Obviously we can only speculate on what Klay will look like but based on his track record pre-injury he's sort of in his own tier, more efficient than Dame/Harden and more volume than the Joe Harrises of the world. Maybe that would put him at #2, though I'd probably slot him in between Dame and Harden given how much he has benefited from his context playing off Steph. And yeah, Steph really is amazing. So happy we got to see him back to himself this past year.

yeah guys who create their own shots have to go ahead of spot up shooters like klay, klay is the best spot up shooter tho
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 September 2021 16:20 (three years ago) link
harden is frustrating cause hes such a great shooter but insists on taking only the most difficult shots
Harden basically breaks the algorithm, even now with however many years to imitate his thing, no one really plays like him. I'm not complaining. Glad Trae has shifted to a different track
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 9 September 2021 17:05 (three years ago) link
klay in his own tier for spot up shooter yeah
creators:
steph >>>>>>> Dame >> Harden >>> PG >> lavine > tatum >>>> fvv > trae > luka > mitchell > middleton >>> rozier > graham > beal > kemba
spot up:
klay >>> hield >> harris > d rob >> bertans > bojan
-harris kinda capped since hes on a team with 3 insane scorers, but he'd be up there otherwise. -Ingles has been amazing but not enough shot attempts really-JJ woulda been in that bottom list easily but finally got old and dropped off last season-we might have to add lonzo ball to this at some point lol-kat needs to shoot more threes?-cj belongs on one of these lists but not sure which one, he spots up and creates?

57% overall, if he can keep this up i will have no choice but to tip my cap
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 September 2021 18:07 (three years ago) link
interesting for their career their basically the same player in regard to shooting percentageshttps://stathead.com/tiny/7oUGP

― a talented ‘Rebel’ with Balls (Spottie), Thursday, 9 September 2021 18:11 (three years ago) link
oh yeah i misread that still much better than hes ever done before
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 September 2021 18:12 (three years ago) link
wow the offensive numbers are really identical. but once you look at defense even the numbers make it clear they're not the same tier of player (not to mention "playoffs" lol)
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 9 September 2021 18:31 (three years ago) link
yeah the defense makes a major difference. both need to keep improving their passing
― a talented ‘Rebel’ with Balls (Spottie), Thursday, 9 September 2021 18:41 (three years ago) link
feel like even tho their reg season numbers are the same tatums game is just so much more sound, and has more room to grow
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 September 2021 18:46 (three years ago) link
and yeah the defense is obvs wildly different
― lag∞n, Thursday, 9 September 2021 18:47 (three years ago) link
def more room to grow, other than that step backwards in year two when he was briefly enamored with kobe hero ball, he's been on a pretty consistent upward trajectory. lavine's career looks more like a plateau with an outlier this past year. but like you said, if he can sustain what he did this year, good on him
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Thursday, 9 September 2021 18:57 (three years ago) link
yah tatum has the 'it' factor.
lots of talking heads were excited about lavines team usa showing thinking it might springboard him into being a sound defender. would be cool but i have doubts.

Which defenders held opponents to the lowest FG% on shots within 6 feet from the rim? Per NBA Stats (min. 200 shots faced):1. Draymond Green 💪 (45.2%)2. Rudy Gobert (48.0%)3. Myles Turner (48.7%)4. Brook Lopez (49.3%)5. Daniel Gafford (49.6%) pic.twitter.com/84kFocY6Vz— BasketballNews.com (@basketbllnews) September 23, 2021

Noted prototypical NBA center Draymond Green doing prototypical NBA center things. On another note, his becoming a rim protector is old news at this point, but I can never help but notice just how bizarre a career trajectory Brook Lopez has had.
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Friday, 24 September 2021 01:41 (two years ago) link
yeah he was a top ten scorer the year the league only had nine guys average 20+

― um, i mean... im sure weve all seen the videos, so... that will help (Spottie), Wednesday, 29 September 2021 15:36 (two years ago) link
hes a really good scorer elite shooter and good rebounder, whether hell ever figure out the rest of the game is a pretty big question mark imo
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 29 September 2021 18:46 (two years ago) link
the athletic article i took that chart from was extremely critical of his defense and said his playmaking is basically non existent at this point
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 29 September 2021 18:47 (two years ago) link
also said re his scoring that he gets a lot of his looks via off ball play which is pretty cool, im sure many teams would be fine with having a 6-10 knockdown wing who can score without dominating the ball
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 29 September 2021 18:50 (two years ago) link
he's in a pretty great situation playing with a guy who is like a walking top 5 offense in the NBA. the playmaking aspect of his game may never need to be developed given his teammates, the defense is a different story tho
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 29 September 2021 18:54 (two years ago) link
being tall helps a lot like even duncan robinson is somewhat passable on defense just bcuz of his height, and he's shorter than NPJ and a worse athlete. but i'm curious how much of a physical pounding he will be able to give/take on defense given his back issues
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 29 September 2021 18:57 (two years ago) link
he should try to model a lot of his game after klay
