feel like every lions season they had sanders they had to win out their last three games to make the playoffs and save their coaches job and they always did it then lost in the first round

This is extremely unlikely but damn it would be the most hilarious thing

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/21863467/teams-complain-nfl-green-bay-packers-violated-ir-rule-think-aaron-rodgers-released

Multiple teams complained to the NFL last week that the Packers violated the rules regarding players who are eligible to be placed on injured reserve -- and that Green Bay should have to release quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a result, league sources told ESPN.

NFL rules stipulate that a player needs to have suffered a new injury that would sideline him at least six weeks to be placed on injured reserve. If that is not the case, the team is obligated to release the player once he is healthy.

Belichick have naked pictures of a replay official or something? Holy hell.

frogbs, Sunday, 24 December 2017 20:06 (six years ago) link

I’m on my second bottle of wine btw; gonna send this tab to the refs

horseshoe, Sunday, 24 December 2017 20:45 (six years ago) link

thought it probably wasn't a TD but was amazed that they overturned the original call

Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 24 December 2017 21:03 (six years ago) link

by rule, the patriots do not allow touchdown catches

mookieproof, Sunday, 24 December 2017 21:33 (six years ago) link

it's a heuristic more than a rule

poor eli

mookieproof, Monday, 25 December 2017 00:11 (six years ago) link

NFC playoff layout as of now is pretty interesting, too bad it is probably just a setup to get beat by NE in the Superbowl.

earlnash, Monday, 25 December 2017 01:16 (six years ago) link

feel like maybe replay officials shd only be allowed to go to a certain level of slowmo

lag∞n, Monday, 25 December 2017 04:13 (six years ago) link

As much as I'd like to see them win again, NE looks fairly beatable in the playoffs.

Moodles, Monday, 25 December 2017 13:54 (six years ago) link

Moodles, Monday, 25 December 2017 13:54 (six years ago) link

Who is going to beat the Pats? Steelers in Gillette? Jags? I would think anything less than getting to the Superbowl would be a let down. They are not anywhere near the best of the Pats teams or anything over the past decade or so, but the league is pretty mushy these days on good teams.

Eagles would probably be the big favorite if old boy hadn't got hurt, as they do look pretty good all the way around.

One of those NFC South could get hot and go to the Superbowl. Vikings are pretty good all the way around, so maybe they make it their year. I'd be good with that scenario myself. I'd like to have bet 20 on the Rams going to the Superbowl way back around the draft, that might turn out to be a pretty good payoff if it happens and it is still a long shot at this point.

feel like almost all "great" RBs either feel overrated because of where they played (Bettis, E. Smith) or supremely talented but somehow unsatisfying careers (Adrian Peterson, Barry Sanders)

Joan Digimon (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 25 December 2017 23:27 (six years ago) link

I have a decent amount of confidence in the Vikings ability to turn the Superbowl into a dreary 21-13 slugfest that everyone outside the home markets stops watching

Joan Digimon (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 25 December 2017 23:29 (six years ago) link

8-for-17, 51 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT

7 sacks for -42 yards

mookieproof, Tuesday, 26 December 2017 04:06 (six years ago) link

make that 2 INTs

There is a certain sweetness to read about a bunch of Cowboys hand wringing. It is good when not is all going well in Jerrahworld. It's funny that their stadium is the ultimate neutral site, even for the Cowboys. I'll be kind of surprised if Garrett gets fired, but man, he might kind of wish he does.

It's also hilarious that the Hatcats have screwed around and probably going to lose their QB. It's been a LONG LONG time since even a decent QB changed teams. I got to think Cousins is going to Denver, that makes way too much sense. They still have some picks and some good players. Got to wonder, would this had finally been the time and place for Wade Phillips to have been a head coach? Dude that defense really tuned up. Don't know.

Kinda curious in where Bruce Arians goes. If he leaves AZ, which he probably should - I got to think the Colts or Broncos might give him a call.

earlnash, Tuesday, 26 December 2017 23:25 (six years ago) link

Remember when wade was a not great head coach in denver? So. Long. Ago.

not a great washington team this year --> 7-9

has there ever been a playoff bound bye team as dead man walking as the philadephia eagles

Wide open first round draft pick Corey Coleman drops easiest pass of his career on 4th down in Steelers territory to seal Browns loss.

Uh Mordy remember the year when people were seriously suggesting trying to talk Brett Favre out of retirement so he could start for the Cardinals in the playoffs in lieu of their truly awful 3rd stringer

frogbs, Sunday, 31 December 2017 21:15 (six years ago) link

But yeah Philly is screwed

frogbs, Sunday, 31 December 2017 21:16 (six years ago) link

congrats to the Browns on this historic season

Vikings... who knows, I thought they'd be 8-8 this year, defense should really scare ppl though I'm not as sold on Keenum as many

Agreed. Even Red Zone can’t make these games seem exciting, either, despite all of the hot air the announcers are blowing.

brownie, Monday, 1 January 2018 00:53 (six years ago) link

Lol cincy, nice.

the playoff absence of Seattle, Dallas, and GB is a late Xmas gift for NFL fans.

NFC is anyone's guess now that Philly has come back down to earth but they could still make the SB.

NE out of the AFC I'm sure.

omar little, Monday, 1 January 2018 01:29 (six years ago) link

BILLS IMO

horseshoe, Monday, 1 January 2018 18:36 (six years ago) link

I kinda don't think Hue Jackson is nearly as bad a head coach as his 1-31 record would indicate, but it's a number that is impossible to live down.

John McKay lost a ton of games with the Bucs, but he had won 4 national titles at USC, so he gets a pass.

Kinda surprised that Jim Caldwell got the boot in Detroit. I always a bit suspect of him in Indy, but really I think he did about as good as possible with what he had with the Lions. Did anyone really pick the Lions to be any better than 9-7?
