the worst case scenario for the sixers is that they go into the playoffs with ben simmons on their team. they won't get out of the second round. i don't think that is even really debatable. the best case scenario is that they trade him. but his trade value isn't tied to anything he can do on the floor, it's tied to what happens with other teams around the league, and who might give a player up that the sixers want based on how that team's season is going. so pay simmons to stay away from the team until you trade him, even if it goes into next offseason. the only obstacle to this extremely logical scenario is the sixers wanting to set some useless "precedent"

Collusion isn't legal, but it happens often enough. Look at Colin Kaepernick.

yeah & the NFL paid him a settlement to avoid being dragged into discovery. kaepernick was also in his 30s, hadn't been very good for a while, and didn't have a contract. ben simmons is 25 and is guaranteed $112 million over the next three seasons after this one. not really comparable scenarios

its true but any QB who was half decent within the last decade can still get a backup job somewhere. its hard to blame Kaep for his poor performance that last year when the coach and half the team left

I mean was it really collusion? my impression is that no team wanted the backlash since conservatives are the biggest babies on the planet. they're not like us liberals who are used to being disappointed all the fucking time. if his stats hadn't taken a downturn it would've been pretty damn interesting though

Coming up with a somewhat believable story is child's play if the evidence is buried. The settlement was designed to bury the evidence and cover their tracks. So, presumably yes it was collusion.

In 2012/3 Kaep is passing to Crabtree, Vernon Davis, and Boldin (in 2013), Frank Gore is his RB, Jim Harbaugh is coach. Pretty legit group. In 2016 he's passing to Quinton Patton and Jeremy Kerley and his coach is Chip Kelly. He still had a 16/4 TD INT somehow in that last season. I'd like to have seen what he could have done with a better opportunity.

I agree Morey is probably saying there is a 2% chance he can get a star for Simmons. I don't see it right now, but he might do better than we all think if another team gets desperate or the standings continue being weird and someone like Cleveland thinks they can make a playoff push.

Otherwise I see him dumping Simmons at the deadline for what he can get.

i haven’t seen any of the pelicans this year but i wonder if, aside from everything else going wrong with them, they also made another bad coaching hire
