I grew up in the vicinity of one of the longest-running rallies in the US, the P.O.R. (later the Lake Superior Rally). As such, I've always had a soft spot for this brand of motorsport. The WRC level is interesting, but not nearly as compelling as some of the lower-level championships like the Finnish F-cup or some of the more grassroots level American stuff. There is still the romanticized ideal of some guy in a knocked-together car going out and competing and having fun, but it looks like insurance and associated costs are going to eventually drive out the little guy here in the US. Still, It's a dream to give it a shot sometime, maybe if I find a sack of money in the street...

So, what says you, I Love Cars, with regard to rallying?

I don't know much about it to be honest. Love pics of old Audi's and Lancia's and newer pics of the Japanese cars. Off to wikipedia...

I used to love the WRC.

search: 'climb dance' of course, the mentalism of group B, that story about timo salonen smoking fags during long special stages in corsica and finland during his world championship year, any car with a martini paint job.

destroy: homogenisation of events to fit TV schedules.
