this guy also seems to have figured some stuff out, life is full or surprises

Carsen Edwards is up to 51 percent shooting on season (40 percent from 3) after his standout outing on Friday night https://t.co/7Wkl4nWpOv

was trying to think if theres ever been a really good "small sniper" type player, obvs theres great small shooters like kyrie trae etc but those guys are all around players, has there been like a tiny klay thompson, doesnt seem like a natural type as its much harder to get those catch and shoots off when youre small, anyway carsen is not a great creator w the dribble or particularly much of a finisher around the rim so maybe he can try to be the baby bomber

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 16:55 (three years ago) link

speaking of role players Teague seems to have this ability to turn it on and become very creative on the dribble, inbetween spells of total anonymity

agree about grant w, he’s kind of a genre-defying player

Also agree about the kickouts and kemba

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 6 February 2021 16:58 (three years ago) link

yeah teague has been borderline unstoppable off the dribble in the past but hes looking very cooked right now, who knows maybe hell find some form but i have not been loving what ive seen so far, pritchard has totally out played him to this point

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 17:02 (three years ago) link

yeah i'm not really sure what carsen is yet other than "better than jeff teague."

agree that kemba's game needs to evolve, was interesting last night watching him use penetration to get to the cp3 style short jumper rather than going all the way to the rim. his days of being a true three-level scorer might be over but he should be able to use the threat of his shooting to get good shots for other guys.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 6 February 2021 17:03 (three years ago) link

i've been high on grant for a while, everyone raves about his intelligence and that plus his natural strength give him a decently high floor

call all destroyer, Saturday, 6 February 2021 17:04 (three years ago) link

im always skeptical when the media raves about smart players, its usually just nerd shit that doesnt mean anything as far as the game, but grant does seem to have the high basketball iq tbf

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 17:07 (three years ago) link

also if kembas more judicious on his drives that will... open up drives for him

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 17:08 (three years ago) link

grant is like calling the defense and setting everyone up as a second-year player which is def notable

call all destroyer, Saturday, 6 February 2021 17:11 (three years ago) link

my big skepticism with grant was he just seemed useless on offense, with not a lot of obvious ways to improve... unless he could learn to shoot

eddie house was kinda like this no?

k3vin k., Saturday, 6 February 2021 17:39 (three years ago) link

ah yeah good one, career bench guy tho, trying to think if there was anyone who really lit it up

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 17:43 (three years ago) link

seems like something the league wasnt ready for in the past, but maybe now...

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 17:47 (three years ago) link

btw shoutout to eddie house he was very good the celtics champ season

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 18:05 (three years ago) link

if he counts as tiny (6-3) it seems like jj redick is the prototype of the player you're talking about

k3vin k., Saturday, 6 February 2021 18:10 (three years ago) link

i wld say jj doesnt quite count as tiny but yeah hes pretty close, i mean carsen edwards is listed at 5-11, which means hes prob 5-8

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 18:14 (three years ago) link

carsen might be a better defender than jj tho anyway

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 18:15 (three years ago) link

eh maybe that is his actual height

Edwards checked in as the shortest player at the combine at 5 feet, 10 3/4 inches without shoes, or 6-foot even in shoes. No surprise, as Edwards himself said he'll need to work on his point guard skills, since his future likely lies there at the next level.

However, Edwards' wingspan (6-6 1/4) and standing reach (7-11) are both impressive, relative to his height.

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 18:16 (three years ago) link

its funny that they finally started measuring guys w/o shoes but they kept doing it with shoes too, great everyone knows how thick the soles of his shoes were now

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 18:18 (three years ago) link

they didnt tell us if the standing reach and wingspan numbers were with shoes!!

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 18:20 (three years ago) link

it's so funny, it reads like everyone got measured wearing the same shoes

call all destroyer, Saturday, 6 February 2021 18:41 (three years ago) link

they should measure them with a variety of footwear: sandals, boots etc

lag∞n, Saturday, 6 February 2021 18:44 (three years ago) link

looking at that last game... if jaylen's out i think i'll take kemba scoring 24 on pull-up jumpers from the foul line pretty much every time. he can help grant williams on his threes later!

looks like hes wearing some old shoes form oregon

is this shade

“We’ll go back and look at some of [Kemba’s] drives and how we can space the floor better,” Stevens said. “I think we all can do a better job for him. That’s what we all will focus on. That’s what I’ll focus on, because I know he’s going to focus on himself.”

tristan has been awful i hate him

Here are the 5 players with the highest FG% AGAINST them when they are the primary defender (Min 400 defensive possessions):

1. Tristan Thompson (57.6%)
2. PJ Dozier (55.7%)
3. Thaddeus Young (55.6%)
4. Enes Kanter (55.1%)
5. Russell Westbrook (53.9%)

and hes taking minutes from two superior centers

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 February 2021 16:16 (three years ago) link

his mind moves slow, he is not a baller, he never just makes the obvious kick out after an offensive rebound

tristan is (was?) great at one thing and one thing only.

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Thursday, 11 February 2021 16:34 (three years ago) link

i thought he was good or at least alright defender but the league might be too fast for him now

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 February 2021 16:36 (three years ago) link

he’s pretty good at putting the ball in the hoop from 2 feet away tbf

Li'l Brexit (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 11 February 2021 16:51 (three years ago) link

hes not even!

lag∞n, Thursday, 11 February 2021 16:53 (three years ago) link

yeah i was hoping playing for a good team would rejuvenate him but he's such a stiff these days. i think he belongs on the second unit at best.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 11 February 2021 18:25 (three years ago) link

can't remember the timeline, did danny already know hayward was gonzo when he signed tristan? if so, inexcusable

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 11 February 2021 20:00 (three years ago) link

thompson is deeply lead footed for sure, would really have loved to see steven adams on this team.

last nights game felt like a vision of a possible celtics future, with the offense being run through tatum and brown (9 and 10 assists respectively) kemba playing a secondary role and shooters spaced around the perimeter, obvs it was way on the end of the spectrum as far as the jays playmaking rather than scoring but if they can do that playmaking when the defense forces them to they become pretty unstoppable, and kemba will get much better opportunities playing off the ball whether thats catch and shoots or attacking a defense already in rotation

lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 19:10 (three years ago) link

feel like every three nights or so an nba team just says hey let's not guard the corner three tonight and that was toronto in that game.

call all destroyer, Friday, 12 February 2021 19:40 (three years ago) link

they were really coming with those double teams, too much obvs

lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 19:48 (three years ago) link

celtics this season are playing like (checks notes) a .500 team.

Compromise isn't a principle, it's a method (Aimless), Friday, 12 February 2021 19:50 (three years ago) link

lagoon analysis otm and i really hope to see it. they just need some, um, actual shooters. it was such an unfamiliar feeling seeing a game where semi went off that i looked back through his game logs. he had an 18 pter earlier this yr vs the wiz but before that had never once scored 15 pts in an nba game. his 3FG% bounced up to 38% last yr so if he can keep that up maybe there are more games like this in his future

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 12 February 2021 20:09 (three years ago) link

i think semi can be a guy who hits open 3s his stroke looks much better this year, theis shooting is looking good too after being totally weirdly shook last year, i mean theyve got shooters tatum kemba brown and pritchard are all guys who can hit all the types of 3s, and then pretty much the rest of them except for centers and green can hit an open look probably at least enough of the time

lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 20:16 (three years ago) link

an absolutely knock down guy whos always running around off screens and whatnot would be good tho, im sure thats what they picture nesmith doing but hes not ready yet

lag∞n, Friday, 12 February 2021 20:19 (three years ago) link

carsen has shown flashes of doing that i guess but seems unlikely hell ever be more than like an 8th man at best
