watched the Safdie Brothers doc about Lenny Cooke last night; it is a beautifully done bummer.

the difference between HS and the NBA is the difference between being senior class president or being POTUS.

it's really well edited. can't imagine how much shit they had to stumble through to capture this guy in perfect slacker mode.

4/92 extendo for aaron gordon
― a talented ‘Rebel’ with Balls (Spottie), Tuesday, 14 September 2021 20:08 (two years ago) link
i guess they prob had no choice after the trade. pretty surprised they gave him a player option
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 14 September 2021 21:19 (two years ago) link
yeesh. player option?
― call all destroyer, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 21:29 (two years ago) link
Really crazy money but I guess they’re sick of having to think about this position
― Matt Armstrong, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 22:48 (two years ago) link
just seems like they’re paying for the idea of it working before it actually does. sometimes this stuff works out but it’s scary
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 14 September 2021 23:29 (two years ago) link
yeah conceptually he seems like the right guy but he was pretty bad last year needs to do more stuff
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 23:36 (two years ago) link
yeah, if you're looking for further development i just don't think it's going to happen at this point
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 00:00 (two years ago) link
i think they'll continue to be a strong regular season team and he'll prob work fairly well for them in that context. but the playoffs are a different ball of wax so we won't really know until we know
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 September 2021 00:06 (two years ago) link
murray really needs to be playing for gordon to make sense
― mens rea activist (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 15 September 2021 04:01 (two years ago) link
They were willing to pay Jerami Grant 20m a year and Gordon is slightly better than Grant so I guess from their perspective it’s just a reload on that
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 13:44 (two years ago) link
is gordon better than jerami grant
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 September 2021 15:41 (two years ago) link
Yeah I think so. Grant is just such a bad rebounder
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 16:24 (two years ago) link
To be clear I think they’re both overpaid
― Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 16:27 (two years ago) link
Also Grant was a role player chafing against his role and wanting to be a centerpiece. Gordon has gone through the experience of Orlando trying and failing to make him a centerpiece, and is presumably excited to be more of a role player. Better living through team chemistry
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 18:11 (two years ago) link
imo theres def room for gordon to be better than he was last year just via getting to know the team/his role better joining midseason is tricky, also randomness
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 18:45 (two years ago) link
Some NBA news: There are a handful of Kyrie trades that potentially make sense for the Nets, Kyrie’s agents have made it known that Kyrie would simply *retire from the NBA* if Brooklyn were to trade him.— nick wright (@getnickwright) September 15, 2021

really curious what came up that caused kyrie's agents to even have to express that
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 18:52 (two years ago) link
yeah

i believe him
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:19 (two years ago) link
yeah were i an nba team i certainly wouldnt test it lol
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:20 (two years ago) link
i'm also honestly curious what kyrie trades are out there that actually make sense for the nets. it's not like they're in a position where they need to be recouping assets, they're all in. if KD plus one of the other two are healthy they're prob title favorites, if all three are healthy they're prob overwhelming favorites. they already have a plus plus shooter, already have one of the best wing players in the NBA... what's the trade that makes them better
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:25 (two years ago) link
unless they just feel like they can't rely on him to even show up which is a possibility but if that's the case it's hilarious that kyrie would box them in by just saying he's gonna retire if they trade him lmao
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:26 (two years ago) link
kyrie looked fuckin amazing last year when he was on the court
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:27 (two years ago) link
trading him for defense and depth kind of makes sense theoretically, also he is a known team cancer and obvs a huge wildcard and is never healthy, but yeah in the world you would never actually trade him
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:29 (two years ago) link
in a fantasy nba kyrie for simmons would be extremely interesting for both teams and for drama
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, September 15, 2021 3:26 PM (three minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink
otm lol feel like kyrie is planning on doing some wild extracurriculars this year, not that just not showing up repeatedly isnt already trade worth, what if hes secretly not cool w kd anymore, not hard to picture
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:32 (two years ago) link
i'm supposed to be prepping for a meeting but now i'm trying to figure out what kyrie trade is out there lol
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:43 (two years ago) link
maybe i'm overreacting but i just feel like simmons is a negative playoff player until proven otherwise
also for all the worry about the nets defense, it definitely wasn't an issue vs the bucks. maybe that's just cuz the bucks kinda play a clunky grind it out style in the playoffs but their defense didn't seem like a fatal flaw. maybe that's also bcuz they didn't have kyrie, harden, KD on the floor at once so they were a bit more tilted towards defense. but if i were them i'd just stay put
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:44 (two years ago) link
yeah the nets defense was fine, much better than i thought, but still kyrie is pretty redundant behind kd and harden and hes and injury prone lunatic, and nets would be the perfect fit for simmons he could just be large draymond
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:46 (two years ago) link
i mean the nets org must absolutely hate him, just not showing up to games is generally frowned upon in the nba, so much so it hardly ever happens, when was the last time a major guy was awol, rodman on the bulls?
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:49 (two years ago) link
well the sixers putting the fate of their franchise in kyrie’s hands would be hysterical
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:49 (two years ago) link
im saying its an interesting idea from many angles
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 19:52 (two years ago) link
I think Kyrie is a certified lunatic and I would trade Simmons for him in 2 secs.
― Taliban! (PBKR), Wednesday, 15 September 2021 21:05 (two years ago) link
yeah i mean philly isnt getting anyone else nearly as good
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 21:06 (two years ago) link
This is an underrated and hilarious timeline, agreed. If it ever happens, I'm gonna have to believe that the Sixers org has been optimizing for dangerously high blood pressure among talk radio callers all along and everything else has been secondary.
