one of the two sides is going to call the other’s bluff here… either the sixers are gonna drastically reduced their (reported) demands for simmons or simmons is gonna show up and play. bcuz everything the gossipy national reporters have been saying makes it seem like they aren’t close to a deal
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 21 September 2021 15:48 (three years ago) link
i feel like in most cases simmons could come back and play and ppl would get over it but i’m not sure that’s the case with philly fans
yeah lol
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 21 September 2021 15:50 (three years ago) link
soon they will build two unlicensed ben simmons merchandise shops on opposite sides of the same philly street. one shop is pro-Ben, and the other shop is anti-Ben. the city's population will absorb the expletive-laden tirades between the owners of the two shops into their own "identity".

Me after ATL GM 5:
Woke up this morning at 5am and couldn't stop thinking about the game last night. Just brutal.Simmons has to go. It was one thing when the debate was "why can't he shoot 3s?" Quite another when the debate is "why can't he shoot FTs?"― Vin Jawn (PBKR), Thursday, June 17, 2021 6:38 AM (three months ago) bookmarkflaglink

I think the Sixers should take a reasonable offer for Simmons and move on. I would agree with Morey that Heild and Bagley aren't a reasonable offer.
― Taliban! (PBKR), Tuesday, 21 September 2021 18:52 (three years ago) link
yeah I dunno, if it gets ugly they may have to take a deal similar to the Butler for Saric/Covington* deal the Wolves had to take, I don't think Heild/Bagley is far off that. Could argue that at least in the general public his stock is lower than Butler's was at the time
*Bayless and a 2nd round pick were thrown in too but who cares
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 22 September 2021 13:13 (three years ago) link
hield bagley is pretty clearly a lot worse than saric covington imho, also butler was an expiring contract where simmons is locked in for 4 years, i think philly will end up getting much more than what butler was traded for, hield haliburton + picks is prob more in the neighborhood, teams are trying to do some insane heist right now see how toxic philly can get but eventually someone will just step up with their real offer, i mean idk there may be a hield/haliburton type deal out there already and its philly thats holding out, in which case its everyone waiting on them to approach reality
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 13:40 (three years ago) link
at this point i feel like the kings would be kinda crazy to trade halliburton for simmons but they did just trade for tristan thompson so i guess nothing is out of the question
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 22 September 2021 15:05 (three years ago) link
idk the fact that theyre the kings makes the trade make less sense but also makes it more likely
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 15:13 (three years ago) link
i dont think trading a halliburton level player for simmons is unreasonable tho
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 15:14 (three years ago) link
i was the simmons skeptic when you all were declaring him a future mvp and now im his last defender lol
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 15:15 (three years ago) link
i would say the celtics should try to trade smart + picks and filler for him but he def doesnt have the celtics mindtype and prob shouldnt be exposed to another psycho northeast fanbase
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 15:19 (three years ago) link
lol look at you defending simmons.
― a talented ‘Rebel’ with Balls (Spottie), Wednesday, 22 September 2021 16:03 (three years ago) link
hes a good player, who should play center, and is kind of an unlikable headcase who isnt super passionate about basketball lol
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 16:08 (three years ago) link
i still think simmons can be very valuable but i do think you might need to build a team from the ground up around him to put him in the best position to succeed. i’m not sure him and fox make tons of sense together, your two best players not being able to shoot while having — hypothetically —traded your two best shooters in order to get him. i almost think like OKC or houston would be the best spot for him, put him somewhere with basically nothing in place with tons of assets and mold the team around him. i think the problem here is that it’s hard to find a place for him where the team receiving him gives up enough to satisfy the sixers while also still retaining enough so that ben isn’t trying to force a trade again in two years. like, if you’re the wizards and you cash in brad beal for simmons, you’re gonna suck again and have him wanting out of a place he didn’t want to be in the first place. maybe portland makes sense if they were able to not trade lillard. the way the NBA works now if you’re getting a guy with 4 years on his contract that basically means you have 2 seasons before he can really start to force your hand if he wants out.
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 22 September 2021 16:09 (three years ago) link
minnesota if you paired him and towns? but that’s two centers on the floor again so prob doesn’t work, and what do the wolves have to satisfy philly. it’s really hard to find a trade that works for both sides given how weird of a player he is. the celtics is actually an interesting one but it also kinda pushes time lord out of the picture & if you lose smart your guard rotation is perilous. this is why i return to places like OKC and houston where there’s basically a blank canvas. shai & ben fits to me i think
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 22 September 2021 16:13 (three years ago) link
xp what adds to the conundrum is if he does indeed end up in a place like Houston it would almost be harder to get him to remodel his game to match his strengths because it would be hard not to put the ball in his hands all the time. OKC is interesting because their key piece is Shai who is a ballhandler already
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 16:14 (three years ago) link
constructing a trade for him is difficult because teams would want to send a center back so that he can play center but philly already has a center so then youd have to try to put together a multi team deal which is complicated, but i do think a mccollum + nurkic for simmons and some ok player type deal with a third team in the mix makes sense
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 16:18 (three years ago) link
mccollum + nurkic for simmons won't happen, if only because mccollum + nurkic are the 2 & 3 players in the blazer "core" and olshey is convinced he's already built a team that can contend
― more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 22 September 2021 17:10 (three years ago) link
mccollum & nurk does feel like an overpay to me given the circumstances surrounding simmons at this point. but if you involve a 3rd team and nurk gets routed there for and both philly and portland get something else back, i could see it
― Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 17:16 (three years ago) link
he simply needs to be on a team where the other good players are guards/wings rather than an immobile center
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 17:19 (three years ago) link
i don't think its as hard to make him fit as people are making it sound
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 17:20 (three years ago) link
yeah he just needs to play center lol
― lag∞n, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 17:59 (three years ago) link
hoping this all ends like the Aaron Rodgers drama and he just stays in Philly and everyone acts like nothing happens
― frogbs, Wednesday, 22 September 2021 18:04 (three years ago) link
no we need to see him on another team.
― a talented ‘Rebel’ with Balls (Spottie), Wednesday, 22 September 2021 18:36 (three years ago) link
I usually just root for whatever outcome is the funniest so it's either Simmons for Kyrie or he just stays and does the George Costanza "oh you haven't heard of SARCASM!?" thing

There is no possible way this happens with the fanbase unless Simmons walks in and hits 5 3Ps in the first quarter of the season. And if he does, he better not go 3/10 from the line.

I think the Sixers can at least get an 6-8 seed without Simmons, so might as well let him sit a little if the offers aren't good. Good being good (like what was discussed just upthread), not like Lillard.
