Tired?

We had a puncture in the driver's rear a few weeks ago, but 5k of tread left all around, so had it plugged. It blew out yesterday, on the freeway. ("Is that a helicopter over us? What is that noise? Change lanes maybe it's the surface?") We're limited to 2 tire choices for the Prius, they're 14s but require a higher sidewall rating due to the weight of the car. But now there's a full new set of General's on it and we should be good for 65k.

Stepson asks though, why aren't car tires like bike tires w/ red or blue or leopard spotted sidewalls built right in instead of painted on?

Also, those weird spinning spoke things, s/d?

I've budgeted myself to pick up some tires later this month and was thinking of ordering directly from the Tire Rack. I've never done it before, but their reviews/service has been good.

We went to D1sc0unt Tire - they wanted to sipe the tires (extra $$). I said no, meant to check what the hell this is about. Free rotations and repairs and not too much extra for a full replacement warranty if a punctured tire can't be plugged.

Looks like just saying no was probably right: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/sipe/

These are all weather radials, no doubt pre-siped.

Don't forget Costco.

I have an irrational disgust of Costco. I can't explain it. Maybe because I am anti-crowd and anti-cavernous-warehouse. I feel the same about Frye's.

The tire sales area is usually separate.

Do you still have to have a membership card and all that?

Oh, we'd be a great shopping team then :)

what is hilarious: i completely forgot i had one, or i would have offered myself! yes, of course, jaq. except you got your tires already, didn't you? well, next time.

lxy, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 15:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, got 'em in Oly so we wouldn't have to drive all the way back to Seattle on the fake spare (at 50 mph). Costco would be handy before the next all-Seattle croquet FAP though!

lotsa lotsa toilet paper would make sense

As a tire???

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 9 May 2007 18:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Stuff it in the airspace for a quieter ride?

To compensate for bad thread derail, I give you this slick mustang with Cragar SST wheels. (no image sharing code? oh well, worth a click.)
