Miami's handling of Tua has been abysmal and Stephen Ross is a disgrace of an owner. and if we trade Tua and we get DeShaun Watson, I am done.
even ignoring the football stupidity of it (you know he's going on the exempt list as soon as anybody *tries* to play him, and the defense and offensive line will still suck and lose us games), yes, let's trade for the guy who has had 20+ women come forward with accusations of sexual impropriety. that's a good message to send to your female fanbase.

Always had a bad gut feeling on Tua as an NFL qb
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 21 October 2021 16:14 (two years ago) link
thing is I don't think he's played badly at all. this year he's played in two full games, and only lasted a series and a half against Buffalo before being knocked out with injury. his numbers weren't spectacular vs New England, but it was enough to win, and he was moving the ball at will against Jax (only real big misstep was the late game INT).
but i'd rather have Akili Smith playing then let Watson on my team considering what he's accused of currently :/
― Gardyloominati (Neanderthal), Thursday, 21 October 2021 18:02 (two years ago) link
I cannot believe anyone should be stupid enough to trade for Watson considering the circumstances. I don't think even Snyder is that f'n dumb, but these are NFL owners and they seem to be general scum on the top end of the equation.

Remember when Ja'Marr Chase was being called a bust in pre-season?
Remember when the Panthers were 3-0? Lose to the Giants, WTF...?
It's just a matter of time until Nagy gets fired and I kinda did not like that dude going in, but I got a feeling Fields is what he is and that is a good college QB. I'll be really surprised if he gets all that much better even if they do get the O-line fixed. I wasn't sold when they drafted him and so far, he looks pretty much lost to me.
Burrow has some really nice touch, he's a very accurate passer.

Got to admit I paused that one and took a couple of minutes looking at the names. Took me awhile to find Bernie Kosar but he was in there. It is a hilarious list of names for old school football fans.
You got a mix of eras of football with some serious old school guys like Steve DeBurg, Tommy Kramer and Steve Grogan. Trying to figure out who the 'newest' player in the yard might be. I kept hoping that Peyton Manning or Drew Brees or Tommy GOAT were in there as they overlapped a bit with Bruce but I did not see them. I guess the newest school would be Sexy Rexy Grossman or Matt Hasselbeck.
And of course David Carr is in there, dude was sacked like 200 times his first couple years in the league.

Cards weren't going to win them all. Losing Watt hurts, but it was only a matter of time. If they stay relatively healthy, they'll have a shot. The offense has so many weapons and the defense is really strong as well. Playmakers everywhere.

They probably would’ve won if AJ Green turned his head around. That said taking the TD off the board was just weird, may have been the “correct” call but idk if it’s one I’ve actually seen them make before. Didn’t look like there was any good angle on it but I guess they found one. Crazy the Cards made so many awesome plays on that drive (including miraculously avoiding a safety) only to lose it like that, such a weird sport sometimes

in typical Miami fashion, Tua and company go on a pretty good drive, stall out just outside the red zone, kick a 36 yard field goal, which the kicker shanks terribly to the right.

This Vikings team is so frustrating they just can't close
Looked up the terms of the Stafford trade cuz I couldn't remember
2 1sts1 3rdGoff
That might be one of the best trades in history if Stafford keeps it up, which there's no reason to believe he won't

Cousins is definitely at that frustrating level where he's mediocre most of the time but will put up like 400 yards & 3 TDs against a division rival once or twice a season, I can kinda see why the Vikings haven't moved on...yet
fun stat about last night's game - on 8 3rd downs in a row the Vikings ran a pass play in which Cousins did not throw past the first down line
really just an incredible loss for Minnesota, you were at home during primetime vs. Dallas's not very good backup QB, the refs were giving you tons of tick tack calls, you got two turnovers in crucial spots, and it's basically a must-win game...they had so many chances to do ~something~
― frogbs, Monday, 1 November 2021 18:35 (two years ago) link
yeah i definitely wasn't on the "Rams won that trade" boat at first as I really felt that Goff was being underrated as a QB, but as of right now, Rams are totally winning the trade, and Stafford is playing out of his mind. hard to not smile at that too.
― the utility infielder of theatre (Neanderthal), Monday, 1 November 2021 19:03 (two years ago) link
yeah Cousins is insanely frustrating
basically under ideal circumstances, he has the ability to be great - good protection, clean pocket, receivers getting separation, etc. i've seen him throw some incredible passes.
however, being able to do it under non-ideal circumstances is kinda..the whole deal.
but yes, he's a real quandary in terms of "ok well tell me who we are going to go out and get that's better?" - it's not like players of Stafford's caliber aren't on the market that often
just looked it up and he's got the highest QBR of any QB who's thrown more than 200 passes, second in overall yards to Brady
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 1 November 2021 20:09 (two years ago) link
I hate to say it, but I just think Dallas is loaded for bear this year. They seemed to have fixed the sieve of a defense and that big o-line is healthy again.
Cousins is good but just not quite good enough. I'd say he is a bit better but not totally similar to Andy Dalton, who put up some big games and numbers at times for the Bengals but seemed to wilt when the really big games happened. Bengals really could never get totally over B-more or Pittsburgh in their division. Perhaps not as big on the passing numbers, but Alex Smith was the same way in KC, very efficient but not really able to get them over the top either.
Hatcats have gone 19-37 since they decided to pass. Got to think the Vikings for all those skills players and defensive prowess would have probably been kinda similar without him.
Damned if you do have him and definitely damned if you don't.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 2 November 2021 01:48 (two years ago) link
NFL is weird though, explain why Tom Brady is having fits with NO. Saints won yesterday with Trevor Siemian, who had not really played much in 3 years. Siemian looked pretty decent too.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 2 November 2021 01:51 (two years ago) link
Vikings are in a similar boat as Bengals. They got one team in division with the Packers that are almost always there at the top and they pretty much fight for 2nd every year with the Bears. Minnesota has a hard time getting it all together at once, one year their defense is good and then one year their offense is good and then one year they are awesome and then special teams or something stupid happens.
How many wins would the Bears have had if they EVER had someone like Cousins? When your best for the last 30 years is Jimmy Mac and Jay Cutler - you suck. Bears pretty much have to win ugly to win.
― earlnash, Tuesday, 2 November 2021 01:57 (two years ago) link

lol yeah i was like . . . me too
i don't think it's fair to call the stafford trade 'the best(/worst) in history' (that is the herschel trade, fwiw).
if the rams win this year, then okay, because flags fly forever. but given the choice of going 0-8 with a bunch of picks + goff or 2-6 (at best) with stafford, i'll take the former. perhaps they could have gotten more, but it wasn't a bad deal for detroit.
(granted, the lions will blow those draft picks -- because they're the lions -- but still)
and if the rams *don't* win this year, stafford is suddenly 34 and more prone to aging like eli/roffles than he is to aging like brady.

Lol mookie trust me you don't have to remind me about the Herschel walker trade believe me

Just crazy, teams value draft picks way too much now, and obviously the way rookie contracts are structured now it would be pretty much impossible to get this kind of hall for any player. jesse solomon and ike holt were good players too..3 firsts and 3 seconds, dang
jesse solomon, ike holt and david howard were solid players too, was reading their wikis and this deal kind of fucked up their careers because when they got to dallas, johnson kept them on the bench because he wanted to cut them to get the picks

it is kind of insane how prized top-tier running backs were back then, like they truly could be the difference maker, so you could see teams overspending for one. RB stock really dropped a lot in the last decade in the NFL given the drift to pass-happy offenses due to the QB renaissance.
― the utility infielder of theatre (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 2 November 2021 17:16 (two years ago) link
Yeah I mean you *might* have been able to get this for Mahomes after he won the Super Bowl but I'd guess you'd be hard pressed to get a #1 for any running back now
― Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 2 November 2021 17:38 (two years ago) link
I was just wondering the other day why you so rarely see franchise running backs like Adrian Peterson anymore, then Derrick Henry got injured and I guess I got my answer. I don't know if linebackers are just that much bigger and faster than they were 20 years ago but it does seem like you can't just feed it to your guy 30+ times a game like you could in the Priest Holmes days. Though if you read the stories of what Priest's life is like now...yikes
― frogbs, Tuesday, 2 November 2021 17:44 (two years ago) link
Until this year, the Vikings and Dalvin Cook... maybe Carolina and McCaffrey, but yeah building an offense around the running back is rare now
Plus they usually only get the second contract then after that are just scrapping around the league
