if a poster on the board wishes death on a sick poster and isn't temp banned, what exactly gets you a temp ban these days?

generally speaking, someone with the power to ban would need to see the post

If you want to someone to be banned, you should go ahead and ask for it and link to the offending post rather than asking why the mods haven't read your mind yet.

1. for the millionth time, the change from sb to fp was a 100% rhetorical change. the issue was that suggest ban sounds aggro, and flag post sounds less so. it is the exact same system! the success is in the fact that people use it differently because of the connotations, but the under the hood aspect is exactly the same, when someone gets 51, they get banned.
2. nah one is specific to me, and the other is a generalized issue that seems to have come up a lot recently

well i was a bit pissed that it had been 5 hours and nothing had been done about something that was incredibly gross & plainly bannable

anyway john's explanation is valid & amateurist is banned now so it's all water under the bridge as far as i'm concerned

It would be different if that post was made on a thread about suicide or depression, or addressed to a poster who has openly posted about struggles with ideation and mental illness ... similar to the calzino stabbing thing -- it's bad precedent, though the initial mod impulse is understandable. I'm just requesting that this be a temp-ban or (ideally imo) a yellow card. Like, I'm not going "fuck mods" about this ...

I posted in the Admin Log Watch thread but I'll post here too - I've checked out the context, and while I honestly couldn't tell if it was poorly-rendered gallows humour or a seriously aggressive post (it was a bad post either way), I'm in favour of this not being a permaban. Unless they're an old user in a new name, they don't have much history here and most of their posts are perfectly innocuous, so a temp ban seems preferable.

i've luckily never struggled with depression, but i have many friends and family members who have. ilx has documented at least one suicide attempt and plenty of suicidal ideation. there is a way to do gallows humor without crossing a line which should be pretty obvious to most intelligent people.
