2 chainz you want 2 see in the world (m bison), Monday, 13 May 2019 11:27 (five years ago) link

My once-a-year appearance here...As I posted on FB last night, Kawhi's shot was like a cross between Bautista's bat-flip HR and Tiger's famous chip shot at the Masters, the one that hung on the lip for an extra second. I'm astounded that that was the first-ever game-7 winner at the buzzer. I thought for sure the Raptors had lost the game in the first seven or eight minutes, when they dominated every which way except shooting and emerged with all of a four-point lead or whatever. If they keep playing like they did last night, I expect they'll get crushed by Milwaukee. Anyway, thrilling beyond words.
