ramon sessions in 2017 strikes me as particularly bleak. allonzo trier, too, because wtf were they doing with him as a point guard. shane larkin, starting pg??? toney douglas????

yea I was surprised Sessions was even still in the league at that point. I assumed he went from backup to out of the NBA in the couple of years since that second stint for the Bucks but nope, there he was starting again

knicks in 2017 was pretty functionally close to "out of the nba"

I liked Shane Larkin in that Wes Anderson movie.

his dad is reds legend barry larkin, which is pretty cool

I just thought his name sounded less like a basketball player and more like a doughy white comedian or something.

chris duhon is not the saddest name on this list and was downright serviceable compared to many of these guys, but he deserves special mention for arriving on the knicks together with mike d'antoni, fresh out of phoenix, and being the focus of a ton of press about how dan tony was going to unlock duhon who was going to slide right into the role of the seven seconds or less nash. that was one of the funnier preseason news cycles

forgot that ray felton was their starting PG in non-consecutive seasons, that's pretty fucked up. hope dude got help for his drinking problem.

brimstead, Wednesday, 3 June 2026 06:20 (yesterday)

in any case had to go with allonzo trier, a man who started four (4) games in his nba career, of which the season opening start that got him into this poll was the last. but i mean he did manage to play 23 more games that season before permanently washing out of the rotation and then the league, so

Lavator Shemmelpennick, Wednesday, 3 June 2026 06:26 (yesterday)

i remember being excited about allonso trier

the manda-whore-ian and hoe-gu (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 3 June 2026 11:26 (yesterday)

i voted trier too cause he was the only one i straight up just did not recognize the name, toney douglas close second couldnt tell you anything about him just some vague knowledge that ive heard the name before

lag∞n, Wednesday, 3 June 2026 12:52 (yesterday)

felton starting in non-consecutive makes me think that he was the starter and was hurt. so douglas might not fully count.

to give trier some credit, he was a pretty good 4 year player at arizona

the manda-whore-ian and hoe-gu (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 3 June 2026 13:39 (yesterday)

definitely not an nba point guard in any way shape or form

the manda-whore-ian and hoe-gu (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 3 June 2026 13:40 (yesterday)

elfrid payton is also kinda sad because they actually made the playoffs that year haha, and that’s what they were working with (rookie year quickley and geriatric d rose did mix in)

the manda-whore-ian and hoe-gu (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 3 June 2026 13:42 (yesterday)

im kind of an eldrid fan weird player had some crazy big games and hot streaks couldnt shoot at all had some nice pure point skills

lag∞n, Wednesday, 3 June 2026 13:44 (yesterday)

yea he would’ve been awesome in the 60s

the manda-whore-ian and hoe-gu (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 3 June 2026 13:59 (yesterday)

or even the 90s

lag∞n, Wednesday, 3 June 2026 14:18 (yesterday)

i feel like a normal team in a stretch like this would have at some point drafted a promising point guard and let him start opening day, even if it was kind of rocky at first. beyond maybe duhon and felton these guys were all either cooked or never credible nba starters to begin with.

circles, Wednesday, 3 June 2026 15:07 (yesterday)

voted for sessions because wtf were they even getting at there

the manda-whore-ian and hoe-gu (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 3 June 2026 15:22 (yesterday)

nope, felton actually wasn't on the team that year! bref tells me he sandwiched a year in portland in between 2 knicks stint, maybe he was an exchange student or something

that being said, looks like 5 different PGs started for the knicks that season, 3 of them more than douglas, who started 9 (iman shumpert 35 games, jeremy lin 25, baron davis 14, mike bibby 4)

i think that must have been the linsanity year so actually one of the most exciting pre-brunson knicks pg years
