Not long after a friend of mine turned 50 he went to the eye doctor, and his eye doctor told him he needed reading glasses. "Really?" said my friend. Apparently the eye doctor put his hand on my friend's shoulder and said "You've had a good run."
I vaguely recall being in my '20s and people saying, man, enjoy it while it lasts, because things change in your '30s. Then in my '30s, it was "look out for your '40s." A few weeks ago I turned 49, and now I hear 55 is the magic inflection point, but I've been doing OK. Don't need readers yet, healthy, happy enough. It's quite amazing how the age scale keeps shifting, it's surreal. I used to think 40 was old, then 50 was old, then 60 was old. Sometimes I wonder if all it took was society realizing that smoking and drinking and red meat were really bad for you and to try and keep that shit in check.

Neck pain is frequently the result of years of bad posture. Holding your phone down on your chest/abdomen and craning your neck down to look at it can be a contributing factor. Try holding the phone away from you and closer to head height. Hard to remember but it actually makes a difference if you are on your phone a lot.

Was gonna post this on the Hello Nasty thread but seems better here: I recently was driving my 12 & 13y/o nephews and looking for something to play that they might like, noticed the Hello Nasty CD and thought "oh yeah, slam dunk, this will be right in the strike zone for two silly boys that age who are just starting to get interested in music". They both hated it so much, "WHAT is this CRAZY NOISE?", etc. I explained to them that the disc we were listening to was actually once belonged to their mother, purchased on the day it came out in 1998 and well loved for many years, and they straight up did not believe me. "Yeah right, nice try! Mom would NEVER listen to anything like this!" I am here in this thread to say that I felt, at that moment, like an ILXor in my forties.

so last night I offered to help a few of my closest friends move. their new place is on the third floor, a winding staircase (similar to one I lived at ten years ago).
idk if it's just that I'm older and more out of shape or what, but within an hour my knees were buckling from the constant carrying of things up that staircase. this morning, I'm having trouble standing up due to the knee pain.

xp Just like the first minute or so of "Super Disco Breakin" - I honestly dont think they totally understood that it was even a song at first, and they were just incredulous that this crazy chaotic nonsense was music that people would listen to & enjoy. Its funny bc I wasn't trying to score cool points or "teach them about good music" or anything like that, just naively thinking "this will be an easy, unremarkable choice for everyone". They have a fairly limited media diet but they hear pop radio and are aware of & enjoy acts like Imagine Dragons, Lil Nas X, etc, but I didnt fully appreciate how they still seemed to have no frame of reference for something that sounds like that.
