I dont really have any/much classical music,, so forgive me for not really knowing the obvious ones

No worries . . you get to discover all of this for the first time. Enjoy!

I can mirror Robert's admission above about not knowing. I mean, where does one start?
I had a go with Stravinsky a few years ago because of emo boys Rites of Spring. There was another band on SST, Blind Idiot God that referenced the classics, and that's been about it. I'm not confident where to dip my toe in.
By default , given some of the 'rock' that I dig, I must like some of those old boys.
I would seriously like to discover classic 'classical' but ain't got a clue where top start.

My (limited) knowledge of classical music is pretty much entirely down to BBC Radio Three, and just following up on anything I heard and liked. As with any form of music, you aren't going to like all of it, but if you're already interested, you're sure to hear sounds that will just blow you away.

Bach- Great Organ Works sounds ideal for me,, there are so many versions of Complete Organ Works, so I'll start on the small 2-disc Great Organ Works which has lots of enthusiastic fans.

There's a great story about Carl Sagan discussing with NASA what sound recordings should be placed on the Voyager space probe to represent the human race to any alien civilization that might someday find it: NASA suggested some Bach, but Sagan opposed this because "it would seem like bragging."

Watch Carnival of Souls. Great use of extremely creepy organ music, plus a genuinely scary movie. Herk Harvey shows up in my nightmares from time to time.

can't lock the thread yet, nobody mentioned Hermann Nitsch's organ works.
search mutantsounds for "orgelkonzert", also his CD Komposition Fuer Orgel.

hurting, i am so happy you put virgil fox heavy organ up there! love it. and some of the best bits are his between-tune rants.
BACH HAS THE RED BLOOD! HE HAS THE COMMUNION WITH THE PEOPLE! THEY TRY TO PUT THE GREATEST MAN OF ALL TIME UP ON A DUSTY SHELF AND SAY HE CAN'T BE INTERPRETED WELL THEY'RE FULL OF YOU KNOW WHAT AND SO UNTALENTED THAT THEY COULDN'T GET IN THE HOUSE OF MUSIC ANY OTHER WAY!

There are a ton of French organ composers who have written massive, imposing works: Messian, Massenet, and Langlais come to mind initially.

There are these moments where it sounds like he's just SLASHING across the keys on the loudest registration available, out of tempo. It's brutal. Beautiful.

whoa, i had no idea massenet wrote organ music. some others are Tournemire, Widor, DuprE, Vierne, Jehan Alain and DuruflE-- but no one is biggers or scarier than Messiaen.

Also, if you live near any actual churches that have big fuck-off organs, I would suggest attending a service or, if possible, a concert - because no stereo can really recreate the pew-shaking bass and presence of a real, big-ass pipe organ.

Keith Jarrett - Hymns/Spheres (1976)
improvisations recorded on a 18th century pipe organ of the Ottobeuren Abbey, a Benedictine abbey in Germany. microtonal effects acheived through careful movement of the stops.
the CD contains only the calmer sections, you want the 2 LP vinyl. pretty demonic.
the first piece of Messiaen's for organ that I got completely into was La Nativité du Seigneur, it's got the riffs

Expanding my horizons here...I grew up with an organ in the house but until recently my taste has been limited to jazz, rhythm and blues and movie soundtracks.
How is that Popul Vuh album? It's not my "thing" but looks enticing.
