currently watching stage 1 of the tour down under, first time all stages have been on tv here. phil and paul on commentary duties being as useless as ever, calling jj rojas as winner of intermediate sprint, while totally ignoring thomas de gendt cruising past him.

cav won first stage of tour de san luis overnight, too.

Huh yeah i read that earlier I remember trying racing for like a month on 40cm (I like 43 c-c or even 44) and hating it. Cant imagine 38s. Xpost

I want to go from 42 to 44 on the BMC, I have 44 on my in town bike, my chest feels so much more open.

Lotto looked like Highroad at their very best. I'd have loved to have seen the Tour San Luis Finish. The duelling sprint trains of Lotto and Omega Pharma may well be a theme this year. Good to see Arnaud Demare place as well, a French guy contesting sprints is something we haven't see a lot of recently.

geirant thomas blazes away from all comers on the day's last climb, then kicks away from three pursuers in the sprint. pretty impressive.

phinney creeping up through the last bend was a surprise, they'd reported that he'd quit earlier.

They'd said Chavanel had quit too (which was clearly not the case). If Stannard had won that would have been incredible: there was a moment in the last 2k when he attacked again and it looked like Cancellara and Sagan might just watch each other.

stannard was inspired, i thought he might just snake away there.

Apparently stannard was running on Mechanical gears and broke his cable so he was stuck in the 11 cog after the Poggio.

I think everyone watched that last attack wondering about his gearing, no wonder then.

Today's Scheldeprijs coverage featured a slow motion clip of Mark Cavendish's partner and former page three model Peta Todd jumping up and down. Somehow i found this more gratuitous than Sagan's arse grabbing

Pre Giro and ToC, Columbia were second in the World Tour Rankings. They'll almost certainly be top afterwards.

I guess the tendency towards steeper and steeper parcours really benefits columbians.

Only a wee hill today (still HC) and Froome hauled back Valverde and Contador attacked and won.

Barring accident I can't see past a tour podium that has Froome, Porte and a spaniard on it in that order.
