I don't think Pennsylvania quite gets the point of issuing licenses to people???

Allyzay will never stop making pancakes (allyzay), Monday, 19 June 2006 16:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I think the deal is you have to wait a year before you can get a license- during that time you have a permit and have to wear a helmet. Also, you can't beer in less than case quantity outside of a bar.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the previously mentioned blog circuit:

Did Derrick Brooks suffer some sort of major head trauma after last October? His blog posts get somewhat less sophisticated after that point.

On Friday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, sans "Drink Like A Champion" T-shirt, will make his first public appearance since his motorcycle accident a month ago, on "Good Morning America" with Robin Roberts.

laurence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 13 July 2006 13:06 (seventeen years ago) link

"Roethlisberger underwent seven hours of surgery to repair a broken jaw and other facial bones. Tests showed no brain injuries, although he had a mild concussion. He also lost two teeth and chipped several others."

No road rash or contusions on his jaw; he looks fine. If this guy has any common sense, he'll start doing a series of public service announcements to wear a helmet rather than two stepping as he did in the Rome interview.

'06-'07 PITTSBURGH STEELERS
SAVING FACE IN YOUR FACE

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 14 July 2006 19:17 (seventeen years ago) link

PITTSBURGH — Ben Roethlisberger said he doesn't plan on doing public safety announcements for motorcycle or helmet safety following his accident last month.

"I don't think that's my place," the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback said in a taped interview aired Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"Some people feel that, you know, I probably should be doing that and being a big advocate for that," Roethlisberger said from Los Angeles. "But for me, I'm going to let people make their own decisions ... So I don't think you'll see me doing any kind of billboards or advertisements."

Wow. What a game. 1st the million dollar question I have been asked? Did I mean to hit VIck late or out of bounds? And the answer is NO. I was running as hard as I could to get there to make sure what happen right before Halftime didnt happen again. So thats what happen it just happen so fast I had no time to adjust. Its a part of the game and some calls or close but because it was VIck, things get blown up.

Another take on the QB Challenged referenced all those eons ago by Big Ben:

QB Challenge is Competitive
05/12/05

Last year was my first year competing in the Quarterback Challenge and I think I was more nervous than anything. But it's a laid back atmosphere and I've had the chance to visit with some of the other guys that are here. Usually I only get to see these guys for 5 or 10 minutes and it's after a game when you don't really have time for more than a little chat. Out here it's more relaxed and you can get to know them a little bit more and see what they are like off the football field. It's been a lot of fun. I can't really say I have too much strategy or gameplan for the drills but there is one - the two minute drill - that I have some ideas for. I did OK with it last year but Matt Hasselbeck had the advantage of having done it before. But this year I know what to expect and I found out what to do. There are some great Hall of Fame quarterbacks out here like John Elway and Dan Marino. I haven't had a chance to talk to them too much yet. I spoke with Dan and Bernie Kosar a little bit yesterday but I hope to speak with those guys more as the week goes on. It's great to be around those guys. When I was growing up were my idols and those guys are legends. I look at them in a different light.

wtf was Bernie Kosar doing there and why didn't security do something about this?

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Thursday, 12 April 2007 04:12 (seventeen years ago) link

From reading Ben's blog it looks like Herc is trying to supplant Zeus as first in line to the throne.

brownie, Thursday, 12 April 2007 12:41 (seventeen years ago) link

The NFL is a heartless league and Herc is a young up and comer. Don't blame the player, blame the game.

three weeks pass...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2860426&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab1pos2

Two days after Tara met him, she spent a few very awkward, if memorable, hours on a date with "Big Ben"; hours she'd like to undo. Their activities included traveling to the Steelers' training facility, where the security guard who never stops anyone waved at the faux quarterback, letting him through to attend to "some business" while Tara sat in the car; signing a Steelers jersey for Tara's giddy neighbor and posing for a photo; telling her about his dog, Zeus, over a dinner she ended up paying for because he left his wallet somewhere; and an uncomfortable encounter in which he tried to touch her hand and lean in for a kiss, which freaked her out, because she wasn't attracted to him anyway.

félix pié, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 00:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't believe he dragged Zeus into this. Has he no shame?

brownie, Tuesday, 8 May 2007 13:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Although I must confess, I carry a picture of Zeus around with me that has resulted in ridic action.
