The first time I heard Blind Idiot God's 'shifting sands'( about some stupid 20 years ago)I had never heard anything like it. It was an extension of Husker's rendition of ''8 miles High'
My attraction for these tunes must lie in what? The unresolved chords? The beautiful lack of answers. Do You know what I mean?
My Bloody Valentine, Aphex Twin, M 83, Cockney Rejects etc

(And Blind Idiot God were also more interesting than Dub Trio, too.)

Searched for years for a copy of Undertow for a friend, that thing was damned hard to find. So if you happen across a BIG record, snap it up!

We are all 'Shifting Sands 'and it's pointless

I keep hoping a new record will appear, but nothing yet.

Found Undertow LP for five quid a few months back, didn't get into it as much as I hoped I would

spent a while in the late 80s fighting what felt like a lone doomed battle trying to get ppl in the UK to hear how great BIG were
drawbacks: A: i think the sound at their liveshows could be very hit-and-miss and venue- and mixdesk-dependent B: andy hawkins was a lovely person but not a particularly helpful interview (or at least i found no way to draw him out that turned into a good writing abt the band)
UNDERTOW and BEFORE AFTER EVER are on spotify, but not CYCLOTRON or the SST debut (which i think probably remains my favourite)

I believe plans are in the works to remaster and reissue the debut and Cyclotron. There's supposedly another new album in the works, too.

The first BIG is awesome, as is Before Ever After. I also really like the Azonic album from this year, Hawkins' ambient-"orchestral doom" side project (also featuring the current BIG drummer)

I love the first Azonic album; if I was gonna pick 10 albums that totally sum up my aesthetic, it would be in there. The the new one is good, but different.

Long, fairly interesting interview with Andy Hawkins in the latest You Don't Know Mojack (SST discography) episode
