maybe there was some luck in the russell thing but it netted them one of the most valuable trade pieces in the league rn idk how that’s not considered a huge win for them

J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 February 2021 04:49 (three years ago) link

one could make the argument they should be flipping or packaging those picks (incl wiseman) for legit grown up dudes but they already have $174m on the payroll this year and $160m next so it's kinda rough. having so much money tied up in klay not a big help atm

Clay, Sunday, 14 February 2021 04:50 (three years ago) link

yeah i just haven't agreed with the process at all because even if it works it's going to waste a bunch of prime steph years.

Yah agree wiseman might work out but I’d rather have a solid vet or two to complement Steph. I thought getting anything for kd was awesome and dlo was the only way to match salary and he was pretty sought after that season since he was an all star. He was always tradable. Wiggins makes way more sense for the roster, he’s just overpaid, as stated. Luckily lacob doesn’t care about money (for now).

I still think they should package up wiseman and or the pick and retool around Steph n dray tho. The oubre trade was smart, hard to predict a guy forgetting how to shoot tho.

The only pick out of those that kinda worked was looney and paschall. Getting rotation dudes out of late picks is fine. Looney was really weirdly important vs the rockets when they were struggling vs them in the offs in 17-18.

Brad Wanamaker might be my least fav warrior of the last ten years tho.

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Sunday, 14 February 2021 05:31 (three years ago) link

i guess the question is a. can you get beal for wiseman + wolves pick b. can you actually win a title in the next 2-3 years with steph, klay, beal, wiggins, draymond and whatever bench you're able to cobble together. it feels like a steep price to pay to me.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 February 2021 07:03 (three years ago) link

i feel like they'll ultimately take the path of least resistance which is picking a young player to go w/ wiseman, extending steph to keep him a warrior and just playing it out w/ some fun seasons that don't really lead to serious title contention. and i'm not sure i would really blame them

J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 February 2021 07:11 (three years ago) link

Draymond gets 10% worse every year and klay might not play again. So idk what you do really. If Steph wasn’t the franchise icon you’d trade him I guess.

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 14 February 2021 15:14 (three years ago) link

yeah thats basically it. they committed for better or worse to the trio who got them to the summit of hoops mountain. and age is fucking them up hardcore. credit to the owners i guess for being willing to spend into oblivion to keep their team competitive and getting picks that position them for the post-stephdrayklay years.

class project pat (m bison), Sunday, 14 February 2021 15:36 (three years ago) link

they must be on the see how it looks next year plan

lag∞n, Sunday, 14 February 2021 15:38 (three years ago) link

if klay can play and be like 75% of his former self, theyll be p good.

class project pat (m bison), Sunday, 14 February 2021 15:53 (three years ago) link

if they get minnys pick this year theyll be in an interesting spot as trading it makes sense for the steph team but keeping it makes sense for post steph, which was i guess was the same situation they were in last draft except teams werent that stoked about that draft but teams are very stoked about this one

lag∞n, Sunday, 14 February 2021 16:07 (three years ago) link

They made a nice pick this year if they make a nice one again they’ll have something going. It’s not like you can’t win games with young guys

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 14 February 2021 16:16 (three years ago) link

yeah its true if you pick a future star theyre usually serviceable role player by year two

lag∞n, Sunday, 14 February 2021 16:28 (three years ago) link

i wld def lean towards making the pick, especially since theyve already got wiseman

lag∞n, Sunday, 14 February 2021 16:30 (three years ago) link

ive never heard anything about what sort of power steph has in the organization, got to think hes at least a little bit frustrated at this point

lag∞n, Sunday, 14 February 2021 16:34 (three years ago) link

crazy with the new lottery system the worst team has a less than 50% chance of landing in the top 3, its good this way imo more fun, not sure if its had the desired effect of stopping tanking tho the worst team still has the best odds and the highest floor

lag∞n, Sunday, 14 February 2021 16:37 (three years ago) link

minny currently has the worst record which would put them at 60% to get either the 4 or 5 pick, pretty sick for the warriors

lag∞n, Sunday, 14 February 2021 16:39 (three years ago) link

if they got the 4th pick in this draft they could actually hope within reason to get a player who could turn out to be as good as bradley beal, which i think would maybe make it untradeable. i’m not sure that’s quite true if it drops to 5 or 6.

He’s too nice/passive to pull a lebron

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Sunday, 14 February 2021 17:12 (three years ago) link

honestly he seems to be enjoying himself? no one ever talks about him leaving

J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 February 2021 17:18 (three years ago) link

As long as klay is still good it’s still the best situation for him

a nice controlled drift (Spottie), Sunday, 14 February 2021 17:20 (three years ago) link

his contract is up after next season, he’s extension eligible and hasn’t signed, and if he got traded to a contending team he could potentially flip the balance of the league... and there’s just zero talk of this happening at all. there must be no agitation coming from his side

J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 February 2021 17:20 (three years ago) link

Hmmmm idk I think the first tier extends to 6 this year

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 14 February 2021 17:31 (three years ago) link

even if the tier extends to 6, aren't the odds of picking someone who would turn out to be as good as beal (ie, a top 15ish player) pretty low? for a team that's rebuilding that's a gamble you take, but for a team with an MVP candidate and some other potential pieces it seems like the sort of thing you leverage for a sure thing of a current star

k3vin k., Sunday, 14 February 2021 18:05 (three years ago) link

I agree, I’m a huge Beal guy

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 14 February 2021 18:44 (three years ago) link

I think the nuggets need to get Beal tbh

Matt Armstrong, Sunday, 14 February 2021 18:52 (three years ago) link

it’s a really fascinating question! if they get a beal level talent in there at age 19 it’s prob more valuable to the franchise than getting the actual brad beal at age 27. it’s a gamble that you’re going to get that player, but it would also be a gamble to give up wiseman and the wolves pick for 2-3 more years of contention knowing that after thar you’re restarting your franchise from scratch with zero assets to speak of outside of your own picks. i think it would be an easier decision if this upcoming draft wasn’t abnormally loaded, but then again the pick has a 50/50 chance of rolling over at this point

J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 February 2021 19:19 (three years ago) link

i think the warriors trading for beal would be a bad idea

J0rdan S., Sunday, 14 February 2021 19:26 (three years ago) link

yeah, they are several pieces away from contending this year, and each year that follows they stray further from hoops god.

would love to see bradley in so many non-california places.

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 15 February 2021 05:23 (three years ago) link

Aww

After tonight's game, arguably Ricky Rubio's best of the season, Rubio spoke postgame about how his "spirit" was really down at the beginning of the season.

He credited one teammate for the shift in his spirit over the past few weeks... Anthony Edwards.

Anthony Edwards being a superstar would rule so much. Just the most gregarious guy who doesn’t take anything seriously. Too many great athletes are Tom Cruise in Collateral

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 15 February 2021 14:59 (three years ago) link

I have a feeling that in the right situation Blake would get back into one last training jag with the guy who wears a mask and have a good season

Matt Armstrong, Monday, 15 February 2021 20:45 (three years ago) link

Would be sad if he’s truly cooked at 31.
